00:00:02 --> 00:00:02 All right.
00:00:02 --> 00:00:03 I just want to welcome
00:00:03 --> 00:00:07 everyone to our AOPT podcast, Hands Off,
00:00:07 --> 00:00:08 Hands On.
00:00:08 --> 00:00:09 And it's my pleasure to have
00:00:10 --> 00:00:12 our conference chair, Derek Clewley,
00:00:12 --> 00:00:13 with me today.
00:00:13 --> 00:00:15 So we can talk about all
00:00:15 --> 00:00:16 things conference and
00:00:16 --> 00:00:17 hopefully give a preview to
00:00:18 --> 00:00:19 our listeners about what
00:00:19 --> 00:00:21 they might be excited to
00:00:21 --> 00:00:25 see in person in Orlando or virtual,
00:00:25 --> 00:00:27 because that is always an option as well.
00:00:27 --> 00:00:28 So thank you, Derek,
00:00:28 --> 00:00:30 for coming and joining us today.
00:00:30 --> 00:00:32 Yeah, thank you for having me.
00:00:32 --> 00:00:32 I'm excited.
00:00:33 --> 00:00:35 Isn't it weird that conferences, well,
00:00:35 --> 00:00:37 I guess I'm recording this
00:00:37 --> 00:00:38 just a little over a month away,
00:00:39 --> 00:00:41 which is absolutely insane
00:00:41 --> 00:00:42 how fast the time is flying,
00:00:42 --> 00:00:43 but always one of my
00:00:43 --> 00:00:44 favorite times of the year
00:00:44 --> 00:00:46 because obviously with the
00:00:46 --> 00:00:48 changes of seasons and things like that,
00:00:48 --> 00:00:49 but it's also conference
00:00:49 --> 00:00:51 time and it's a chance for
00:00:51 --> 00:00:53 us to get to meet and
00:00:54 --> 00:00:56 reconvene and such with everybody.
00:00:56 --> 00:00:57 So thanks for having me on the show.
00:00:57 --> 00:00:58 I'm excited to talk a little
00:00:58 --> 00:00:59 bit about the conference today.
00:01:00 --> 00:01:01 Well, Derek,
00:01:01 --> 00:01:02 you and I usually do this with
00:01:02 --> 00:01:03 other speakers.
00:01:03 --> 00:01:04 So it's like really weird
00:01:04 --> 00:01:05 for us just to be you and I
00:01:05 --> 00:01:07 kind of talking to each other.
00:01:07 --> 00:01:09 So I'm really grateful for it.
00:01:09 --> 00:01:11 So I do want you to go ahead
00:01:11 --> 00:01:12 and tell our listeners
00:01:12 --> 00:01:14 where conference is at this
00:01:14 --> 00:01:16 year and give us a little
00:01:16 --> 00:01:17 bit of a preview and maybe
00:01:17 --> 00:01:18 about what you're excited for.
00:01:19 --> 00:01:19 Yeah.
00:01:19 --> 00:01:21 So conferences in Orlando, you know,
00:01:21 --> 00:01:22 we're back in Orlando.
00:01:22 --> 00:01:24 We were in Orlando in twenty nineteen,
00:01:24 --> 00:01:26 which, you know, believe it or not,
00:01:26 --> 00:01:28 was about six months before
00:01:28 --> 00:01:29 the world changed or four
00:01:29 --> 00:01:30 months before the world
00:01:30 --> 00:01:31 changed with COVID.
00:01:32 --> 00:01:33 So we do get the opportunity
00:01:33 --> 00:01:34 to come back to Orlando.
00:01:35 --> 00:01:36 It's a great conference city,
00:01:36 --> 00:01:37 obviously one of the big.
00:01:37 --> 00:01:38 conference cities.
00:01:38 --> 00:01:40 And we're really excited to
00:01:40 --> 00:01:43 be at the Rosen Shingle Resort.
00:01:43 --> 00:01:46 It's a resort that does sit
00:01:46 --> 00:01:48 kind of independently off-site,
00:01:48 --> 00:01:49 but it is a beautiful spot.
00:01:50 --> 00:01:51 If you get a chance to look at it,
00:01:51 --> 00:01:53 if you go on the website for AOMT,
00:01:53 --> 00:01:54 then you can certainly
00:01:54 --> 00:01:55 explore some of the
00:01:56 --> 00:01:57 the area that the conference
00:01:57 --> 00:01:59 actually is in it's
00:01:59 --> 00:02:00 wonderful I mean it's
00:02:00 --> 00:02:01 amazing and you know and
00:02:01 --> 00:02:03 it's not that it's away
00:02:03 --> 00:02:04 from all the other things
00:02:04 --> 00:02:05 you can certainly make it a
00:02:05 --> 00:02:06 orlando type of a weekend
00:02:06 --> 00:02:07 as well but it's also nice
00:02:07 --> 00:02:08 because it is a little bit
00:02:08 --> 00:02:10 away from everything and so
00:02:11 --> 00:02:12 We're excited to be there.
00:02:13 --> 00:02:15 We've been planning this for
00:02:15 --> 00:02:16 a little while because it
00:02:16 --> 00:02:20 was going to be our iFOMP post-city.
00:02:20 --> 00:02:22 And so when you think about
00:02:22 --> 00:02:24 planning an iFOMP conference,
00:02:25 --> 00:02:28 you really want to showcase the
00:02:28 --> 00:02:30 to the world what you're going to bring.
00:02:30 --> 00:02:31 And unfortunately,
00:02:31 --> 00:02:33 we didn't get the iFOMPT bid,
00:02:34 --> 00:02:35 but that means that we were
00:02:35 --> 00:02:37 able to still have our AOMT
00:02:37 --> 00:02:39 conference at this facility,
00:02:39 --> 00:02:42 which is really a world-class facility,
00:02:42 --> 00:02:42 because that's really what
00:02:42 --> 00:02:43 we were trying to do is
00:02:44 --> 00:02:45 create that kind of an
00:02:45 --> 00:02:47 experience and an international platform.
00:02:47 --> 00:02:48 But we're going to do it
00:02:48 --> 00:02:51 here with our US folks and
00:02:51 --> 00:02:53 make it a big splash.
00:02:53 --> 00:02:54 So I think that you asked,
00:02:54 --> 00:02:55 what am I excited about?
00:02:55 --> 00:02:55 I mean, obviously,
00:02:55 --> 00:02:57 I'm excited about the location.
00:02:57 --> 00:02:58 I think that's one of the
00:02:58 --> 00:03:00 big things our conference
00:03:00 --> 00:03:01 attendees look for is just
00:03:01 --> 00:03:03 a way to sort of have their
00:03:04 --> 00:03:06 nerdcation away from things
00:03:06 --> 00:03:08 and sort of make sure that
00:03:08 --> 00:03:09 it's in a spot that is fun and nice.
00:03:10 --> 00:03:11 But I'm also excited because
00:03:12 --> 00:03:13 I think this year we have a
00:03:13 --> 00:03:16 really amazing lineup as well.
00:03:16 --> 00:03:16 And I know that you'll
00:03:16 --> 00:03:17 probably ask me some
00:03:17 --> 00:03:18 questions about that lineup,
00:03:19 --> 00:03:19 but I'm really excited
00:03:19 --> 00:03:21 about who we're bringing in, you know,
00:03:21 --> 00:03:22 two international speakers,
00:03:22 --> 00:03:24 some interprofessional
00:03:24 --> 00:03:26 presenters and so on.
00:03:26 --> 00:03:27 And so I think this
00:03:27 --> 00:03:28 conference has the
00:03:28 --> 00:03:30 opportunity and the chance to be one that,
00:03:30 --> 00:03:30 you know,
00:03:30 --> 00:03:32 people will talk about for a long time.
00:03:33 --> 00:03:35 So, you know, when I look at the website,
00:03:35 --> 00:03:35 right,
00:03:36 --> 00:03:37 so we have it looks like some
00:03:37 --> 00:03:38 similar structures.
00:03:38 --> 00:03:40 So those who've been to conference before
00:03:40 --> 00:03:41 hopefully know that we do a
00:03:41 --> 00:03:43 lot of our pre-conferences
00:03:44 --> 00:03:46 early on Wednesday and some on Thursday.
00:03:46 --> 00:03:46 Is there anything you want
00:03:46 --> 00:03:47 to highlight about those
00:03:47 --> 00:03:49 pre-conferences or anything
00:03:49 --> 00:03:50 that our listeners should
00:03:51 --> 00:03:52 know about on those pre-conference ideas?
00:03:53 --> 00:03:53 Yeah, I mean,
00:03:54 --> 00:03:55 the pre-cons are obviously a
00:03:55 --> 00:03:56 great chance to get a
00:03:57 --> 00:03:58 little bit more of your
00:03:58 --> 00:03:59 typical continuing
00:03:59 --> 00:04:02 education type education training.
00:04:03 --> 00:04:05 So we do have a few pre-cons.
00:04:05 --> 00:04:05 You know,
00:04:05 --> 00:04:07 Jeremy Lewis is going to be doing
00:04:07 --> 00:04:08 some of his pre-con work,
00:04:08 --> 00:04:11 which is one of our keynote presenters.
00:04:11 --> 00:04:12 And if you know anything
00:04:12 --> 00:04:14 about Jeremy Lewis, or I should say,
00:04:14 --> 00:04:15 if you know anything about the shoulder,
00:04:15 --> 00:04:16 you probably have
00:04:16 --> 00:04:18 encountered Jeremy Lewis's shoulder.
00:04:18 --> 00:04:21 He certainly is one of, you know,
00:04:21 --> 00:04:22 the heavy hitters in the
00:04:22 --> 00:04:24 area of shoulder rehab.
00:04:24 --> 00:04:25 So I think, you know,
00:04:25 --> 00:04:26 obviously that's a super
00:04:26 --> 00:04:31 exciting time to look ahead at.
00:04:31 --> 00:04:32 You know,
00:04:32 --> 00:04:33 we've got all kinds of different
00:04:34 --> 00:04:35 pre-con activity.
00:04:35 --> 00:04:35 You know,
00:04:35 --> 00:04:38 we have things that are very hands-on,
00:04:38 --> 00:04:38 which I think is one of the
00:04:38 --> 00:04:41 things that makes pre-con
00:04:41 --> 00:04:43 even better is when you get a
00:04:45 --> 00:04:46 therapists by and large.
00:04:46 --> 00:04:48 And so we want to put our hands on folks.
00:04:48 --> 00:04:50 And so we do have conference
00:04:50 --> 00:04:51 pre-con planning that
00:04:51 --> 00:04:53 actually is very specific
00:04:53 --> 00:04:55 to manual manipulative therapy.
00:04:55 --> 00:04:57 And so we've got some big
00:04:58 --> 00:05:00 con ed providers type
00:05:00 --> 00:05:00 things that are going to be
00:05:00 --> 00:05:02 presenting in those areas.
00:05:02 --> 00:05:03 But we also have pre-con
00:05:03 --> 00:05:04 that is also looking at
00:05:05 --> 00:05:07 you know sort of other ways
00:05:07 --> 00:05:08 that when we think about
00:05:09 --> 00:05:10 manual therapy like even
00:05:10 --> 00:05:11 just you know motivational
00:05:11 --> 00:05:12 interviewing and other
00:05:12 --> 00:05:14 sorts of skill sets and
00:05:14 --> 00:05:15 such that comes into play
00:05:15 --> 00:05:18 with the pre-cons and then
00:05:18 --> 00:05:19 yeah like you said the
00:05:19 --> 00:05:21 structure typically is is
00:05:21 --> 00:05:22 by and large very similar
00:05:22 --> 00:05:23 to what we have done in the
00:05:23 --> 00:05:25 past it seems to work
00:05:25 --> 00:05:27 really well we want to give our uh
00:05:28 --> 00:05:30 you know, those early days,
00:05:30 --> 00:05:35 those main stage presentations and such,
00:05:35 --> 00:05:36 and everybody gets kind of
00:05:36 --> 00:05:37 excited around those things.
00:05:37 --> 00:05:39 And then during the weekend,
00:05:39 --> 00:05:40 we go into our, you know,
00:05:40 --> 00:05:41 more of our breakout
00:05:41 --> 00:05:43 sessions where attendees
00:05:43 --> 00:05:45 can sort of a la carte,
00:05:45 --> 00:05:46 pick out what they want to
00:05:47 --> 00:05:48 explore in terms of their
00:05:48 --> 00:05:50 professional navigation and such.
00:05:51 --> 00:05:52 Whatever it is that I think
00:05:52 --> 00:05:53 that you are interested in,
00:05:54 --> 00:05:54 I think you're definitely
00:05:54 --> 00:05:58 going to find it within the weekend.
00:05:58 --> 00:05:59 And if you want to make an
00:05:59 --> 00:06:01 extended weekend, by all means,
00:06:01 --> 00:06:02 the pre-con courses will
00:06:03 --> 00:06:04 establish some of that activity.
00:06:05 --> 00:06:05 Awesome.
00:06:06 --> 00:06:07 And then, you know,
00:06:07 --> 00:06:08 tell us a little bit more
00:06:08 --> 00:06:10 about our traditional Friday.
00:06:10 --> 00:06:11 So Fridays,
00:06:11 --> 00:06:12 we typically have our keynotes
00:06:12 --> 00:06:14 on the main stage and a
00:06:14 --> 00:06:16 little bit and maybe to Saturday.
00:06:16 --> 00:06:17 So I would love to know who
00:06:17 --> 00:06:18 are some of the lineup.
00:06:18 --> 00:06:19 I know you spoke to a little
00:06:19 --> 00:06:21 bit about the distinguished, excuse me,
00:06:21 --> 00:06:23 some of the international speakers,
00:06:24 --> 00:06:25 but even distinguished
00:06:25 --> 00:06:26 speakers that we have.
00:06:26 --> 00:06:27 So can you give us a little
00:06:27 --> 00:06:29 bit of more about that lineup?
00:06:29 --> 00:06:31 Yeah, so we're really excited.
00:06:31 --> 00:06:31 You know,
00:06:31 --> 00:06:32 I talked a little bit earlier
00:06:32 --> 00:06:34 about how we were looking to
00:06:34 --> 00:06:35 potentially bringing in an
00:06:35 --> 00:06:36 eye pump this year.
00:06:36 --> 00:06:37 We actually have a bit of an
00:06:37 --> 00:06:41 international flavor with regards to our
00:06:42 --> 00:06:43 you know, keynote presenters.
00:06:45 --> 00:06:46 Jeremy Lewis, who I already mentioned,
00:06:47 --> 00:06:48 he is somebody I think that
00:06:48 --> 00:06:49 a lot of people are going
00:06:49 --> 00:06:51 to really enjoy hearing from.
00:06:51 --> 00:06:52 I've had a chance to talk
00:06:52 --> 00:06:54 with him in the past and, you know,
00:06:54 --> 00:06:56 he's a really big supporter
00:06:56 --> 00:06:57 of manual therapy.
00:06:57 --> 00:06:59 He's a big supporter of kind
00:06:59 --> 00:07:01 of what that can do for the
00:07:01 --> 00:07:02 shoulder and such.
00:07:02 --> 00:07:03 And if you look at his
00:07:03 --> 00:07:05 training and sort of his legacy,
00:07:05 --> 00:07:06 which got him to where he
00:07:06 --> 00:07:07 is at now in terms of
00:07:07 --> 00:07:08 shoulder research and
00:07:08 --> 00:07:09 you'll see a lot of the
00:07:09 --> 00:07:10 threads that a lot of
00:07:11 --> 00:07:12 clinicians will see
00:07:12 --> 00:07:13 familiar in terms of
00:07:13 --> 00:07:15 training and including, you know,
00:07:15 --> 00:07:17 training under manual therapists,
00:07:17 --> 00:07:20 including, you know, some of the, the,
00:07:20 --> 00:07:23 the big names and in manual therapy.
00:07:23 --> 00:07:23 And I,
00:07:23 --> 00:07:25 so I think a lot of people are going
00:07:25 --> 00:07:26 to really enjoy seeing him
00:07:26 --> 00:07:27 on the main stage.
00:07:28 --> 00:07:28 You know, we've got,
00:07:29 --> 00:07:30 Sarah Piva,
00:07:30 --> 00:07:33 who is at the University of Pittsburgh.
00:07:34 --> 00:07:36 She's actually, I was talking to her,
00:07:36 --> 00:07:38 it was funny because she
00:07:38 --> 00:07:40 has gone through fellowship training.
00:07:40 --> 00:07:42 And when we told her that
00:07:42 --> 00:07:43 you can still be a fellow,
00:07:43 --> 00:07:44 so she was super excited
00:07:45 --> 00:07:47 that she actually can
00:07:47 --> 00:07:48 reestablish some of those
00:07:49 --> 00:07:50 connections, but you know,
00:07:51 --> 00:07:52 a lot of her work, uh,
00:07:52 --> 00:07:54 most recently has been in
00:07:54 --> 00:07:55 the area of me away, uh, and,
00:07:56 --> 00:07:58 and pain management and
00:07:58 --> 00:08:00 research in that area, in that topic,
00:08:00 --> 00:08:00 but she's also
00:08:01 --> 00:08:03 transitioning a little bit with, um,
00:08:03 --> 00:08:04 going back into researching
00:08:04 --> 00:08:05 some of the lumbar spine.
00:08:05 --> 00:08:06 So I think that she's going
00:08:06 --> 00:08:07 to integrate some of that.
00:08:08 --> 00:08:08 Um,
00:08:08 --> 00:08:10 certainly I think looking at how manual
00:08:10 --> 00:08:11 therapy can kind of
00:08:11 --> 00:08:13 interplay into that as part of her,
00:08:13 --> 00:08:14 her work for sure.
00:08:15 --> 00:08:18 And then we have Nathan Hutting, who is,
00:08:18 --> 00:08:18 you know,
00:08:19 --> 00:08:22 a very large name in manual
00:08:22 --> 00:08:24 therapy across the globe, really.
00:08:24 --> 00:08:24 I mean,
00:08:24 --> 00:08:27 he is a very involved and engaged
00:08:28 --> 00:08:30 individual with IPOMT.
00:08:31 --> 00:08:34 He has been to AOMT before to present.
00:08:35 --> 00:08:36 And he is always,
00:08:37 --> 00:08:39 always well-liked and
00:08:39 --> 00:08:40 well-received in the things
00:08:40 --> 00:08:42 that he has been able to offer.
00:08:42 --> 00:08:44 And to have him on the main
00:08:44 --> 00:08:45 stage is going to be a lot of fun.
00:08:45 --> 00:08:49 I think his approach and his
00:08:49 --> 00:08:50 ability to present is
00:08:50 --> 00:08:52 pretty fascinating in a
00:08:52 --> 00:08:54 very engaging sort of a way.
00:08:54 --> 00:08:56 And he'll present mostly on
00:08:56 --> 00:08:57 neck-related issues as that
00:08:57 --> 00:08:59 is part of his expertise,
00:08:59 --> 00:08:59 I would imagine.
00:09:00 --> 00:09:01 And then I think what we're
00:09:01 --> 00:09:03 really excited about, you know,
00:09:03 --> 00:09:05 we're getting Roger Chow to come here.
00:09:05 --> 00:09:07 Roger was going to come last year.
00:09:07 --> 00:09:07 And fortunately,
00:09:08 --> 00:09:09 somebody as big as Roger Chow,
00:09:09 --> 00:09:10 there's something that
00:09:10 --> 00:09:11 comes up sometimes.
00:09:11 --> 00:09:12 And so we didn't get to have
00:09:12 --> 00:09:13 him here last year,
00:09:13 --> 00:09:15 but we get him this year.
00:09:15 --> 00:09:17 And if you know anything about,
00:09:17 --> 00:09:19 especially in the early two
00:09:19 --> 00:09:21 thousands about how, you know,
00:09:22 --> 00:09:22 some of our biggest
00:09:22 --> 00:09:24 supporters for physical
00:09:24 --> 00:09:25 therapy and conservative
00:09:25 --> 00:09:26 management for a lot of the
00:09:27 --> 00:09:28 things that we see, um,
00:09:28 --> 00:09:30 A lot of that goes back to
00:09:30 --> 00:09:31 the work that Roger Chow
00:09:31 --> 00:09:33 and his colleagues have done.
00:09:33 --> 00:09:35 And so he's a medical physician,
00:09:36 --> 00:09:38 but a big supporter of conservative care,
00:09:38 --> 00:09:39 not just physical therapy,
00:09:39 --> 00:09:40 but certainly physical
00:09:40 --> 00:09:41 therapy as part of that,
00:09:42 --> 00:09:43 especially when it comes to
00:09:43 --> 00:09:45 chronic and persistent low back pain.
00:09:46 --> 00:09:49 Roger Chow is fantastic and phenomenal.
00:09:49 --> 00:09:50 I've actually had a chance
00:09:50 --> 00:09:51 to listen to him present.
00:09:52 --> 00:09:54 Oh, gosh, it was probably...
00:09:55 --> 00:09:56 It's over ten years ago now,
00:09:56 --> 00:09:57 probably twelve years ago.
00:09:58 --> 00:09:59 He presented at a conference
00:09:59 --> 00:10:03 that my former organization
00:10:03 --> 00:10:05 brought in and he is amazing.
00:10:06 --> 00:10:08 He is so fun to listen to, very engaging,
00:10:08 --> 00:10:09 very powerful.
00:10:09 --> 00:10:10 And then when you look at
00:10:10 --> 00:10:11 the amount of work and the
00:10:11 --> 00:10:12 amount of activity that he
00:10:12 --> 00:10:14 has done in the area of
00:10:14 --> 00:10:16 conservative management for low back pain,
00:10:17 --> 00:10:18 it's impressive and it's
00:10:18 --> 00:10:20 impressive that we're going to have him
00:10:20 --> 00:10:21 On our main stage is one of
00:10:21 --> 00:10:23 our distinguished lecturers.
00:10:24 --> 00:10:25 And then what's really fun, I think,
00:10:25 --> 00:10:27 about all of that is
00:10:27 --> 00:10:28 probably the best part is the panel stuff,
00:10:28 --> 00:10:29 right?
00:10:29 --> 00:10:30 Where we bring them all in
00:10:30 --> 00:10:31 together and we just have a
00:10:31 --> 00:10:32 lot of fun with folks.
00:10:32 --> 00:10:33 And I think the attendees
00:10:33 --> 00:10:34 really like that because
00:10:34 --> 00:10:36 then it makes people a
00:10:36 --> 00:10:38 little bit more... They can
00:10:38 --> 00:10:39 connect with them a little
00:10:40 --> 00:10:41 bit better than just seeing
00:10:41 --> 00:10:43 some of the things that they're doing.
00:10:43 --> 00:10:43 They seem...
00:10:43 --> 00:10:46 a lot more human, which they all are.
00:10:47 --> 00:10:48 And I think that's part of
00:10:48 --> 00:10:49 the fun is at the end of that,
00:10:49 --> 00:10:52 we get to hang out with those folks.
00:10:52 --> 00:10:53 That is awesome.
00:10:53 --> 00:10:54 Well,
00:10:54 --> 00:10:56 it sounds like a full lineup that our
00:10:56 --> 00:10:58 attendees will benefit from
00:10:58 --> 00:11:00 hearing top-notch people,
00:11:00 --> 00:11:01 both in orthopedic and
00:11:02 --> 00:11:03 orthopedic manual therapy,
00:11:03 --> 00:11:05 which I think is, you know,
00:11:05 --> 00:11:06 that's such the nice
00:11:06 --> 00:11:08 platform that AOMT provides
00:11:08 --> 00:11:09 is really the best of both
00:11:10 --> 00:11:13 orthopedic and orthopedic manual therapy,
00:11:13 --> 00:11:15 because again, that's our investment.
00:11:15 --> 00:11:17 It's investment that the
00:11:17 --> 00:11:18 organization puts into
00:11:18 --> 00:11:19 conference to make sure
00:11:19 --> 00:11:20 that we really do have a
00:11:20 --> 00:11:22 great lineup of speakers to
00:11:22 --> 00:11:24 hopefully keep our audience
00:11:24 --> 00:11:25 going for a full year until
00:11:25 --> 00:11:26 the next year when we get
00:11:26 --> 00:11:28 to do it all over again.
00:11:28 --> 00:11:29 You know what?
00:11:29 --> 00:11:30 I think that you hit a
00:11:30 --> 00:11:31 little bit of the nail on the head.
00:11:31 --> 00:11:32 I struggle to think about
00:11:33 --> 00:11:35 and maybe this is a little
00:11:35 --> 00:11:37 bit controversial in some respects,
00:11:37 --> 00:11:38 but I struggled to think
00:11:38 --> 00:11:40 about like a conference out
00:11:40 --> 00:11:43 there that actually when
00:11:43 --> 00:11:44 obviously we say manual therapy.
00:11:44 --> 00:11:45 And so we think about, you know,
00:11:45 --> 00:11:46 the hands on, you know,
00:11:46 --> 00:11:48 in this podcast is hands on
00:11:48 --> 00:11:49 and hands off too.
00:11:49 --> 00:11:50 And a lot of the things that
00:11:50 --> 00:11:50 we do is hands off.
00:11:51 --> 00:11:52 But if you're an orthopedic
00:11:52 --> 00:11:54 physical therapist, even if you're not,
00:11:54 --> 00:11:54 you know,
00:11:55 --> 00:11:56 certified or have gone through
00:11:56 --> 00:11:57 extensive training in
00:11:57 --> 00:11:59 manual therapy or gun
00:11:59 --> 00:12:00 fellowship and those kinds of things,
00:12:01 --> 00:12:02 Maybe that's intimidating to
00:12:02 --> 00:12:04 come to a conference like AOMT,
00:12:05 --> 00:12:06 but honestly,
00:12:06 --> 00:12:08 there is not a lot of
00:12:08 --> 00:12:09 conferences out there that
00:12:09 --> 00:12:10 I don't think they could
00:12:10 --> 00:12:11 actually compete with in
00:12:11 --> 00:12:13 regards to just very specific,
00:12:13 --> 00:12:16 specialized orthopedic management,
00:12:16 --> 00:12:18 whether that's manual
00:12:18 --> 00:12:19 therapy or not manual therapy.
00:12:19 --> 00:12:20 If you look at our breakout
00:12:20 --> 00:12:22 sessions across the board,
00:12:23 --> 00:12:24 There are many opportunities
00:12:24 --> 00:12:25 that if you don't have
00:12:25 --> 00:12:26 manual therapy experience,
00:12:26 --> 00:12:27 or maybe that isn't what
00:12:27 --> 00:12:29 you are most passionate about,
00:12:29 --> 00:12:32 you will find activity in
00:12:32 --> 00:12:35 there that is highly orthopedic related.
00:12:36 --> 00:12:37 And our keynotes, you know,
00:12:37 --> 00:12:39 obviously are going to, you know,
00:12:39 --> 00:12:40 bring in components of how
00:12:40 --> 00:12:41 manual therapy works.
00:12:41 --> 00:12:43 But I think one of the
00:12:43 --> 00:12:45 misnomers sometimes is that, oh gosh,
00:12:45 --> 00:12:45 it's manual therapy,
00:12:46 --> 00:12:47 but really it's orthopedic
00:12:47 --> 00:12:48 manual therapy.
00:12:48 --> 00:12:49 orthopedic management,
00:12:50 --> 00:12:51 and obviously manual
00:12:51 --> 00:12:52 therapy being a component of that.
00:12:52 --> 00:12:53 But honestly,
00:12:54 --> 00:12:55 I'd struggle to find another
00:12:55 --> 00:12:56 conference that could even
00:12:56 --> 00:12:57 come anywhere close to
00:12:57 --> 00:12:59 competing with the amount
00:12:59 --> 00:13:01 of orthopedic content that
00:13:01 --> 00:13:03 we can provide and develop
00:13:03 --> 00:13:05 clinicians with.
00:13:05 --> 00:13:07 Well, and I was looking at the lineup,
00:13:07 --> 00:13:08 Derek,
00:13:08 --> 00:13:10 who we have in the lineup in terms
00:13:10 --> 00:13:11 of even those breakout
00:13:11 --> 00:13:12 sessions like you were talking about.
00:13:13 --> 00:13:15 what a rich group that are
00:13:15 --> 00:13:16 doing these breakout
00:13:16 --> 00:13:17 sessions that you're not
00:13:17 --> 00:13:18 only going to learn a ton
00:13:18 --> 00:13:19 from the keynotes,
00:13:19 --> 00:13:20 but even looking at some of
00:13:20 --> 00:13:22 the key topic areas that
00:13:22 --> 00:13:23 you have lined up and what
00:13:23 --> 00:13:24 a great job the conference
00:13:24 --> 00:13:26 committee and yourself has
00:13:26 --> 00:13:27 done with this lineup this year.
00:13:27 --> 00:13:28 But, you know,
00:13:28 --> 00:13:29 a huge variety of both
00:13:30 --> 00:13:31 in-person lecture as well
00:13:31 --> 00:13:33 as hands-on sessions that I
00:13:33 --> 00:13:34 think our attendees will
00:13:34 --> 00:13:35 really benefit from.
00:13:36 --> 00:13:37 You know,
00:13:37 --> 00:13:38 and I'd love to hear a little bit
00:13:38 --> 00:13:40 about the master clinician
00:13:40 --> 00:13:41 session that you might have
00:13:41 --> 00:13:42 lined up this year,
00:13:42 --> 00:13:43 because every year it's a
00:13:44 --> 00:13:45 highly attended event and
00:13:46 --> 00:13:47 people tend to love it.
00:13:47 --> 00:13:48 So tell us what's your plan this year?
00:13:49 --> 00:13:50 Who do you, who did you ask?
00:13:51 --> 00:13:51 Yes.
00:13:51 --> 00:13:53 So we actually have Earl Petman coming in.
00:13:54 --> 00:13:56 And Earl, actually,
00:13:56 --> 00:13:57 I've got a little bit of a
00:13:57 --> 00:13:59 personal anecdote with Earl.
00:14:00 --> 00:14:02 When I graduated from PT
00:14:02 --> 00:14:03 school and started as a
00:14:03 --> 00:14:06 clinician some twenty plus years ago,
00:14:07 --> 00:14:10 I went to my very first con ed course.
00:14:10 --> 00:14:11 So I started work on a
00:14:11 --> 00:14:14 Monday and then they said, oh, by the way,
00:14:14 --> 00:14:15 there's a con ed course
00:14:15 --> 00:14:16 that you can attend this
00:14:16 --> 00:14:18 weekend with the organization I was in.
00:14:18 --> 00:14:20 And it's a manual therapy course.
00:14:20 --> 00:14:21 And it would be good for you
00:14:21 --> 00:14:23 to do because you're just starting out,
00:14:23 --> 00:14:23 yada, yada, yada.
00:14:23 --> 00:14:25 I'm like, oh, please, I'm hungry,
00:14:25 --> 00:14:26 feed me type thing.
00:14:26 --> 00:14:30 And so I went to this Con Ed
00:14:30 --> 00:14:32 course and it was Earl
00:14:32 --> 00:14:33 Petman as the instructor.
00:14:34 --> 00:14:35 And so my very first...
00:14:36 --> 00:14:37 introduction into
00:14:37 --> 00:14:39 post-professional education
00:14:39 --> 00:14:40 was Earl Petman.
00:14:40 --> 00:14:41 So to have him coming in
00:14:42 --> 00:14:43 full circle is kind of a big deal.
00:14:43 --> 00:14:44 Now,
00:14:44 --> 00:14:45 I don't know if Earl actually
00:14:45 --> 00:14:46 remembers me or not.
00:14:46 --> 00:14:47 I'm sure that he doesn't.
00:14:48 --> 00:14:48 And actually,
00:14:48 --> 00:14:49 I took a few other courses
00:14:49 --> 00:14:51 from him and really kind of
00:14:51 --> 00:14:53 helped to spur my interest
00:14:53 --> 00:14:55 in manual therapy.
00:14:55 --> 00:14:56 I think I really became
00:14:56 --> 00:14:57 passionate and I really
00:14:57 --> 00:14:59 wanted to become focused within that.
00:14:59 --> 00:15:00 And I think that he got me
00:15:01 --> 00:15:01 excited about that,
00:15:01 --> 00:15:03 just understanding the
00:15:03 --> 00:15:05 you know his approaches and
00:15:05 --> 00:15:07 his passions and excitement
00:15:07 --> 00:15:09 about manual therapy was
00:15:09 --> 00:15:10 infectious and it was
00:15:10 --> 00:15:12 infectious for all of us
00:15:12 --> 00:15:13 that were involved and and
00:15:13 --> 00:15:14 I mean honestly when I look
00:15:14 --> 00:15:15 back at my journey I think
00:15:15 --> 00:15:17 that that was really part
00:15:17 --> 00:15:19 of the biggest stimulation to that
00:15:20 --> 00:15:24 So Earl has been around for a while.
00:15:24 --> 00:15:26 So when we talk about master
00:15:26 --> 00:15:27 clinicians and really talk
00:15:27 --> 00:15:28 about clinicians, I mean,
00:15:28 --> 00:15:29 he's truly that.
00:15:30 --> 00:15:32 He's engaged in clinical
00:15:32 --> 00:15:34 practice for so many years.
00:15:34 --> 00:15:35 I don't know how many years it is,
00:15:36 --> 00:15:38 but it's more than most
00:15:38 --> 00:15:42 people are alive and practicing.
00:15:42 --> 00:15:45 And so he brings a wealth of
00:15:45 --> 00:15:46 information and knowledge.
00:15:47 --> 00:15:48 activity to it.
00:15:48 --> 00:15:49 And so with those master
00:15:49 --> 00:15:50 clinician sessions,
00:15:50 --> 00:15:52 those are hands-on sessions, right?
00:15:52 --> 00:15:53 So those are where people
00:15:53 --> 00:15:54 are getting an opportunity
00:15:54 --> 00:15:57 and a chance to get their hands dirty,
00:15:57 --> 00:15:58 if you will.
00:15:58 --> 00:16:00 I believe, and don't hold me to this,
00:16:00 --> 00:16:01 but I'm pretty sure that
00:16:01 --> 00:16:02 he's going to be presenting
00:16:02 --> 00:16:06 on cervical thoracic type disorders.
00:16:06 --> 00:16:07 And so,
00:16:08 --> 00:16:09 which I think is always nice to see,
00:16:10 --> 00:16:11 we spend a lot of time on
00:16:11 --> 00:16:13 the lumbar spine and low back.
00:16:13 --> 00:16:13 I love seeing,
00:16:13 --> 00:16:15 and I'm a little bit more in
00:16:15 --> 00:16:16 connected with the neck and
00:16:16 --> 00:16:17 so I love seeing that we're
00:16:17 --> 00:16:19 getting a bit of neck
00:16:19 --> 00:16:20 attention in this
00:16:20 --> 00:16:22 conference but so I think
00:16:22 --> 00:16:23 that he'll be presenting on
00:16:23 --> 00:16:24 some hands-on techniques
00:16:24 --> 00:16:25 with that yeah he asked us
00:16:25 --> 00:16:26 he asked us like what do
00:16:26 --> 00:16:27 you want me to do and we
00:16:27 --> 00:16:28 said well we do whatever
00:16:28 --> 00:16:29 you want to do but make it
00:16:29 --> 00:16:32 hands-on and and make it um
00:16:32 --> 00:16:34 something that is uh
00:16:34 --> 00:16:35 that he's excited about.
00:16:35 --> 00:16:37 So I think that a lot of
00:16:37 --> 00:16:38 folks will get a chance to
00:16:38 --> 00:16:41 work and see things maybe a
00:16:41 --> 00:16:41 little bit differently,
00:16:41 --> 00:16:42 maybe different
00:16:42 --> 00:16:44 perspectives and approaches
00:16:44 --> 00:16:47 to hands-on management of neck pain.
00:16:47 --> 00:16:49 Well, and I was looking at your lineup,
00:16:49 --> 00:16:51 even with that as an
00:16:51 --> 00:16:53 incredible master clinician opportunity,
00:16:54 --> 00:16:56 You have Adrian Lau, Louis Pentagura,
00:16:56 --> 00:16:59 you have Mark Shepard,
00:16:59 --> 00:17:00 you have Amy McDevitt,
00:17:00 --> 00:17:01 you have Paul Minkin.
00:17:01 --> 00:17:04 I mean, you guys have a host of people,
00:17:04 --> 00:17:06 Carol Courtney, Catherine Palta.
00:17:06 --> 00:17:08 I mean, you have just a list.
00:17:08 --> 00:17:10 of really incredible people
00:17:10 --> 00:17:12 throughout this breakout stuff.
00:17:12 --> 00:17:14 So again, I guess just to say,
00:17:14 --> 00:17:15 I don't think there's
00:17:15 --> 00:17:17 anything you wouldn't walk away from.
00:17:17 --> 00:17:19 Chad Cook's listed in this group.
00:17:19 --> 00:17:21 It's an incredible lineup.
00:17:21 --> 00:17:22 So well done for that.
00:17:22 --> 00:17:22 Well done.
00:17:23 --> 00:17:24 I want to transition and
00:17:24 --> 00:17:25 talk a little bit about
00:17:25 --> 00:17:27 networking because I don't
00:17:27 --> 00:17:28 think there's any question
00:17:29 --> 00:17:29 that they couldn't come to
00:17:29 --> 00:17:31 conference and learn a ton.
00:17:31 --> 00:17:33 But I do think some newbies
00:17:33 --> 00:17:34 might be coming to
00:17:34 --> 00:17:34 conference for the first
00:17:34 --> 00:17:35 time and would love to know
00:17:35 --> 00:17:37 a little bit about maybe some of those
00:17:37 --> 00:17:47 networking opportunities.
00:17:47 --> 00:17:47 All right.
00:17:47 --> 00:17:48 So, Derek,
00:17:48 --> 00:17:49 I want to hear more about the
00:17:49 --> 00:17:51 networking opportunities at our AOMTs,
00:17:51 --> 00:17:52 especially for our new listeners,
00:17:53 --> 00:17:54 letting them know about
00:17:54 --> 00:17:55 what kind of activities
00:17:55 --> 00:17:56 that we have planned for
00:17:56 --> 00:17:57 them to meet others and
00:17:58 --> 00:18:00 socialize and just, again,
00:18:00 --> 00:18:01 I always say sometimes it's
00:18:01 --> 00:18:02 between the sessions or
00:18:02 --> 00:18:03 after the sessions that
00:18:03 --> 00:18:04 some of the great learning
00:18:04 --> 00:18:05 actually also occurs.
00:18:06 --> 00:18:07 No, one hundred percent.
00:18:07 --> 00:18:07 Absolutely.
00:18:08 --> 00:18:08 I want to go back, though,
00:18:09 --> 00:18:10 and I'm going to answer that question,
00:18:10 --> 00:18:11 but I want to also go back.
00:18:11 --> 00:18:12 And, you know,
00:18:12 --> 00:18:13 you mentioned all these big
00:18:13 --> 00:18:14 names that are going to be presenting.
00:18:14 --> 00:18:16 I think what's also exciting
00:18:16 --> 00:18:17 and speaking of like you
00:18:17 --> 00:18:18 just because you mentioned
00:18:18 --> 00:18:20 the new folks coming in,
00:18:21 --> 00:18:23 what I'm also excited about is the.
00:18:24 --> 00:18:26 new presenters coming in and
00:18:27 --> 00:18:29 presenting education sessions.
00:18:29 --> 00:18:31 Nothing excites me more than to see,
00:18:31 --> 00:18:32 you know,
00:18:32 --> 00:18:33 some new energy and some new
00:18:33 --> 00:18:35 blood coming into the,
00:18:35 --> 00:18:36 especially like the
00:18:36 --> 00:18:37 breakout sessions or what
00:18:37 --> 00:18:38 other types of sessions.
00:18:38 --> 00:18:39 And honestly,
00:18:39 --> 00:18:41 like as the conference committee,
00:18:41 --> 00:18:42 we're reviewing these
00:18:42 --> 00:18:43 proposals and they are,
00:18:43 --> 00:18:45 they are some really strong,
00:18:45 --> 00:18:46 really good proposals.
00:18:46 --> 00:18:47 So I think, you know,
00:18:47 --> 00:18:48 we have a really nice
00:18:48 --> 00:18:51 diversity of experienced speakers,
00:18:51 --> 00:18:53 presenters seasoned
00:18:53 --> 00:18:55 presenters who really know
00:18:55 --> 00:18:57 kind of what to do and
00:18:57 --> 00:18:59 present then we also have
00:18:59 --> 00:19:01 this other part that is
00:19:01 --> 00:19:03 this new crop new blood
00:19:03 --> 00:19:05 that is also I think going
00:19:05 --> 00:19:07 to do a really awesome job
00:19:07 --> 00:19:09 of presenting you know
00:19:09 --> 00:19:10 information that maybe is a
00:19:10 --> 00:19:11 little bit different maybe
00:19:11 --> 00:19:12 a little bit new and so if
00:19:12 --> 00:19:13 you've been to conferences
00:19:13 --> 00:19:14 before and you see some of
00:19:14 --> 00:19:15 those names just you know
00:19:15 --> 00:19:17 know that there's also some
00:19:17 --> 00:19:18 some new ingredients in
00:19:18 --> 00:19:19 this conference that I
00:19:19 --> 00:19:21 think are going to make um
00:19:21 --> 00:19:23 the cake rise a little differently.
00:19:24 --> 00:19:25 So I love that you said that
00:19:25 --> 00:19:27 because I see some of these
00:19:27 --> 00:19:27 names and I'm like,
00:19:27 --> 00:19:29 I looked at their bios
00:19:29 --> 00:19:30 because you can look on the website.
00:19:31 --> 00:19:33 Definitely some up and coming and very,
00:19:33 --> 00:19:35 very strong clinician type.
00:19:35 --> 00:19:37 So we're super excited to meet them, too.
00:19:37 --> 00:19:37 That's going to be great.
00:19:37 --> 00:19:38 Great point.
00:19:38 --> 00:19:38 Thank you.
00:19:39 --> 00:19:40 So to answer your question, though,
00:19:40 --> 00:19:41 with regards to the
00:19:41 --> 00:19:43 networking opportunities, you're right.
00:19:43 --> 00:19:45 I mean, between the sessions when,
00:19:45 --> 00:19:46 you know,
00:19:46 --> 00:19:47 the session ends and the
00:19:47 --> 00:19:48 hallways are busy,
00:19:48 --> 00:19:52 you know, so much professional development,
00:19:52 --> 00:19:53 I think occurs there that
00:19:53 --> 00:19:54 we don't even really give it,
00:19:54 --> 00:19:55 we don't even know how to measure, right?
00:19:55 --> 00:19:56 We don't even know how to
00:19:56 --> 00:19:58 unpack all of that, you know, where,
00:19:58 --> 00:20:00 you know, people get to meet people and,
00:20:00 --> 00:20:00 you know,
00:20:00 --> 00:20:01 maybe their careers go into
00:20:02 --> 00:20:03 different trajectories and
00:20:03 --> 00:20:03 such because of,
00:20:04 --> 00:20:05 the people that they are
00:20:05 --> 00:20:06 engaging with or they
00:20:06 --> 00:20:07 become interested in
00:20:07 --> 00:20:08 something that maybe they
00:20:08 --> 00:20:09 weren't interested in
00:20:09 --> 00:20:10 before because they didn't
00:20:10 --> 00:20:12 even know much about that
00:20:12 --> 00:20:12 and maybe they find a
00:20:12 --> 00:20:14 passion in the hallway you
00:20:14 --> 00:20:16 know so I think those those
00:20:16 --> 00:20:17 kinds of things are really
00:20:17 --> 00:20:19 um fascinating to me I like
00:20:19 --> 00:20:21 walking around conference
00:20:21 --> 00:20:22 and just you know peering
00:20:23 --> 00:20:24 in and just seeing people
00:20:24 --> 00:20:26 having just those nice big
00:20:26 --> 00:20:27 dialogues and discussions
00:20:27 --> 00:20:28 and seeing you know somebody that
00:20:29 --> 00:20:32 um I know in one space of my
00:20:32 --> 00:20:33 life and and I know from
00:20:33 --> 00:20:34 another space of my life
00:20:34 --> 00:20:35 that somehow or another
00:20:35 --> 00:20:37 they they connect I think
00:20:37 --> 00:20:39 that happens so often and
00:20:39 --> 00:20:40 we all have examples of
00:20:40 --> 00:20:41 that so I think that like
00:20:41 --> 00:20:42 you said those things that
00:20:42 --> 00:20:44 happen between sessions are
00:20:44 --> 00:20:44 really good but then we
00:20:44 --> 00:20:46 also have you know really
00:20:47 --> 00:20:49 intentional networking
00:20:49 --> 00:20:51 opportunities where people
00:20:51 --> 00:20:53 can come in and, you know,
00:20:53 --> 00:20:55 meet and hang out and
00:20:55 --> 00:20:57 discuss things and so on.
00:20:57 --> 00:20:59 And that can be everything from, you know,
00:21:00 --> 00:21:04 the sort of, well, our, you know,
00:21:04 --> 00:21:05 final day and the big party
00:21:05 --> 00:21:06 and all of that kind of thing.
00:21:07 --> 00:21:08 But also we have
00:21:09 --> 00:21:09 You know,
00:21:09 --> 00:21:11 chances where if you want to get
00:21:11 --> 00:21:13 out and go into Orlando a
00:21:13 --> 00:21:14 little bit more in the evening,
00:21:14 --> 00:21:15 we are going to have a sort
00:21:15 --> 00:21:17 of like a pub crawl sort of
00:21:17 --> 00:21:19 an event where people go out and,
00:21:19 --> 00:21:20 you know,
00:21:20 --> 00:21:23 sort of take off the ties and
00:21:23 --> 00:21:25 have a little bit of fun and enjoy.
00:21:26 --> 00:21:27 each other because we're all
00:21:27 --> 00:21:29 alike a lot ways and so we
00:21:29 --> 00:21:31 all enjoy getting to hang
00:21:31 --> 00:21:33 out with our our colleagues
00:21:33 --> 00:21:34 and our people who have
00:21:34 --> 00:21:36 similar passions and you
00:21:36 --> 00:21:37 know that and then we also
00:21:37 --> 00:21:39 have a lot of opportunities
00:21:39 --> 00:21:42 even within the the the
00:21:43 --> 00:21:46 expo and the exhibit hall a lot of our
00:21:47 --> 00:21:49 great times occur in there
00:21:49 --> 00:21:52 when we network in that way.
00:21:52 --> 00:21:53 And then in that exhibit
00:21:53 --> 00:21:55 hall is typically also where we have like,
00:21:55 --> 00:21:57 or in that space,
00:21:57 --> 00:21:58 a lot of times we'll also
00:21:58 --> 00:22:00 have our first timers
00:22:00 --> 00:22:02 breakfast and some other
00:22:02 --> 00:22:03 types of activities.
00:22:03 --> 00:22:05 So just so much to do,
00:22:05 --> 00:22:06 whether you're a season,
00:22:06 --> 00:22:08 you've been coming to AOMT, you know,
00:22:08 --> 00:22:09 for a number of times or you're
00:22:09 --> 00:22:11 coming for your first time and you're like,
00:22:12 --> 00:22:12 oh gosh,
00:22:13 --> 00:22:14 I don't know what to do with this
00:22:14 --> 00:22:15 conference.
00:22:15 --> 00:22:17 I think that we've done such a great job.
00:22:17 --> 00:22:20 And to bring that back, Megan,
00:22:20 --> 00:22:20 you've done such a great
00:22:20 --> 00:22:22 job at this when you were
00:22:22 --> 00:22:22 conference chair.
00:22:22 --> 00:22:24 And then before you,
00:22:25 --> 00:22:27 the conference chair also did a great job,
00:22:27 --> 00:22:28 but it was probably,
00:22:29 --> 00:22:31 I remember going to my
00:22:31 --> 00:22:33 first AOMT and it was a
00:22:33 --> 00:22:34 good conference and there
00:22:34 --> 00:22:35 was a lot of great material.
00:22:36 --> 00:22:37 I don't know if we had the
00:22:37 --> 00:22:38 same kind of like intention
00:22:38 --> 00:22:40 about bringing people together,
00:22:40 --> 00:22:40 especially some of the
00:22:40 --> 00:22:42 newer clinicians or people
00:22:42 --> 00:22:44 that didn't know each other very well.
00:22:44 --> 00:22:46 And so I went into that conference going,
00:22:47 --> 00:22:48 I went to the education sessions,
00:22:48 --> 00:22:51 but I didn't know that, oh, the lectures,
00:22:51 --> 00:22:53 you know, or the luncheon,
00:22:53 --> 00:22:54 the awards luncheon, right?
00:22:54 --> 00:22:55 I didn't know that was for everyone,
00:22:56 --> 00:22:56 right?
00:22:56 --> 00:22:57 And I was like, oh, wait,
00:22:57 --> 00:22:58 I need to be there.
00:22:58 --> 00:23:00 I got to attend this thing now.
00:23:00 --> 00:23:03 And so there's just so many
00:23:03 --> 00:23:05 things for folks to do.
00:23:05 --> 00:23:06 Even if you're just coming by yourself,
00:23:06 --> 00:23:07 you don't know a single
00:23:07 --> 00:23:08 person at this conference,
00:23:09 --> 00:23:10 you'll find a lane and
00:23:10 --> 00:23:11 you're going to have a lot of fun at it.
00:23:12 --> 00:23:13 There's also a five K event too.
00:23:13 --> 00:23:14 If anybody wants to get up
00:23:14 --> 00:23:15 super early in the morning
00:23:15 --> 00:23:16 and run a five K there,
00:23:17 --> 00:23:18 I think that's Saturday morning.
00:23:19 --> 00:23:20 You're not leading it though, Derek,
00:23:20 --> 00:23:21 right?
00:23:22 --> 00:23:23 I think I'm running in it,
00:23:23 --> 00:23:24 but I don't know if I'm going to leave.
00:23:24 --> 00:23:24 Okay.
00:23:24 --> 00:23:26 For all of our listeners, please note,
00:23:26 --> 00:23:28 if you beat Derek,
00:23:28 --> 00:23:29 I will find a ticket for
00:23:29 --> 00:23:31 you for the business
00:23:31 --> 00:23:33 meeting that will provide you a beverage.
00:23:33 --> 00:23:34 And so, yeah,
00:23:35 --> 00:23:37 I think we can inspire some speakers to,
00:23:37 --> 00:23:38 or some listeners to have
00:23:38 --> 00:23:40 the opportunity to give you
00:23:40 --> 00:23:41 some run for your money on that,
00:23:42 --> 00:23:43 that six K event.
00:23:43 --> 00:23:44 So that puts a lot of
00:23:44 --> 00:23:45 pressure on me to make sure
00:23:45 --> 00:23:47 that we're not overfunding the,
00:23:47 --> 00:23:48 those tickets.
00:23:48 --> 00:23:52 If you're actually running faster, Derek.
00:23:53 --> 00:23:54 That's all right.
00:23:54 --> 00:23:56 So just in all sincerity,
00:23:57 --> 00:23:57 that is a great event.
00:23:58 --> 00:23:58 I know some people like to
00:23:58 --> 00:24:00 have a little fitness in the morning.
00:24:00 --> 00:24:01 And so that's a great way to do it.
00:24:01 --> 00:24:04 So a five K race with Derek.
00:24:04 --> 00:24:05 That's what I just heard you
00:24:05 --> 00:24:06 say that that was going to be.
00:24:07 --> 00:24:08 And, you know,
00:24:08 --> 00:24:09 you spoke a little bit about
00:24:10 --> 00:24:10 the networking events.
00:24:11 --> 00:24:13 So there's an event on Friday night,
00:24:13 --> 00:24:14 and then there's event Saturday night,
00:24:14 --> 00:24:15 and then there's a lunch.
00:24:16 --> 00:24:17 So all of these things are covered.
00:24:17 --> 00:24:18 They don't have to pay for anything.
00:24:19 --> 00:24:20 Is that kind of what you're
00:24:20 --> 00:24:20 telling us with some of
00:24:21 --> 00:24:21 these really cool
00:24:21 --> 00:24:23 networking opportunities?
00:24:23 --> 00:24:23 I'm really telling you that.
00:24:23 --> 00:24:24 Isn't that crazy?
00:24:24 --> 00:24:24 That's pretty great.
00:24:24 --> 00:24:27 I think one of, you know, I love CSM.
00:24:27 --> 00:24:29 I mean, I think, you know,
00:24:29 --> 00:24:30 I love CSM for a very
00:24:30 --> 00:24:31 different reason than I like AOMT.
00:24:32 --> 00:24:33 And I know that many of us
00:24:33 --> 00:24:35 who have gone to both conferences,
00:24:35 --> 00:24:37 we describe those in very different ways.
00:24:37 --> 00:24:39 CSN is very big.
00:24:39 --> 00:24:41 It's energizing because of the size of it.
00:24:41 --> 00:24:43 It's also very intimidating.
00:24:43 --> 00:24:44 And I also know one of the
00:24:44 --> 00:24:46 things that always frustrates me is like,
00:24:46 --> 00:24:47 I don't know where to go
00:24:47 --> 00:24:48 because there's just so much,
00:24:49 --> 00:24:51 but then I also don't know, like, God,
00:24:51 --> 00:24:52 I gotta go find some food somewhere.
00:24:52 --> 00:24:53 Right.
00:24:53 --> 00:24:54 And then like that becomes frustrating.
00:24:55 --> 00:24:57 And what's nice about AOMP is that
00:24:57 --> 00:24:59 It's you walk in the doors
00:24:59 --> 00:25:01 and it's like white glove service.
00:25:01 --> 00:25:02 Everything is taken care of
00:25:02 --> 00:25:04 for you for the weekend.
00:25:04 --> 00:25:05 Like you don't have to worry
00:25:05 --> 00:25:06 about your meals.
00:25:06 --> 00:25:06 You don't have to worry
00:25:06 --> 00:25:08 about food so much.
00:25:08 --> 00:25:09 You don't have to worry
00:25:09 --> 00:25:09 about like what you're
00:25:09 --> 00:25:10 going to be doing or
00:25:10 --> 00:25:12 activities or which events
00:25:12 --> 00:25:13 you should be at because you don't.
00:25:13 --> 00:25:15 you go to one event because
00:25:15 --> 00:25:16 that's where everybody goes
00:25:16 --> 00:25:17 to is to that event and
00:25:17 --> 00:25:19 then that allows for you to
00:25:19 --> 00:25:20 kind of see people
00:25:20 --> 00:25:21 throughout the entire time
00:25:21 --> 00:25:23 and that I think really um
00:25:23 --> 00:25:24 enables people to build
00:25:24 --> 00:25:25 those connections very
00:25:25 --> 00:25:27 differently than you do at
00:25:27 --> 00:25:29 a larger sort of scaled
00:25:29 --> 00:25:31 conference well I I think
00:25:32 --> 00:25:33 you're spot on I think this
00:25:33 --> 00:25:35 is just such a unique it's
00:25:35 --> 00:25:36 such a unique conference
00:25:36 --> 00:25:38 and and I think people may not know
00:25:39 --> 00:25:40 But they don't know, right?
00:25:40 --> 00:25:41 They don't know that this is
00:25:41 --> 00:25:43 all inclusive in terms of the food pieces,
00:25:43 --> 00:25:45 especially from continental
00:25:45 --> 00:25:46 breakfast in the morning
00:25:46 --> 00:25:47 that they had in several of
00:25:47 --> 00:25:48 these areas with exhibitors,
00:25:48 --> 00:25:49 and then by lunch,
00:25:49 --> 00:25:51 either a box lunch or the full luncheon.
00:25:51 --> 00:25:51 I mean,
00:25:51 --> 00:25:54 just so many wonderful pieces that
00:25:54 --> 00:25:57 had been really thoughtfully included.
00:25:57 --> 00:25:57 And Derek,
00:25:57 --> 00:25:59 you did a great job with the lineup.
00:25:59 --> 00:26:00 And, you know,
00:26:00 --> 00:26:01 I have to always give shout
00:26:01 --> 00:26:02 out to the staff at AONT
00:26:02 --> 00:26:04 because really without them,
00:26:04 --> 00:26:06 this doesn't go, right?
00:26:06 --> 00:26:06 So,
00:26:06 --> 00:26:08 and they are definitely been so good
00:26:08 --> 00:26:10 about receiving questions
00:26:10 --> 00:26:12 from people and attendees.
00:26:12 --> 00:26:14 And so I know that they have been
00:26:14 --> 00:26:16 hopefully very helpful to you.
00:26:16 --> 00:26:17 And I believe that members
00:26:17 --> 00:26:19 love being able to reach out to them.
00:26:19 --> 00:26:20 So as people have questions,
00:26:21 --> 00:26:22 would you guide them to
00:26:22 --> 00:26:24 maybe call the office or
00:26:24 --> 00:26:25 reach out to the office?
00:26:25 --> 00:26:25 Or what would be the best
00:26:26 --> 00:26:27 way if they have questions
00:26:27 --> 00:26:28 about maybe any of the
00:26:28 --> 00:26:29 virtual options or any of
00:26:29 --> 00:26:30 the onsite pieces?
00:26:31 --> 00:26:31 Yeah, one hundred percent.
00:26:32 --> 00:26:33 So call the office.
00:26:33 --> 00:26:34 The contact information is
00:26:35 --> 00:26:37 on the website there or, you know,
00:26:37 --> 00:26:40 office at AOMP.org is maybe
00:26:40 --> 00:26:42 the easiest for individuals
00:26:42 --> 00:26:43 to reach out and connect.
00:26:43 --> 00:26:45 And if they have questions, you know,
00:26:45 --> 00:26:46 anything,
00:26:46 --> 00:26:47 any kind of question that they might have,
00:26:47 --> 00:26:48 I know they can address
00:26:48 --> 00:26:49 those questions really well.
00:26:49 --> 00:26:53 And so I do encourage people who are,
00:26:53 --> 00:26:53 you know,
00:26:54 --> 00:26:55 thinking about it,
00:26:55 --> 00:26:56 maybe have some questions about that.
00:26:56 --> 00:26:57 If they have some content
00:26:57 --> 00:26:58 related questions, things like that,
00:26:58 --> 00:26:59 I mean,
00:26:59 --> 00:27:00 certainly they can reach out to me
00:27:00 --> 00:27:00 as well.
00:27:01 --> 00:27:01 Um,
00:27:01 --> 00:27:02 and I know the office would be able to
00:27:02 --> 00:27:04 get their contact information to me and I,
00:27:04 --> 00:27:05 and I've fielded some of
00:27:05 --> 00:27:07 those kinds of questions already before.
00:27:07 --> 00:27:09 And so that's perfectly fine.
00:27:09 --> 00:27:11 Um, and that perfectly expected as well.
00:27:11 --> 00:27:12 That's awesome.
00:27:12 --> 00:27:13 Awesome.
00:27:13 --> 00:27:14 Well, Derek,
00:27:14 --> 00:27:15 I want to be mindful of
00:27:15 --> 00:27:17 everyone's time and I so
00:27:17 --> 00:27:18 appreciate the opportunity
00:27:18 --> 00:27:19 to just have some candid
00:27:19 --> 00:27:20 conversation with you about
00:27:20 --> 00:27:22 all things AMP conference and, uh,
00:27:23 --> 00:27:24 hopefully a few listeners
00:27:24 --> 00:27:26 who hadn't known about all
00:27:26 --> 00:27:27 the different pieces and parts,
00:27:27 --> 00:27:28 one about conference and
00:27:28 --> 00:27:30 who you're bringing to the main stage,
00:27:30 --> 00:27:32 hopefully learned a few things.
00:27:33 --> 00:27:34 But again,
00:27:34 --> 00:27:34 we always have to be
00:27:34 --> 00:27:35 appreciative of the people
00:27:35 --> 00:27:37 giving up so much time, energy,
00:27:37 --> 00:27:38 and effort to do this work.
00:27:38 --> 00:27:38 And
00:27:39 --> 00:27:40 that certainly includes you
00:27:40 --> 00:27:41 and the staff so thank you
00:27:41 --> 00:27:42 so much for doing that work
00:27:42 --> 00:27:43 on on the behalf of our
00:27:43 --> 00:27:45 profession right really
00:27:45 --> 00:27:46 advancing our knowledge
00:27:46 --> 00:27:47 helps our patients and if
00:27:47 --> 00:27:48 we really are doing that
00:27:48 --> 00:27:49 work we have to be indebted
00:27:49 --> 00:27:51 to the people who put the
00:27:51 --> 00:27:52 work in to getting this
00:27:52 --> 00:27:53 line up and getting the
00:27:53 --> 00:27:55 conference ready to go so thank you for
00:27:55 --> 00:27:56 Yeah, you're welcome.
00:27:56 --> 00:27:57 And also, you know,
00:27:57 --> 00:27:58 you mentioned it already to
00:27:59 --> 00:28:00 the conference committee earlier.
00:28:01 --> 00:28:02 They put in a lot of work as well.
00:28:03 --> 00:28:04 And especially this year, you know,
00:28:04 --> 00:28:06 just to kind of come back around to that,
00:28:06 --> 00:28:07 we're gonna have a great
00:28:07 --> 00:28:08 conference because we had a
00:28:09 --> 00:28:12 very large number of submissions.
00:28:12 --> 00:28:13 It was actually a lot of
00:28:13 --> 00:28:13 work that the conference
00:28:14 --> 00:28:15 committee went through to
00:28:16 --> 00:28:17 work through and get, you know, sort of a
00:28:18 --> 00:28:20 a conference that we felt
00:28:20 --> 00:28:21 was going to be diverse
00:28:21 --> 00:28:24 enough and experiences and
00:28:24 --> 00:28:24 that kind of thing.
00:28:24 --> 00:28:25 And so I really want to give
00:28:25 --> 00:28:28 them props as well, as you know,
00:28:28 --> 00:28:29 that they work really hard.
00:28:29 --> 00:28:30 Absolutely.
00:28:30 --> 00:28:30 I do.
00:28:31 --> 00:28:32 Well, I do.
00:28:32 --> 00:28:32 Again,
00:28:33 --> 00:28:34 I look so forward to seeing you and
00:28:34 --> 00:28:36 any of the listeners who
00:28:36 --> 00:28:38 are going to join us in
00:28:38 --> 00:28:40 Orlando for our conference.
00:28:40 --> 00:28:41 I cannot wait to see people.
00:28:41 --> 00:28:42 Such a lineup,
00:28:42 --> 00:28:44 such a great energy that always comes.
00:28:44 --> 00:28:45 Virtual options are
00:28:45 --> 00:28:46 definitely available too.
00:28:47 --> 00:28:48 And I thought that the, you know,
00:28:48 --> 00:28:49 the lineup looked really
00:28:49 --> 00:28:50 great and it highlighted on
00:28:50 --> 00:28:52 the website at schedule at a glance,
00:28:52 --> 00:28:54 some of the virtual pieces too.
00:28:54 --> 00:28:55 So that way people could
00:28:55 --> 00:28:56 kind of know what are they
00:28:56 --> 00:28:58 seeing and what's the bang for the buck.
00:28:58 --> 00:28:59 If they can't make it down,
00:28:59 --> 00:29:00 we still welcome them in
00:29:00 --> 00:29:01 that virtual sense too.
00:29:02 --> 00:29:03 So, you know,
00:29:03 --> 00:29:04 hopefully if people have
00:29:04 --> 00:29:05 questions about virtual elements,
00:29:05 --> 00:29:07 they certainly should reach out.
00:29:07 --> 00:29:08 I know some people are,
00:29:08 --> 00:29:09 am I really going to get
00:29:09 --> 00:29:11 the quality and the amount for my money?
00:29:11 --> 00:29:13 And the answer is, Derek,
00:29:13 --> 00:29:13 what's your answer?
00:29:14 --> 00:29:15 Oh, one hundred percent.
00:29:15 --> 00:29:15 They will.
00:29:15 --> 00:29:16 They will get actually all
00:29:16 --> 00:29:18 of the look on the website.
00:29:18 --> 00:29:19 You'll find that you'll see
00:29:20 --> 00:29:21 a lot of the information.
00:29:21 --> 00:29:22 You won't be able to go to
00:29:22 --> 00:29:24 the pub crawl with us in Orlando,
00:29:24 --> 00:29:25 but you're going to get
00:29:25 --> 00:29:27 everything else as well, though.
00:29:27 --> 00:29:28 Absolutely.
00:29:28 --> 00:29:29 Absolutely.
00:29:29 --> 00:29:29 Well, Derek,
00:29:29 --> 00:29:31 thank you so much for making time today.
00:29:31 --> 00:29:32 I cannot wait to see you and
00:29:33 --> 00:29:34 see our audience there.
00:29:34 --> 00:29:35 Have a great rest of your day, guys.
00:29:36 --> 00:29:36 Thank you.
