00:00:03 --> 00:00:04 Well, hello everyone.
00:00:04 --> 00:00:05 I'm Derek Cluley.
00:00:05 --> 00:00:07 I am the host of Hands On
00:00:07 --> 00:00:09 Hands Off podcast.
00:00:09 --> 00:00:10 I've been the host of Hands
00:00:10 --> 00:00:11 On Hands Off podcast with
00:00:11 --> 00:00:12 the Duke Centers for
00:00:12 --> 00:00:13 Excellence in Manual
00:00:13 --> 00:00:14 Manipulative Therapy.
00:00:15 --> 00:00:16 And we are excited because
00:00:16 --> 00:00:16 this is actually our first
00:00:16 --> 00:00:18 episode that we are doing
00:00:18 --> 00:00:19 where the Hands On Hands
00:00:19 --> 00:00:21 Off podcast is associated with
00:00:21 --> 00:00:23 the American Academy of
00:00:23 --> 00:00:24 Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists.
00:00:25 --> 00:00:26 So AMPH is going to be
00:00:26 --> 00:00:28 taking this over and we are
00:00:28 --> 00:00:30 super excited to be a part of this.
00:00:30 --> 00:00:32 And more exciting is that I
00:00:32 --> 00:00:35 am not going to really be the only host.
00:00:35 --> 00:00:37 We're going to have a variety of hosts.
00:00:37 --> 00:00:38 But to kick us off,
00:00:38 --> 00:00:39 we're going to have our
00:00:39 --> 00:00:41 first set of hosts really
00:00:42 --> 00:00:43 talking a little bit about, I guess,
00:00:44 --> 00:00:45 anything and everything
00:00:45 --> 00:00:47 that's related to manual therapy.
00:00:47 --> 00:00:48 We have no idea where this
00:00:48 --> 00:00:49 conversation is going to go,
00:00:49 --> 00:00:50 but I think it's going to go where we,
00:00:51 --> 00:00:53 well, I guess wherever it goes.
00:00:53 --> 00:00:54 So I'm going to bring into
00:00:54 --> 00:00:56 our stage here my fellow
00:00:56 --> 00:00:57 co-hosts for today,
00:00:57 --> 00:00:58 and we're really just going
00:00:58 --> 00:00:59 to have a conversation.
00:01:00 --> 00:01:01 a roundtable conversation
00:01:01 --> 00:01:02 about what we're planning
00:01:02 --> 00:01:03 to do what we want to do
00:01:03 --> 00:01:05 with this and then also
00:01:05 --> 00:01:05 just talk a little bit
00:01:05 --> 00:01:07 about some of the things
00:01:07 --> 00:01:07 that we're doing here
00:01:08 --> 00:01:09 within AOMP that I think
00:01:10 --> 00:01:11 our listeners would be
00:01:11 --> 00:01:13 really interested in
00:01:13 --> 00:01:15 hearing about so I'll bring
00:01:15 --> 00:01:16 Megan Donaldson and Amy
00:01:16 --> 00:01:19 McDevitt into the studio
00:01:19 --> 00:01:21 here so hello Megan hello
00:01:21 --> 00:01:22 Amy how are y'all doing today?
00:01:23 --> 00:01:24 Good, Derek.
00:01:24 --> 00:01:24 Thanks for having us.
00:01:25 --> 00:01:25 Yeah, absolutely.
00:01:26 --> 00:01:27 Well, you're having me too.
00:01:27 --> 00:01:28 So just so we're clear,
00:01:28 --> 00:01:31 this is a triple hosted
00:01:31 --> 00:01:32 event with no guests.
00:01:32 --> 00:01:34 We're all just guests and hosts.
00:01:36 --> 00:01:36 But Megan,
00:01:36 --> 00:01:39 I know that you're our president
00:01:39 --> 00:01:40 and I think it's really
00:01:40 --> 00:01:42 cool that you've taken on
00:01:42 --> 00:01:45 the opportunity to also be
00:01:45 --> 00:01:46 a part of this and really
00:01:46 --> 00:01:47 be a part of branding and things.
00:01:48 --> 00:01:48 So if you
00:01:48 --> 00:01:49 Maybe you can give your
00:01:49 --> 00:01:51 introduction first and Amy,
00:01:51 --> 00:01:52 you can go as well with, you know,
00:01:52 --> 00:01:53 being an executive board
00:01:53 --> 00:01:55 member and also being one
00:01:55 --> 00:01:56 of the hosts here.
00:01:56 --> 00:01:56 So Megan,
00:01:56 --> 00:01:57 I'm going to kick it back to you
00:01:57 --> 00:01:58 because I got to stop talking.
00:01:59 --> 00:01:59 All right.
00:01:59 --> 00:02:01 Well, I'll take it for now.
00:02:01 --> 00:02:03 So Megan Donaldson,
00:02:03 --> 00:02:04 and I'm president of AOMT.
00:02:04 --> 00:02:07 I'm also a department chair
00:02:07 --> 00:02:08 at Medical University of South Carolina.
00:02:09 --> 00:02:10 And so I've been a part of
00:02:10 --> 00:02:12 PT education for quite some time,
00:02:12 --> 00:02:13 still a clinician doing
00:02:13 --> 00:02:15 mostly pro bono work.
00:02:15 --> 00:02:18 And obviously I'm a mom of
00:02:18 --> 00:02:19 two kids and staying pretty
00:02:19 --> 00:02:21 active with all the things that they do.
00:02:21 --> 00:02:23 So when I got asked to do this,
00:02:23 --> 00:02:25 we absolutely had to say yes,
00:02:25 --> 00:02:27 because manual therapy is
00:02:27 --> 00:02:28 part of the passion that
00:02:28 --> 00:02:29 we've had for so many years,
00:02:30 --> 00:02:30 obviously serves the
00:02:31 --> 00:02:33 AMP organization really well.
00:02:33 --> 00:02:35 And I'm excited to talk a
00:02:35 --> 00:02:36 little bit about it and
00:02:36 --> 00:02:37 maybe why this is so
00:02:37 --> 00:02:38 important for us to do this
00:02:38 --> 00:02:39 adventure together.
00:02:40 --> 00:02:42 So that's a little bit about me.
00:02:42 --> 00:02:43 Amy, how about you?
00:02:44 --> 00:02:44 All right.
00:02:44 --> 00:02:44 All right.
00:02:45 --> 00:02:49 So Amy McDevitt, I am a member at large.
00:02:49 --> 00:02:50 So I'm on the executive
00:02:51 --> 00:02:52 committee also at AMT,
00:02:52 --> 00:02:53 which is a great position.
00:02:54 --> 00:02:56 I get to kind of represent
00:02:56 --> 00:02:57 membership and what's happening there.
00:02:57 --> 00:03:01 I also get to be involved in bylaw changes,
00:03:01 --> 00:03:02 which is really exciting.
00:03:04 --> 00:03:05 We always hope that we don't
00:03:05 --> 00:03:07 have more than a handful every year,
00:03:07 --> 00:03:08 but you never know what's
00:03:08 --> 00:03:09 coming down the pike.
00:03:09 --> 00:03:09 So
00:03:10 --> 00:03:12 I am an associate professor
00:03:12 --> 00:03:13 at University of Colorado.
00:03:13 --> 00:03:14 So I'm in a teaching position.
00:03:15 --> 00:03:16 Clinically,
00:03:16 --> 00:03:17 I work in an outpatient clinic
00:03:17 --> 00:03:19 at the University of Colorado Health.
00:03:19 --> 00:03:22 So I dabble in the clinical world.
00:03:22 --> 00:03:24 And then I also do some clinical research.
00:03:24 --> 00:03:25 So I get to wear that hat too.
00:03:26 --> 00:03:27 And I'm really excited to be
00:03:27 --> 00:03:29 here because I think part
00:03:29 --> 00:03:31 of what we've decided to do is, you know,
00:03:31 --> 00:03:32 interview all sorts of
00:03:33 --> 00:03:34 people that historically
00:03:34 --> 00:03:34 have been part of the
00:03:34 --> 00:03:36 organization or maybe are
00:03:36 --> 00:03:37 new and are really change
00:03:37 --> 00:03:39 makers in the organization.
00:03:39 --> 00:03:41 And we want to be able to cover, you know,
00:03:41 --> 00:03:42 a whole plethora of topics
00:03:42 --> 00:03:43 that we think are going to
00:03:43 --> 00:03:44 be interesting to the listeners.
00:03:46 --> 00:03:46 Absolutely.
00:03:47 --> 00:03:48 And I even think this next piece,
00:03:48 --> 00:03:51 which is Derek being conference chair,
00:03:51 --> 00:03:52 Can you just talk a little
00:03:52 --> 00:03:53 bit about maybe why he's
00:03:53 --> 00:03:54 interested in participating
00:03:54 --> 00:03:55 in this and how a
00:03:55 --> 00:03:56 conference could benefit?
00:03:57 --> 00:03:58 Yeah, absolutely.
00:03:58 --> 00:03:59 And I'll just give my quick
00:03:59 --> 00:04:00 introduction as well.
00:04:00 --> 00:04:02 I'm an assistant professor
00:04:02 --> 00:04:03 at Duke University in the
00:04:03 --> 00:04:05 Doctor of Physical Therapy Division.
00:04:05 --> 00:04:06 I've been a physical therapist for,
00:04:07 --> 00:04:08 you know how when you
00:04:08 --> 00:04:10 select how long you've been
00:04:10 --> 00:04:12 a member of the organization,
00:04:12 --> 00:04:13 I think it starts out like
00:04:13 --> 00:04:15 zero to two years, two to five years.
00:04:16 --> 00:04:18 six to 15, or six to 10,
00:04:18 --> 00:04:19 and then 11 to 15.
00:04:19 --> 00:04:20 And then there's like this,
00:04:20 --> 00:04:22 I think there's a 20 and up category.
00:04:22 --> 00:04:23 And it's just for like,
00:04:23 --> 00:04:24 just the rest of everybody else.
00:04:24 --> 00:04:26 I think I'm in that category now.
00:04:26 --> 00:04:30 So, but I've been a PT for a while,
00:04:31 --> 00:04:32 but I've been in academia
00:04:32 --> 00:04:33 for eight years.
00:04:33 --> 00:04:35 I do serve a little bit of
00:04:35 --> 00:04:36 clinical practice,
00:04:36 --> 00:04:37 specifically with mentoring.
00:04:37 --> 00:04:38 And I had an opportunity to
00:04:38 --> 00:04:40 mentor some manual therapy fellows,
00:04:41 --> 00:04:41 especially in this last
00:04:41 --> 00:04:42 year with our program.
00:04:43 --> 00:04:45 And so that's part of what I
00:04:45 --> 00:04:46 do professionally.
00:04:46 --> 00:04:48 And then within the organization, yes,
00:04:48 --> 00:04:49 I am the conference chair,
00:04:49 --> 00:04:50 was previously on the
00:04:50 --> 00:04:53 executive board as well in Amy's role,
00:04:53 --> 00:04:54 which I don't think we had
00:04:54 --> 00:04:56 as many bylaw changes until Amy came on.
00:04:58 --> 00:05:02 So in the conference chair role and yeah,
00:05:02 --> 00:05:03 really excited about this
00:05:03 --> 00:05:05 because I think this brings
00:05:05 --> 00:05:07 us another opportunity to
00:05:08 --> 00:05:11 highlight things that go on at conference,
00:05:11 --> 00:05:12 that go on before conference,
00:05:12 --> 00:05:14 that go on after conference.
00:05:14 --> 00:05:15 It lets people continue to
00:05:16 --> 00:05:17 live in the world that, you know,
00:05:17 --> 00:05:19 if anybody's been to one of
00:05:19 --> 00:05:20 our conferences, really,
00:05:20 --> 00:05:21 I think that's where they
00:05:21 --> 00:05:23 start to get energized and
00:05:23 --> 00:05:24 rejuvenated about what
00:05:24 --> 00:05:26 we're doing in terms of our
00:05:26 --> 00:05:27 professional career and our
00:05:27 --> 00:05:27 goals and such.
00:05:27 --> 00:05:28 And when we
00:05:29 --> 00:05:30 having something like this
00:05:30 --> 00:05:31 and as Amy said where we
00:05:31 --> 00:05:33 can bring in guests you
00:05:33 --> 00:05:35 know people who are sort of
00:05:35 --> 00:05:36 legends and lores of the
00:05:36 --> 00:05:37 profession but then also
00:05:37 --> 00:05:39 bringing in those that are
00:05:39 --> 00:05:40 those new and upcoming
00:05:40 --> 00:05:41 talents and highlighting
00:05:41 --> 00:05:42 people I think this is a
00:05:42 --> 00:05:43 really cool opportunity
00:05:43 --> 00:05:45 that's been a while that
00:05:45 --> 00:05:45 way I think we need to take
00:05:45 --> 00:05:48 this take on this challenge
00:05:48 --> 00:05:48 and looking forward to it.
00:05:49 --> 00:05:50 Yeah and Derek you've done a
00:05:50 --> 00:05:51 great job and bringing so
00:05:51 --> 00:05:53 much energy to conference I
00:05:53 --> 00:05:54 mean and I'll just say
00:05:54 --> 00:05:55 I was in that formal role,
00:05:55 --> 00:05:57 but you take it to a whole nother level.
00:05:57 --> 00:05:59 So this is great to have you
00:05:59 --> 00:06:00 here and doing this and
00:06:00 --> 00:06:02 taking what we bring her
00:06:02 --> 00:06:04 conference just to a different medium,
00:06:04 --> 00:06:04 right?
00:06:04 --> 00:06:06 Like it's to reach audiences
00:06:06 --> 00:06:08 that it's not just a single week.
00:06:08 --> 00:06:10 Um, it extends over time.
00:06:10 --> 00:06:12 They can hit us pretty much any, uh,
00:06:12 --> 00:06:13 you know, day of the week.
00:06:13 --> 00:06:15 If once we get to full scale,
00:06:15 --> 00:06:16 this will be great for
00:06:16 --> 00:06:17 those audience members.
00:06:17 --> 00:06:18 And to me,
00:06:18 --> 00:06:20 this is part of our strategic plan.
00:06:20 --> 00:06:22 We absolutely want to engage.
00:06:22 --> 00:06:24 with our membership and give
00:06:24 --> 00:06:25 them something back.
00:06:25 --> 00:06:25 I mean,
00:06:25 --> 00:06:27 obviously they've been members for
00:06:27 --> 00:06:28 a long time,
00:06:28 --> 00:06:29 but we also want to make sure
00:06:29 --> 00:06:30 that they can feel like
00:06:30 --> 00:06:31 there's resources that they
00:06:31 --> 00:06:33 can plug into and know that
00:06:33 --> 00:06:34 we have those resources,
00:06:34 --> 00:06:36 that we're building those resources.
00:06:36 --> 00:06:38 That's a goal I know that as
00:06:38 --> 00:06:40 a board we've put this forward to do,
00:06:40 --> 00:06:41 and this was one of the
00:06:41 --> 00:06:42 mediums that we wanted to do it.
00:06:42 --> 00:06:44 So we appreciate you and
00:06:45 --> 00:06:47 Duke and Chad Cook for
00:06:47 --> 00:06:48 allowing us to kind of have
00:06:48 --> 00:06:49 this opportunity to
00:06:49 --> 00:06:54 transition with CMET's hands-on,
00:06:54 --> 00:06:55 hands-off podcast so we can
00:06:55 --> 00:06:58 get this to our audience as well.
00:06:58 --> 00:06:58 Yeah.
00:06:58 --> 00:06:59 And I think it aligns really
00:06:59 --> 00:07:01 well with AOMT and the
00:07:02 --> 00:07:04 strategic plan that we have.
00:07:04 --> 00:07:05 And it's nice to see this a
00:07:05 --> 00:07:06 little bit more formalized
00:07:07 --> 00:07:10 connection between the two endeavors,
00:07:10 --> 00:07:10 well,
00:07:10 --> 00:07:12 not with the endeavor and then with
00:07:12 --> 00:07:13 the association.
00:07:13 --> 00:07:14 You know,
00:07:14 --> 00:07:17 the mission for the Centers for
00:07:17 --> 00:07:18 Excellence in Manual and
00:07:18 --> 00:07:21 Manipulative Therapy is to provide,
00:07:21 --> 00:07:22 I think it's really this
00:07:22 --> 00:07:23 balanced and honest,
00:07:23 --> 00:07:24 credible information about
00:07:25 --> 00:07:27 manual therapy and what better
00:07:28 --> 00:07:30 avenue to do that than to
00:07:30 --> 00:07:31 have a podcast that brings
00:07:31 --> 00:07:34 in people who are, you know,
00:07:34 --> 00:07:36 can speak to sort of both
00:07:36 --> 00:07:37 sides of the aisle really nicely.
00:07:37 --> 00:07:38 So I look forward to
00:07:38 --> 00:07:39 bringing in some of those guests.
00:07:39 --> 00:07:40 That's kind of what we've
00:07:40 --> 00:07:40 tried to do with some of
00:07:40 --> 00:07:42 the conference programming as well.
00:07:43 --> 00:07:43 Yeah.
00:07:43 --> 00:07:44 And I like how we've kind of
00:07:44 --> 00:07:47 decided as a group here to engage,
00:07:47 --> 00:07:48 you know,
00:07:48 --> 00:07:49 people on topics that aren't
00:07:49 --> 00:07:50 just maybe specific to
00:07:50 --> 00:07:51 manual therapy research,
00:07:51 --> 00:07:52 but I love that we're
00:07:52 --> 00:07:55 thinking about clinicians
00:07:55 --> 00:07:56 and bringing in clinicians
00:07:56 --> 00:07:58 that have ideas related to the topic.
00:07:58 --> 00:07:59 We've talked about maybe
00:07:59 --> 00:08:00 bringing in some people who
00:08:00 --> 00:08:02 have some expertise in education,
00:08:03 --> 00:08:04 because I think a lot of us
00:08:04 --> 00:08:05 wear different hats,
00:08:05 --> 00:08:07 whether we're clinicians
00:08:07 --> 00:08:08 and educating students or
00:08:08 --> 00:08:10 residents or fellows, you know,
00:08:10 --> 00:08:11 we can always glean more.
00:08:12 --> 00:08:12 you know,
00:08:12 --> 00:08:14 insight and information from
00:08:14 --> 00:08:15 people that are coming in,
00:08:15 --> 00:08:16 talking to us about how to
00:08:16 --> 00:08:17 be better educators.
00:08:18 --> 00:08:20 So I like the kind of draft
00:08:21 --> 00:08:22 lineup that we have that
00:08:22 --> 00:08:23 we're not going to just
00:08:23 --> 00:08:24 close just quite yet.
00:08:25 --> 00:08:26 But I think we have some
00:08:26 --> 00:08:27 good ideas about the types
00:08:27 --> 00:08:28 of people that we're going
00:08:28 --> 00:08:30 to bring in to share ideas with us.
00:08:30 --> 00:08:31 Yeah, Amy,
00:08:31 --> 00:08:32 I'm glad you brought that up
00:08:32 --> 00:08:33 because I think it's nice for the...
00:08:35 --> 00:08:36 probably the majority of our
00:08:36 --> 00:08:38 membership is not
00:08:38 --> 00:08:40 researchers and educators, right?
00:08:40 --> 00:08:41 The majority of our
00:08:41 --> 00:08:43 membership is clinicians.
00:08:43 --> 00:08:46 And I think making sure that
00:08:46 --> 00:08:49 we always have some sort of
00:08:49 --> 00:08:51 focus within that.
00:08:51 --> 00:08:52 And I think having a chance
00:08:52 --> 00:08:54 to bring in clinicians,
00:08:54 --> 00:08:55 one thing I actually have
00:08:55 --> 00:08:56 always thought that AOM has
00:08:56 --> 00:08:57 done really well that,
00:08:57 --> 00:09:00 You know, we have high level researchers,
00:09:00 --> 00:09:00 you know,
00:09:00 --> 00:09:02 some of the highest level of
00:09:02 --> 00:09:03 research funding that are
00:09:03 --> 00:09:05 part of our membership.
00:09:06 --> 00:09:08 But we also have very impactful,
00:09:08 --> 00:09:10 well-known clinicians who, you know,
00:09:10 --> 00:09:13 many of our members have learned from it.
00:09:13 --> 00:09:14 And when you think about who
00:09:14 --> 00:09:16 we are with the fellowship training,
00:09:17 --> 00:09:19 it truly is a clinical fellowship.
00:09:19 --> 00:09:22 And so I think having, you know,
00:09:22 --> 00:09:23 making sure that when we
00:09:23 --> 00:09:24 bring in guests that we're
00:09:24 --> 00:09:27 always considering, you know,
00:09:27 --> 00:09:28 that part of it as well,
00:09:29 --> 00:09:30 not necessarily translating
00:09:30 --> 00:09:32 all these evidence from the researcher,
00:09:32 --> 00:09:34 but also bringing in the clinician who is,
00:09:34 --> 00:09:36 um, you know, using some of that.
00:09:37 --> 00:09:38 Yeah.
00:09:39 --> 00:09:39 Yeah.
00:09:39 --> 00:09:39 I think that's great.
00:09:39 --> 00:09:41 And we all started there, you know, that's,
00:09:41 --> 00:09:43 uh, for all of us, those were our roots.
00:09:43 --> 00:09:46 And so, um, I think it's great to try to.
00:09:47 --> 00:09:48 give clinicians some
00:09:48 --> 00:09:49 palatable information to
00:09:49 --> 00:09:51 take back to the clinic, you know,
00:09:51 --> 00:09:53 whether they practice just
00:09:53 --> 00:09:54 clinically or whether they
00:09:54 --> 00:09:55 educate in the clinic.
00:09:55 --> 00:09:56 And I still think what's
00:09:57 --> 00:09:57 neat is bringing in people
00:09:57 --> 00:09:59 to talk about education.
00:09:59 --> 00:10:00 It's not just necessarily
00:10:00 --> 00:10:02 education of peers and colleagues,
00:10:02 --> 00:10:03 but education of patients too.
00:10:03 --> 00:10:04 And so, you know,
00:10:05 --> 00:10:05 I think there's a lot of
00:10:06 --> 00:10:07 different avenues that we
00:10:07 --> 00:10:08 are willing to take with us
00:10:08 --> 00:10:10 in order to just bring in a
00:10:10 --> 00:10:12 diversity of speakers to
00:10:12 --> 00:10:13 give us a diversity of information.
00:10:14 --> 00:10:15 And Amy,
00:10:15 --> 00:10:16 I love the fact that we even went
00:10:17 --> 00:10:18 outside of the US, right?
00:10:18 --> 00:10:20 Like our goal as an organization,
00:10:20 --> 00:10:22 which is a member organization of iFOMT,
00:10:22 --> 00:10:23 is for us to have that
00:10:23 --> 00:10:25 international flavor and
00:10:25 --> 00:10:26 perspective at times.
00:10:26 --> 00:10:27 I think it makes us better.
00:10:27 --> 00:10:29 And so for us to look at
00:10:29 --> 00:10:30 speakers and really be
00:10:30 --> 00:10:31 mindful about who can we
00:10:31 --> 00:10:32 pull from the US and who
00:10:32 --> 00:10:33 can we pull from outside,
00:10:33 --> 00:10:34 because this medium allows
00:10:35 --> 00:10:36 that rich engagement.
00:10:36 --> 00:10:37 And it's not about, oh,
00:10:37 --> 00:10:38 can you make the week work?
00:10:38 --> 00:10:39 Can you travel?
00:10:39 --> 00:10:40 Can you
00:10:40 --> 00:10:41 you know, leave your family,
00:10:41 --> 00:10:42 because I mean, let's be honest,
00:10:42 --> 00:10:43 if we're really looking at
00:10:43 --> 00:10:44 how do we do this,
00:10:45 --> 00:10:47 where we can engage with each other,
00:10:47 --> 00:10:48 it has to fit in our life.
00:10:49 --> 00:10:50 And so we're trying to find
00:10:50 --> 00:10:52 ways to do that, whether you're a mom,
00:10:52 --> 00:10:54 a dad or whatever, you know,
00:10:54 --> 00:10:54 you got to make sure that
00:10:55 --> 00:10:55 we can fit in the life.
00:10:55 --> 00:10:56 And so really,
00:10:56 --> 00:10:58 this is a great medium for
00:10:58 --> 00:10:59 us to be able to line up
00:10:59 --> 00:11:00 amazing speakers,
00:11:01 --> 00:11:02 with some flexibility, right.
00:11:02 --> 00:11:03 That bring that
00:11:03 --> 00:11:04 international flavor
00:11:04 --> 00:11:06 experience expertise.
00:11:07 --> 00:11:07 Um, and to me,
00:11:07 --> 00:11:10 this is a priority because it helps our,
00:11:10 --> 00:11:10 our professional
00:11:10 --> 00:11:12 development of all of our, our members.
00:11:13 --> 00:11:13 Um,
00:11:13 --> 00:11:15 and so obviously carrying kind of that
00:11:15 --> 00:11:17 international feel with a
00:11:17 --> 00:11:20 little bit of a hometown grown feel, um,
00:11:20 --> 00:11:22 by having some of the, uh,
00:11:22 --> 00:11:23 the locals that they know
00:11:23 --> 00:11:25 of AOM doing some of the facilitating.
00:11:26 --> 00:11:26 And Megan,
00:11:26 --> 00:11:27 I want to say I really
00:11:27 --> 00:11:28 appreciate the fact that
00:11:28 --> 00:11:29 you're putting yourself out
00:11:29 --> 00:11:30 there as the person who's
00:11:30 --> 00:11:31 going to interview the
00:11:31 --> 00:11:33 international speakers at 2, 3,
00:11:33 --> 00:11:34 4 o'clock in the morning.
00:11:34 --> 00:11:37 I think your commitment is
00:11:37 --> 00:11:38 just unbelievable.
00:11:38 --> 00:11:39 I really appreciate the fact
00:11:39 --> 00:11:40 that you put that out there
00:11:41 --> 00:11:44 to be the front runner in
00:11:44 --> 00:11:45 doing those late night interviews.
00:11:46 --> 00:11:48 I'm just not sure.
00:11:48 --> 00:11:49 Yeah.
00:11:49 --> 00:11:51 Isn't Amy our international traveler?
00:11:51 --> 00:11:51 I mean,
00:11:52 --> 00:11:55 I really feel like I should give this up.
00:11:55 --> 00:11:56 I mean, like, you know,
00:11:56 --> 00:11:59 I feel like this is really your space,
00:11:59 --> 00:11:59 Amy.
00:11:59 --> 00:12:02 You know, I'm excited to just, you know,
00:12:03 --> 00:12:04 watch you grow in that platform.
00:12:04 --> 00:12:05 So, you know,
00:12:05 --> 00:12:07 feel free to take those early
00:12:07 --> 00:12:08 morning calls.
00:12:09 --> 00:12:10 Mountain time is probably
00:12:10 --> 00:12:12 the most flexible time.
00:12:12 --> 00:12:13 Is that right?
00:12:13 --> 00:12:14 But I agree, like, you know,
00:12:14 --> 00:12:15 the international side.
00:12:15 --> 00:12:16 But you could also do, like,
00:12:16 --> 00:12:18 the early morning instead
00:12:18 --> 00:12:20 of the late evening for those recordings.
00:12:20 --> 00:12:23 But speaking of international, I just,
00:12:23 --> 00:12:26 because I know our, and I don't know,
00:12:27 --> 00:12:28 so for our listeners out there right now,
00:12:29 --> 00:12:29 which right now we
00:12:29 --> 00:12:31 currently have none because
00:12:31 --> 00:12:32 this is our very first recording,
00:12:32 --> 00:12:34 so we're just saying this in this moment.
00:12:35 --> 00:12:36 but hopefully as we do this
00:12:37 --> 00:12:38 launch this out we will
00:12:38 --> 00:12:40 actually have um listeners
00:12:40 --> 00:12:41 and we'll see when this one
00:12:41 --> 00:12:42 actually gets pushed out
00:12:42 --> 00:12:43 there but when we're
00:12:43 --> 00:12:45 recording this right now on
00:12:45 --> 00:12:47 june 17th is that right I
00:12:47 --> 00:12:49 think it is june 17th and
00:12:49 --> 00:12:50 um I would imagine that
00:12:50 --> 00:12:52 this will get published um
00:12:52 --> 00:12:54 after the big event that's
00:12:54 --> 00:12:56 coming up in early july and
00:12:56 --> 00:12:58 megan you spoke to this
00:12:58 --> 00:12:59 just a couple minutes ago
00:12:59 --> 00:13:00 about the international
00:13:00 --> 00:13:01 presence and the
00:13:01 --> 00:13:03 international um you know a
00:13:03 --> 00:13:05 appreciation that we have.
00:13:06 --> 00:13:08 So, you know,
00:13:08 --> 00:13:10 besides the Taylor Swift
00:13:10 --> 00:13:12 concert that I think you
00:13:12 --> 00:13:13 may be going to or not,
00:13:13 --> 00:13:14 what else are you excited
00:13:14 --> 00:13:18 about this iFOMT expedition
00:13:18 --> 00:13:19 that we're going to be headed out to?
00:13:19 --> 00:13:21 And I think maybe your first iFOMT, right?
00:13:23 --> 00:13:24 Yeah, this is my first iFOMT.
00:13:24 --> 00:13:26 So I'm just timing of the other ones.
00:13:26 --> 00:13:27 I was never able to make it.
00:13:27 --> 00:13:27 So
00:13:28 --> 00:13:29 I'm really excited about this.
00:13:29 --> 00:13:31 So, um, you know, I think what's,
00:13:32 --> 00:13:34 so let's put, let's put it into context.
00:13:34 --> 00:13:37 So similar to AOMT, right.
00:13:37 --> 00:13:38 It's multiple days.
00:13:38 --> 00:13:39 There's some early sessions,
00:13:39 --> 00:13:40 like there's some optional
00:13:40 --> 00:13:41 things to join into,
00:13:41 --> 00:13:42 and then they do a little
00:13:42 --> 00:13:43 bit of a celebration.
00:13:43 --> 00:13:44 So that's all really similar.
00:13:45 --> 00:13:48 Um, there's a teaching, um, seminar.
00:13:48 --> 00:13:48 So again,
00:13:48 --> 00:13:49 for those who are kind of in the
00:13:50 --> 00:13:52 education space, mentors, um,
00:13:52 --> 00:13:54 maybe serving other fellows, right.
00:13:54 --> 00:13:55 Those are opportunities to
00:13:55 --> 00:13:56 plug into those other.
00:13:57 --> 00:13:58 who are doing that across the world.
00:13:59 --> 00:14:00 So that's really kind of cool.
00:14:01 --> 00:14:02 There's rich conferencing.
00:14:02 --> 00:14:03 I mean, again,
00:14:03 --> 00:14:04 I think the biggest thing
00:14:04 --> 00:14:06 for me is this is a networking event.
00:14:08 --> 00:14:09 Internationally.
00:14:09 --> 00:14:11 So what the expectations are,
00:14:12 --> 00:14:14 I think it can be as much
00:14:14 --> 00:14:16 as you want or as little as you want.
00:14:16 --> 00:14:17 It just depends on how much
00:14:17 --> 00:14:18 you want to engage in those things.
00:14:18 --> 00:14:19 So to me,
00:14:20 --> 00:14:21 this is a space that we're taking
00:14:21 --> 00:14:23 our board and we're ready
00:14:23 --> 00:14:24 to go and meet and talk
00:14:24 --> 00:14:25 with people and really
00:14:25 --> 00:14:27 figure out best ways so we
00:14:27 --> 00:14:28 can work together and
00:14:29 --> 00:14:31 leverage manual therapy on this platform
00:14:32 --> 00:14:33 internationally so that
00:14:33 --> 00:14:34 people really do get a
00:14:34 --> 00:14:36 sense of what this is.
00:14:36 --> 00:14:38 And kind of again,
00:14:38 --> 00:14:40 going back to what CMAT was there to do,
00:14:40 --> 00:14:42 it's it's to remove the misnomers.
00:14:42 --> 00:14:44 It's the misinformation that
00:14:44 --> 00:14:45 has been out there
00:14:46 --> 00:14:47 We need to talk about this
00:14:47 --> 00:14:49 as a great viable option.
00:14:49 --> 00:14:49 And, you know,
00:14:49 --> 00:14:52 I think the pendulum swings pretty good,
00:14:53 --> 00:14:54 especially in orthopedics
00:14:54 --> 00:14:55 and PT specifically.
00:14:55 --> 00:14:57 But within orthopedics, right,
00:14:57 --> 00:14:59 we've kind of gone to this exercise,
00:14:59 --> 00:15:00 pain science,
00:15:00 --> 00:15:02 and we've kind of forgotten
00:15:02 --> 00:15:02 a little bit about the
00:15:02 --> 00:15:03 benefit of manual therapy
00:15:04 --> 00:15:05 or it's been criticized.
00:15:05 --> 00:15:06 So this is a really nice
00:15:06 --> 00:15:07 place because the U.S.
00:15:07 --> 00:15:09 has stand pretty firm and we
00:15:09 --> 00:15:09 still believe in those
00:15:10 --> 00:15:11 supports and the multimodal approach.
00:15:11 --> 00:15:13 So to be able to go out there, you know,
00:15:14 --> 00:15:14 when I say out there,
00:15:14 --> 00:15:16 I'm saying Switzerland.
00:15:17 --> 00:15:18 We're going to Switzerland
00:15:18 --> 00:15:19 and we're going to have
00:15:19 --> 00:15:20 these conversations and
00:15:20 --> 00:15:22 with researchers and speakers.
00:15:23 --> 00:15:24 And yeah,
00:15:24 --> 00:15:25 I can't I really couldn't be more
00:15:25 --> 00:15:26 excited for what we get to do.
00:15:27 --> 00:15:27 So Megan,
00:15:27 --> 00:15:28 aren't you excited that we're
00:15:28 --> 00:15:29 going with Amy though?
00:15:29 --> 00:15:30 Because I actually feel like
00:15:30 --> 00:15:31 Amy's are going to be our
00:15:32 --> 00:15:33 traveling mom because I
00:15:33 --> 00:15:34 have absolutely no freaking
00:15:35 --> 00:15:36 idea what to do.
00:15:36 --> 00:15:39 I've been to Jamaica and
00:15:39 --> 00:15:40 I've been to Canada.
00:15:40 --> 00:15:41 And when I say Canada,
00:15:41 --> 00:15:43 I've been to Beaver Creek, Yukon,
00:15:44 --> 00:15:46 Yukon territory, not just like Toronto.
00:15:46 --> 00:15:48 Like I truly have been in Canada,
00:15:48 --> 00:15:49 but that's it.
00:15:49 --> 00:15:51 Like that's my international traveling.
00:15:51 --> 00:15:51 Right.
00:15:51 --> 00:15:53 So I'm super happy to have
00:15:53 --> 00:15:55 Amy advice for us.
00:15:55 --> 00:15:55 Like,
00:15:56 --> 00:15:57 You know,
00:15:57 --> 00:15:58 we don't do anything stupid and you know,
00:15:59 --> 00:15:59 or what.
00:16:00 --> 00:16:02 I'm happy to be your guide.
00:16:02 --> 00:16:04 I, uh, yeah, I'm excited.
00:16:04 --> 00:16:05 I love traveling
00:16:05 --> 00:16:06 internationally and here we go again.
00:16:06 --> 00:16:07 I just got back from an
00:16:07 --> 00:16:08 international trip and I'm,
00:16:08 --> 00:16:09 I actually just left the
00:16:09 --> 00:16:10 suitcase open and pulled
00:16:10 --> 00:16:11 out the essentials cause
00:16:11 --> 00:16:13 I'm packing it back up again in a week.
00:16:15 --> 00:16:16 But it'll be great.
00:16:16 --> 00:16:17 And I went to the iPhone
00:16:17 --> 00:16:18 conference in Glasgow,
00:16:19 --> 00:16:21 which was... Were you there, Derek?
00:16:21 --> 00:16:23 No, but I was looking at that.
00:16:23 --> 00:16:24 Wasn't that like seven years ago,
00:16:24 --> 00:16:25 eight years ago now?
00:16:25 --> 00:16:27 Because we had a COVID break.
00:16:27 --> 00:16:29 I can't remember the exact year,
00:16:29 --> 00:16:31 but it was really interesting.
00:16:31 --> 00:16:32 I think one of the things I enjoy about it,
00:16:32 --> 00:16:33 and hopefully we can bring
00:16:33 --> 00:16:34 some of this back to...
00:16:35 --> 00:16:37 the podcast is just learning
00:16:37 --> 00:16:38 about what's happening in other countries,
00:16:39 --> 00:16:40 what's current, what's contemporary.
00:16:40 --> 00:16:42 And also what I think is
00:16:42 --> 00:16:44 important is learning how
00:16:44 --> 00:16:45 to kind of cater to
00:16:45 --> 00:16:47 different populations of people.
00:16:47 --> 00:16:48 So we'll be privy to
00:16:48 --> 00:16:50 presentations from people
00:16:50 --> 00:16:52 representing countries all
00:16:52 --> 00:16:53 over the world.
00:16:53 --> 00:16:54 And it's just really
00:16:54 --> 00:16:56 fascinating to hear how
00:16:56 --> 00:16:58 manual therapy is slightly
00:16:58 --> 00:17:01 different or it's modified
00:17:01 --> 00:17:03 and what ideas come from
00:17:03 --> 00:17:04 not just researchers,
00:17:04 --> 00:17:06 but clinicians in other countries.
00:17:06 --> 00:17:07 And so I'm excited to bring
00:17:07 --> 00:17:08 some of that back.
00:17:08 --> 00:17:08 And, you know,
00:17:08 --> 00:17:10 maybe there's some speakers that we're,
00:17:11 --> 00:17:11 you know,
00:17:11 --> 00:17:14 lucky enough to hear at iPhone
00:17:14 --> 00:17:14 so that we can think about
00:17:14 --> 00:17:16 bringing to the podcast.
00:17:16 --> 00:17:17 So I think we're also there
00:17:17 --> 00:17:17 on a little bit of a
00:17:17 --> 00:17:19 fact-finding mission to
00:17:19 --> 00:17:20 bring some really cool
00:17:20 --> 00:17:21 information back to our
00:17:21 --> 00:17:23 membership and our listeners.
00:17:23 --> 00:17:24 So I'm excited about that too.
00:17:25 --> 00:17:26 So it's not just backfinding.
00:17:26 --> 00:17:28 I can speak specifically,
00:17:28 --> 00:17:30 we are getting mics and
00:17:30 --> 00:17:31 Derek and I have to figure
00:17:31 --> 00:17:32 out how to use these mics
00:17:33 --> 00:17:33 and we are going to go
00:17:33 --> 00:17:36 navigate wherever we are to
00:17:36 --> 00:17:37 go and have live
00:17:37 --> 00:17:39 conversations and bring it back.
00:17:39 --> 00:17:41 So like, well, we're going all in on this.
00:17:42 --> 00:17:43 Yeah, we're all in.
00:17:43 --> 00:17:45 I hope I don't get in the
00:17:45 --> 00:17:46 security lines and customs
00:17:46 --> 00:17:48 and they think that I'm some spy.
00:17:48 --> 00:17:51 Um, if you don't see me ever again,
00:17:51 --> 00:17:52 somebody thought I was a spy.
00:17:52 --> 00:17:54 And so obviously with my
00:17:54 --> 00:17:55 mics or whatever else is be in my bag,
00:17:55 --> 00:17:56 but Amy,
00:17:57 --> 00:17:58 We're not on a fact-finding.
00:17:58 --> 00:17:59 We're going to find him and
00:17:59 --> 00:18:01 we're going to interview him.
00:18:01 --> 00:18:03 Real live time.
00:18:03 --> 00:18:04 It's an implementation prep.
00:18:05 --> 00:18:05 That's right.
00:18:06 --> 00:18:08 They are little creepy mics.
00:18:08 --> 00:18:09 I think they're little fuzzy
00:18:09 --> 00:18:10 feathered mics that we're
00:18:10 --> 00:18:11 supposed to wear on our
00:18:11 --> 00:18:13 shirts and I think talk to
00:18:14 --> 00:18:16 people and get information.
00:18:16 --> 00:18:17 I kind of think I'm a spy.
00:18:17 --> 00:18:18 You look like a spy.
00:18:19 --> 00:18:21 So Derek, what...
00:18:24 --> 00:18:26 What are some of the, Derek and Megan,
00:18:26 --> 00:18:29 what are some of the ideas
00:18:29 --> 00:18:29 that we want to share with
00:18:30 --> 00:18:30 listeners about some of the
00:18:30 --> 00:18:31 speakers that we might be
00:18:31 --> 00:18:33 bringing forward in the
00:18:33 --> 00:18:36 next part of 2024?
00:18:36 --> 00:18:39 Do we want to talk about any
00:18:39 --> 00:18:41 categories of things we're
00:18:41 --> 00:18:42 going to be talking about?
00:18:42 --> 00:18:43 Or maybe what are some of
00:18:43 --> 00:18:45 our goals in terms of
00:18:46 --> 00:18:47 engaging with different speakers?
00:18:47 --> 00:18:48 I know we talked a little
00:18:48 --> 00:18:49 bit about that already,
00:18:49 --> 00:18:50 but what do we want to
00:18:50 --> 00:18:51 share with people without
00:18:53 --> 00:18:54 know totally spoiling
00:18:54 --> 00:18:56 spoiling it well I'll give
00:18:56 --> 00:18:57 big categories kind of like
00:18:57 --> 00:18:59 the big overarching thing
00:18:59 --> 00:19:00 so like in our in our
00:19:00 --> 00:19:01 strategic plan right we
00:19:01 --> 00:19:03 have key enablers that kind
00:19:03 --> 00:19:04 of make everything work
00:19:04 --> 00:19:05 that we do um and when we
00:19:05 --> 00:19:06 think about that it's
00:19:06 --> 00:19:08 leadership it's education
00:19:08 --> 00:19:09 and it's advocacy and I
00:19:09 --> 00:19:11 would almost suggest you
00:19:11 --> 00:19:12 know the research piece in
00:19:12 --> 00:19:14 that kind of transcends it
00:19:14 --> 00:19:15 kind of goes across
00:19:15 --> 00:19:16 multiple like it could be
00:19:16 --> 00:19:17 an educational piece right
00:19:17 --> 00:19:18 just how the clinical
00:19:18 --> 00:19:19 pearls and those kind of things
00:19:20 --> 00:19:20 But really,
00:19:20 --> 00:19:22 those are the three big overarching aims.
00:19:22 --> 00:19:23 Like, right,
00:19:23 --> 00:19:24 we're trying to lead and grow
00:19:24 --> 00:19:26 as an organization and be
00:19:26 --> 00:19:27 the front leader.
00:19:27 --> 00:19:28 In order to do that,
00:19:28 --> 00:19:29 we have to have enriched
00:19:29 --> 00:19:31 membership that just really
00:19:31 --> 00:19:31 feel connected.
00:19:32 --> 00:19:33 And with these speakers,
00:19:33 --> 00:19:34 we feel that that will happen.
00:19:35 --> 00:19:36 You know, from an other perspective,
00:19:36 --> 00:19:38 which is the education side, I mean,
00:19:38 --> 00:19:40 I think we have great topics, right?
00:19:40 --> 00:19:42 Pertinent topics about manual therapy,
00:19:42 --> 00:19:44 integrating manual therapy across,
00:19:44 --> 00:19:46 you know, multiple populations,
00:19:46 --> 00:19:48 whether I even saw some of the lists like
00:19:48 --> 00:19:49 We were thinking about,
00:19:49 --> 00:19:50 do we bring some pelvic health in here?
00:19:50 --> 00:19:51 Women's health, right?
00:19:51 --> 00:19:53 So some of those pieces and
00:19:53 --> 00:19:55 topics would have a really nice platform,
00:19:55 --> 00:19:57 which is just contemporary practice.
00:19:57 --> 00:19:59 And then the last is advocacy.
00:19:59 --> 00:20:00 And I have to say guys,
00:20:01 --> 00:20:02 the more I'm at the main
00:20:02 --> 00:20:03 level of leadership and
00:20:03 --> 00:20:05 interfacing both nationally
00:20:05 --> 00:20:06 and internationally,
00:20:06 --> 00:20:08 we have to be an advocate
00:20:08 --> 00:20:09 for the science and the
00:20:09 --> 00:20:10 practice of manual therapy.
00:20:10 --> 00:20:11 We have to,
00:20:11 --> 00:20:13 and this is the platform that
00:20:13 --> 00:20:14 it has to be at because
00:20:15 --> 00:20:17 not just on our conference, which is these,
00:20:17 --> 00:20:17 you know,
00:20:17 --> 00:20:19 days together and we feel so
00:20:19 --> 00:20:19 good because we're all
00:20:19 --> 00:20:21 together and it's a little
00:20:21 --> 00:20:22 bit kumbaya to be honest, right?
00:20:22 --> 00:20:23 It's our family,
00:20:23 --> 00:20:25 but it's when we leave each other,
00:20:25 --> 00:20:26 how do we keep the synergy
00:20:26 --> 00:20:27 and how do we keep
00:20:27 --> 00:20:28 advancing the profession?
00:20:28 --> 00:20:30 And, you know, Twitter's got a place,
00:20:30 --> 00:20:31 all the other social media
00:20:31 --> 00:20:32 things have a place,
00:20:33 --> 00:20:33 but how do we stay
00:20:34 --> 00:20:34 connected where we can
00:20:34 --> 00:20:36 follow thought leaders more
00:20:36 --> 00:20:38 than in a snippet that can
00:20:38 --> 00:20:39 be misinterpreted, right?
00:20:39 --> 00:20:40 I mean, more than something,
00:20:41 --> 00:20:42 This is a great forum for that.
00:20:42 --> 00:20:43 So we've aligned some of
00:20:43 --> 00:20:45 those speakers on those categories.
00:20:46 --> 00:20:47 And so I'm excited about that.
00:20:48 --> 00:20:48 I love that.
00:20:49 --> 00:20:49 Yeah.
00:20:49 --> 00:20:51 And to jump in there,
00:20:51 --> 00:20:52 I'm also excited that,
00:20:52 --> 00:20:54 I don't know if we've mentioned this,
00:20:54 --> 00:20:57 but a lot of this, Megan, Amy, and I,
00:20:57 --> 00:20:59 at least I'll speak for me,
00:20:59 --> 00:21:01 I don't know a whole lot
00:21:01 --> 00:21:02 about podcasting.
00:21:03 --> 00:21:04 We launched the hands-on,
00:21:04 --> 00:21:05 hands-off podcast,
00:21:05 --> 00:21:06 and I think we've done an
00:21:06 --> 00:21:07 okay job with that.
00:21:07 --> 00:21:09 But we have brought in Jimmy
00:21:09 --> 00:21:12 McKay and his team to help us with this.
00:21:12 --> 00:21:13 And I think that that is
00:21:13 --> 00:21:15 what I am most excited
00:21:15 --> 00:21:17 about because I think he's
00:21:17 --> 00:21:19 going to really supercharge
00:21:19 --> 00:21:21 what we're going to do and
00:21:21 --> 00:21:23 really help us bring something that's,
00:21:24 --> 00:21:25 you know, a little bit more
00:21:26 --> 00:21:27 more exciting, a little bit different.
00:21:27 --> 00:21:28 And actually before we even
00:21:28 --> 00:21:30 got on and started recording this show,
00:21:30 --> 00:21:31 we were having all kinds of
00:21:31 --> 00:21:32 fun playing around with the
00:21:32 --> 00:21:33 stream yard thing that
00:21:33 --> 00:21:34 we're working with.
00:21:34 --> 00:21:37 And I think that's all part
00:21:37 --> 00:21:40 of the fun of us learning
00:21:40 --> 00:21:42 how to better engage and
00:21:42 --> 00:21:43 interact with some of these
00:21:43 --> 00:21:45 people that we're going to be bringing on,
00:21:45 --> 00:21:46 because I'm sure that we've
00:21:46 --> 00:21:47 all heard podcasts.
00:21:48 --> 00:21:48 It doesn't matter how great
00:21:48 --> 00:21:49 the guests can be.
00:21:50 --> 00:21:51 if we're not doing a good
00:21:51 --> 00:21:53 job of engaging that individual,
00:21:53 --> 00:21:54 then it may not be
00:21:54 --> 00:21:55 pertinent to the listener.
00:21:56 --> 00:21:56 So I think that's going to
00:21:56 --> 00:21:58 be a fun and exciting thing.
00:21:58 --> 00:21:58 And just, you know,
00:21:59 --> 00:22:00 your question about like
00:22:00 --> 00:22:01 what kinds of topics and
00:22:01 --> 00:22:02 things that we're going to
00:22:02 --> 00:22:03 be bringing in.
00:22:03 --> 00:22:03 I mean,
00:22:03 --> 00:22:05 I'm just looking down some of the
00:22:05 --> 00:22:06 lineups here, you know,
00:22:06 --> 00:22:09 just talking about everything from,
00:22:10 --> 00:22:12 you know, careers in manual therapy.
00:22:13 --> 00:22:14 To Megan's point,
00:22:14 --> 00:22:15 some of the more
00:22:15 --> 00:22:17 interesting things where
00:22:17 --> 00:22:19 manual therapy can be put
00:22:19 --> 00:22:20 into manual therapy and
00:22:20 --> 00:22:22 sports manual therapy and pediatrics,
00:22:22 --> 00:22:25 other sorts of approaches, and then,
00:22:25 --> 00:22:26 you know,
00:22:26 --> 00:22:27 myth busting and all kinds of
00:22:27 --> 00:22:29 fun things that I think
00:22:29 --> 00:22:29 we'll be able to do.
00:22:29 --> 00:22:32 And, you know, from there, you know,
00:22:33 --> 00:22:35 selecting the right guest for that.
00:22:35 --> 00:22:36 But then I also think too,
00:22:36 --> 00:22:38 we'll also have guests who
00:22:39 --> 00:22:42 will probably let us evolve
00:22:42 --> 00:22:43 a little bit of what we're
00:22:43 --> 00:22:44 talking about in addition to that.
00:22:44 --> 00:22:45 That's one of the things
00:22:45 --> 00:22:47 that we did at the Centers
00:22:47 --> 00:22:48 for Excellence in Manual
00:22:48 --> 00:22:49 Manipulative Therapy.
00:22:49 --> 00:22:50 And I don't think it worked
00:22:50 --> 00:22:51 as well as it's going to,
00:22:51 --> 00:22:52 because I think we're going
00:22:52 --> 00:22:54 to get some good advice on from Jimmy,
00:22:54 --> 00:22:55 but having some themes,
00:22:55 --> 00:22:57 but obviously we need to have, you know,
00:22:57 --> 00:22:57 some big
00:22:57 --> 00:22:58 some big stars we're gonna
00:22:58 --> 00:22:59 have a lot of heavy hitters
00:22:59 --> 00:23:01 I think you know with the
00:23:01 --> 00:23:03 international opportunities
00:23:03 --> 00:23:03 and all of the
00:23:03 --> 00:23:04 international people that
00:23:04 --> 00:23:06 Amy will interview at 2 a.m
00:23:07 --> 00:23:08 we'll have some really good
00:23:08 --> 00:23:09 some really good guests as
00:23:09 --> 00:23:13 well and I love the
00:23:13 --> 00:23:14 platform with that because
00:23:14 --> 00:23:15 if you know Jimmy which
00:23:15 --> 00:23:16 right he's got that just
00:23:16 --> 00:23:17 that personality and that
00:23:18 --> 00:23:19 kind of get to know you
00:23:19 --> 00:23:20 person type and I love that
00:23:20 --> 00:23:21 about him and I think
00:23:21 --> 00:23:22 that's really nice about
00:23:22 --> 00:23:24 this platform too is that
00:23:24 --> 00:23:25 we can get to know each
00:23:25 --> 00:23:25 other a little bit
00:23:25 --> 00:23:27 differently just you know what
00:23:28 --> 00:23:29 what about them makes them a
00:23:29 --> 00:23:30 little more unique, right?
00:23:30 --> 00:23:32 Rather than just, oh,
00:23:32 --> 00:23:32 they're a researcher.
00:23:32 --> 00:23:33 Oh, they do that.
00:23:33 --> 00:23:35 Or, oh, I'm my bio, right?
00:23:35 --> 00:23:35 Like that's,
00:23:35 --> 00:23:37 I'm so much bigger than that
00:23:37 --> 00:23:37 and different than that.
00:23:37 --> 00:23:38 That's not even half the
00:23:38 --> 00:23:40 things that I want to talk about, right?
00:23:40 --> 00:23:42 But it is who it makes,
00:23:42 --> 00:23:44 it makes part of you, right?
00:23:44 --> 00:23:45 And so I'm looking forward
00:23:45 --> 00:23:46 to getting to know a little bit more
00:23:47 --> 00:23:48 about the people that we're
00:23:48 --> 00:23:49 going to speak to and, and, um,
00:23:50 --> 00:23:52 listening about their experiences, right.
00:23:52 --> 00:23:52 And,
00:23:52 --> 00:23:55 and what learned lessons our audience
00:23:55 --> 00:23:55 can learn from them,
00:23:56 --> 00:23:57 because like I learned so
00:23:57 --> 00:24:00 much by learning from others and honestly,
00:24:00 --> 00:24:01 the things that they wish
00:24:01 --> 00:24:02 they wouldn't have done or
00:24:02 --> 00:24:02 the things that they think
00:24:02 --> 00:24:03 they should have done better.
00:24:03 --> 00:24:05 Um, and that's a,
00:24:05 --> 00:24:06 it's a great space for us
00:24:06 --> 00:24:07 to engage in that too.
00:24:07 --> 00:24:09 I think they're kind of like the, you know,
00:24:09 --> 00:24:10 you brought this to conference.
00:24:11 --> 00:24:12 the PTI talks,
00:24:13 --> 00:24:15 I always loved those just
00:24:15 --> 00:24:18 because they allow people
00:24:18 --> 00:24:21 to get into somebody's life
00:24:21 --> 00:24:22 a little bit differently
00:24:22 --> 00:24:25 than just here's the
00:24:25 --> 00:24:26 research path that we took.
00:24:26 --> 00:24:27 And then it seems almost
00:24:27 --> 00:24:29 untouchable to a lot of folks.
00:24:29 --> 00:24:30 I think when people see that
00:24:32 --> 00:24:34 their journeys involve a lot of other
00:24:35 --> 00:24:36 very important parts of their lives,
00:24:37 --> 00:24:38 their families, their hobbies,
00:24:38 --> 00:24:39 and things like that.
00:24:39 --> 00:24:40 I think that that also makes
00:24:40 --> 00:24:41 it really fun and interesting.
00:24:41 --> 00:24:42 At least I think so.
00:24:43 --> 00:24:43 Yeah.
00:24:43 --> 00:24:43 Great.
00:24:44 --> 00:24:44 Hey, Derek,
00:24:44 --> 00:24:46 do you want to tell people a
00:24:46 --> 00:24:49 little bit about the hands-off, hands-on?
00:24:49 --> 00:24:51 Are we hands-on, hands-off, or hands-off,
00:24:51 --> 00:24:51 hands-off?
00:24:51 --> 00:24:52 Hands-on, hands-off.
00:24:52 --> 00:24:53 Hands-on first.
00:24:54 --> 00:24:54 There's a reason.
00:24:54 --> 00:24:55 Hands-on first, right.
00:24:56 --> 00:24:57 And then pull away.
00:24:57 --> 00:24:57 Yeah, all right.
00:24:57 --> 00:24:58 That makes sense.
00:24:59 --> 00:24:59 We're good.
00:25:00 --> 00:25:00 No,
00:25:00 --> 00:25:01 but I think it would be good to tell
00:25:01 --> 00:25:02 people a little bit about
00:25:03 --> 00:25:04 what's in a name.
00:25:05 --> 00:25:06 Yeah, no, that's a good.
00:25:07 --> 00:25:07 Well, gosh,
00:25:07 --> 00:25:09 we were going around and around
00:25:09 --> 00:25:11 and around about a name, weren't we?
00:25:11 --> 00:25:14 And I think when we when we
00:25:14 --> 00:25:15 had the hands on hands off
00:25:15 --> 00:25:16 podcast and when we were
00:25:16 --> 00:25:17 starting to talk about our
00:25:17 --> 00:25:19 name or talk about the strategic plan,
00:25:19 --> 00:25:20 I'm like, wait a minute,
00:25:20 --> 00:25:22 we're going to be saying the same thing.
00:25:22 --> 00:25:23 We're trying to do the same
00:25:23 --> 00:25:24 thing and we're speaking in parallel.
00:25:25 --> 00:25:26 So why don't we just put all
00:25:26 --> 00:25:27 of the energy into one thing?
00:25:28 --> 00:25:30 And so Hands on Hands Off
00:25:30 --> 00:25:31 podcast really was
00:25:32 --> 00:25:33 identified as a good name
00:25:33 --> 00:25:36 within the CMET because I
00:25:37 --> 00:25:38 think there's a lot of
00:25:39 --> 00:25:41 misinformation about manual therapy.
00:25:41 --> 00:25:43 And it drives me crazy
00:25:43 --> 00:25:44 sometimes when you see
00:25:44 --> 00:25:45 things about the misinformation.
00:25:45 --> 00:25:47 And it's a type of manual
00:25:47 --> 00:25:48 therapy that we would all
00:25:48 --> 00:25:49 probably agree maybe is wrong.
00:25:50 --> 00:25:51 is not necessarily the most appropriate.
00:25:52 --> 00:25:53 And so hands-on means that
00:25:53 --> 00:25:56 there is time that yes,
00:25:56 --> 00:25:58 that it is necessary to put
00:25:58 --> 00:25:59 our hands on patients.
00:26:00 --> 00:26:00 Um,
00:26:00 --> 00:26:03 but then there's also this component of
00:26:03 --> 00:26:05 manual therapy that, you know,
00:26:05 --> 00:26:07 we also don't need to put
00:26:07 --> 00:26:10 our hands on the patient to be effective.
00:26:10 --> 00:26:11 And, and I think that's one of the things,
00:26:12 --> 00:26:13 at least in my fellowship,
00:26:13 --> 00:26:13 when I talked through,
00:26:13 --> 00:26:15 talked to a lot of people
00:26:15 --> 00:26:16 who have gone through
00:26:16 --> 00:26:17 fellowship training,
00:26:17 --> 00:26:18 is that one of the things
00:26:19 --> 00:26:19 that they learn through
00:26:19 --> 00:26:20 fellowship training is more
00:26:20 --> 00:26:23 about when to put your
00:26:23 --> 00:26:25 hands on and when to take your hands off,
00:26:25 --> 00:26:25 right?
00:26:25 --> 00:26:26 And more often than not,
00:26:26 --> 00:26:28 you are taking your hands off,
00:26:29 --> 00:26:30 but you're still using and
00:26:30 --> 00:26:31 you're still effective with it.
00:26:31 --> 00:26:33 And so that's, I think,
00:26:33 --> 00:26:35 the idea behind the name is
00:26:35 --> 00:26:37 that manual therapists will
00:26:38 --> 00:26:40 put their hands on patients, but
00:26:40 --> 00:26:42 they will also spend a lot of their time.
00:26:42 --> 00:26:42 In fact,
00:26:42 --> 00:26:43 probably the majority of their
00:26:43 --> 00:26:45 time with their hands off of the patients,
00:26:45 --> 00:26:46 right.
00:26:46 --> 00:26:47 Doing all kinds of other things.
00:26:47 --> 00:26:49 And a part of that reasoning
00:26:50 --> 00:26:51 of going into when you put your hands on,
00:26:52 --> 00:26:52 when you take your hands
00:26:53 --> 00:26:54 off is part of the journey
00:26:54 --> 00:26:55 that we have all, um,
00:26:56 --> 00:26:57 evolved in and have grown
00:26:58 --> 00:26:58 through through our
00:26:59 --> 00:27:01 respective um programs and
00:27:01 --> 00:27:01 I think that that's
00:27:01 --> 00:27:02 something that we would all
00:27:02 --> 00:27:03 agree on so I think that
00:27:03 --> 00:27:04 that hands-on hands-off
00:27:05 --> 00:27:06 podcast name was very
00:27:07 --> 00:27:08 intentional because we
00:27:08 --> 00:27:09 wanted to make sure that
00:27:09 --> 00:27:10 there was times where we
00:27:10 --> 00:27:11 said yes it's appropriate
00:27:11 --> 00:27:12 for hands-on and then
00:27:12 --> 00:27:13 there's also times when
00:27:13 --> 00:27:14 it's appropriate that it
00:27:14 --> 00:27:16 may not be for yeah and I
00:27:16 --> 00:27:17 like that I think some of
00:27:17 --> 00:27:18 the misinformation out
00:27:18 --> 00:27:20 there is that we only do one thing
00:27:21 --> 00:27:22 know or that we we condone
00:27:22 --> 00:27:23 just just this one
00:27:23 --> 00:27:24 intervention which couldn't
00:27:24 --> 00:27:25 be further from the truth
00:27:25 --> 00:27:27 so I i love hearing you
00:27:27 --> 00:27:28 unpack that a little bit
00:27:28 --> 00:27:30 because I think you know
00:27:30 --> 00:27:31 we're also trying to um
00:27:32 --> 00:27:34 just improve our our
00:27:34 --> 00:27:35 branding or people's
00:27:35 --> 00:27:36 perception of what it is
00:27:36 --> 00:27:37 that we actually do and a
00:27:37 --> 00:27:38 huge component of that is
00:27:39 --> 00:27:40 therapeutic alliance and
00:27:40 --> 00:27:41 shared decision making
00:27:41 --> 00:27:42 motivational interviewing
00:27:42 --> 00:27:43 um you know all those other
00:27:44 --> 00:27:45 things that really are a
00:27:45 --> 00:27:46 hands-off component so
00:27:46 --> 00:27:47 thanks for giving us a
00:27:47 --> 00:27:48 little bit more of an explanation of that
00:27:49 --> 00:27:50 And I think that we've put
00:27:50 --> 00:27:52 that in those lineups too, right?
00:27:52 --> 00:27:53 How does that work in the
00:27:53 --> 00:27:55 building those relationships and,
00:27:55 --> 00:27:56 and person-centered care or
00:27:56 --> 00:27:57 patient-centered care?
00:27:57 --> 00:27:57 I mean,
00:27:58 --> 00:27:59 All of those components
00:27:59 --> 00:28:00 center around the patient.
00:28:00 --> 00:28:01 I mean, so,
00:28:01 --> 00:28:03 and sometimes patient preferences, right?
00:28:03 --> 00:28:03 I mean,
00:28:03 --> 00:28:05 if they think that that's something
00:28:05 --> 00:28:05 that's going to get them
00:28:05 --> 00:28:07 better and that's what
00:28:07 --> 00:28:07 they're looking for,
00:28:08 --> 00:28:10 then that's a great place to start.
00:28:10 --> 00:28:11 But then obviously usually
00:28:11 --> 00:28:12 reasoning and moving on.
00:28:12 --> 00:28:14 And I think the lineup helps
00:28:14 --> 00:28:15 us really kind of just
00:28:15 --> 00:28:17 convey the flexibility of a
00:28:17 --> 00:28:19 manual therapist who's gone through,
00:28:19 --> 00:28:20 especially for fellowship training.
00:28:20 --> 00:28:21 But it's not to say that
00:28:21 --> 00:28:22 fellowship training is the only thing.
00:28:23 --> 00:28:25 I just think it's a style, right?
00:28:25 --> 00:28:26 It's the way that our
00:28:26 --> 00:28:28 organization feels that manual therapy,
00:28:28 --> 00:28:30 when done at the highest level,
00:28:31 --> 00:28:33 it really integrates all of
00:28:33 --> 00:28:34 the pyramid or all of the
00:28:35 --> 00:28:37 stools or all the legs of
00:28:37 --> 00:28:39 the stool in order to
00:28:39 --> 00:28:40 really integrate it for the
00:28:40 --> 00:28:41 best outcome for the patient.
00:28:41 --> 00:28:43 And I think that's really important.
00:28:46 --> 00:28:46 Well said.
00:28:49 --> 00:28:51 know really derek is is the
00:28:51 --> 00:28:52 one doing it I'm just
00:28:52 --> 00:28:53 summarizing and you already
00:28:53 --> 00:28:54 obviously hit it too so
00:28:55 --> 00:28:56 three this is why we should
00:28:56 --> 00:28:57 just do all three together
00:28:57 --> 00:28:59 so derek needs to be pulled
00:28:59 --> 00:29:00 into these international
00:29:00 --> 00:29:02 3am meetings as well but
00:29:02 --> 00:29:03 he's probably running a
00:29:03 --> 00:29:04 track somewhere chasing his
00:29:05 --> 00:29:06 stellar kit I mean that's
00:29:06 --> 00:29:07 probably what's really
00:29:07 --> 00:29:11 happening there so no no
00:29:11 --> 00:29:12 I'm getting too old for
00:29:12 --> 00:29:14 those 3am runs it's like that that
00:29:15 --> 00:29:17 the knee arthritis starts to
00:29:17 --> 00:29:18 kick in I gotta grease the
00:29:18 --> 00:29:19 skis a little before I get
00:29:19 --> 00:29:25 running so well tell me this
00:29:26 --> 00:29:28 What do we get to think
00:29:28 --> 00:29:30 about in what's coming up
00:29:30 --> 00:29:32 in Orlando that you're most
00:29:32 --> 00:29:34 excited about for our own conference,
00:29:34 --> 00:29:34 right?
00:29:34 --> 00:29:36 Like we're not that far away.
00:29:36 --> 00:29:38 And Derek, things are opening up soon,
00:29:38 --> 00:29:38 right?
00:29:38 --> 00:29:40 Like, I mean, registration's starting up.
00:29:40 --> 00:29:41 I mean,
00:29:41 --> 00:29:42 we should do a whole show just on that.
00:29:42 --> 00:29:43 But just give me a little snippet,
00:29:44 --> 00:29:44 little snippet.
00:29:45 --> 00:29:46 What do you think is like
00:29:46 --> 00:29:47 the most exciting or what
00:29:47 --> 00:29:48 are you most excited about?
00:29:48 --> 00:29:49 Well,
00:29:49 --> 00:29:52 obviously when this podcast gets released,
00:29:53 --> 00:29:53 it's open.
00:29:53 --> 00:29:54 Registration is open.
00:29:54 --> 00:29:55 It's actually,
00:29:55 --> 00:29:55 you can go on the website
00:29:55 --> 00:29:56 and you can register.
00:29:57 --> 00:30:00 So we are super excited.
00:30:00 --> 00:30:02 One, we're in a really cool location.
00:30:02 --> 00:30:04 We're in Orlando.
00:30:04 --> 00:30:06 We're a really nice facility.
00:30:06 --> 00:30:07 The facility is exactly the
00:30:07 --> 00:30:09 type of facility that we want to be in.
00:30:10 --> 00:30:11 What I think AAMP does really well.
00:30:11 --> 00:30:12 And in those,
00:30:12 --> 00:30:14 those kind of spaces where
00:30:14 --> 00:30:15 everybody is together,
00:30:15 --> 00:30:16 like we're all in the same
00:30:16 --> 00:30:17 house together.
00:30:17 --> 00:30:19 And this is, it's a really nice space.
00:30:20 --> 00:30:21 You know, if you get a chance,
00:30:22 --> 00:30:24 book your room, the rate is amazing,
00:30:24 --> 00:30:25 you know, that kind of thing.
00:30:25 --> 00:30:27 So, so, so take time to come down.
00:30:27 --> 00:30:28 I think one of the things
00:30:28 --> 00:30:29 that I love about conferencing,
00:30:29 --> 00:30:31 especially because we're just, you know,
00:30:31 --> 00:30:33 we were pulling out now of a pandemic.
00:30:33 --> 00:30:34 we're all getting an
00:30:34 --> 00:30:36 opportunity to come back together.
00:30:36 --> 00:30:37 And it just shows and it proves how
00:30:38 --> 00:30:40 essential and how important
00:30:40 --> 00:30:42 it is for us to be together
00:30:42 --> 00:30:44 and so having a space like
00:30:44 --> 00:30:44 we're going to have is
00:30:44 --> 00:30:45 going to be absolutely
00:30:45 --> 00:30:46 incredible I've looked at
00:30:46 --> 00:30:47 pictures of it it's it's
00:30:48 --> 00:30:50 it's it's top top flight
00:30:50 --> 00:30:51 and we actually just
00:30:51 --> 00:30:52 surveyed our membership and
00:30:52 --> 00:30:53 one of the things that we
00:30:53 --> 00:30:55 realized is that location
00:30:55 --> 00:30:56 matters um for our
00:30:56 --> 00:30:58 conference um the zip code
00:30:58 --> 00:30:59 actually does matter
00:31:00 --> 00:31:01 obviously the convenience
00:31:01 --> 00:31:02 of the airport and so I
00:31:02 --> 00:31:03 think this checks a lot of those boxes
00:31:04 --> 00:31:05 Beyond that,
00:31:05 --> 00:31:07 what we're super excited about is,
00:31:07 --> 00:31:08 and I think the thing that
00:31:08 --> 00:31:09 I was most nervous about
00:31:09 --> 00:31:11 when I took over from the
00:31:11 --> 00:31:13 previous conference chair
00:31:13 --> 00:31:16 who set the bar incredibly high,
00:31:16 --> 00:31:17 I'm just hoping I don't
00:31:17 --> 00:31:18 knock it off too hard,
00:31:19 --> 00:31:23 is obviously the level of
00:31:23 --> 00:31:25 keynote presenters.
00:31:25 --> 00:31:30 And this year was, and then Megan,
00:31:30 --> 00:31:31 I'm pretty sure that you always felt this,
00:31:32 --> 00:31:32 where you started to get a
00:31:32 --> 00:31:33 little stressed out, like,
00:31:33 --> 00:31:34 am I going to get, am I going to get?
00:31:34 --> 00:31:37 But we ended up getting three really,
00:31:37 --> 00:31:39 really good, actually I should say four,
00:31:39 --> 00:31:42 but three keynote presenters.
00:31:42 --> 00:31:44 You know, Jeremy Lewis,
00:31:44 --> 00:31:46 if you work anything with the shoulder,
00:31:46 --> 00:31:47 you know who Jeremy Lewis is.
00:31:47 --> 00:31:47 I mean,
00:31:47 --> 00:31:49 he is going to be somebody I think that,
00:31:50 --> 00:31:50 and to be honest with you,
00:31:50 --> 00:31:52 we had him on our Hands On
00:31:52 --> 00:31:53 Hands Off podcast
00:31:54 --> 00:31:55 which is how I ended up
00:31:55 --> 00:31:57 connecting with him to get
00:31:57 --> 00:31:58 him to come to conference.
00:31:58 --> 00:31:59 Because after I interviewed
00:32:00 --> 00:32:01 him for the podcast, I was like,
00:32:02 --> 00:32:03 this guy has to come to conference.
00:32:04 --> 00:32:06 So inspiring, so motivating,
00:32:07 --> 00:32:10 such an incredible, I think a very,
00:32:11 --> 00:32:11 he will be a lot of fun.
00:32:12 --> 00:32:13 He's going to be a lot of fun.
00:32:13 --> 00:32:14 People are going to really enjoy that hour,
00:32:14 --> 00:32:16 hour and a half of his talk.
00:32:20 --> 00:32:20 Nathan Hutting,
00:32:20 --> 00:32:23 he's a friend of ours within AOMT.
00:32:23 --> 00:32:25 He has come to AOMT before.
00:32:26 --> 00:32:27 He's a huge supporter of what we do.
00:32:27 --> 00:32:28 He's a huge supporter of
00:32:28 --> 00:32:29 manual therapy on the
00:32:29 --> 00:32:31 international stage and
00:32:32 --> 00:32:34 specifically to neck pain management.
00:32:34 --> 00:32:37 And so I'm super thrilled
00:32:37 --> 00:32:38 that when we asked him if he would be,
00:32:38 --> 00:32:39 he was just like,
00:32:40 --> 00:32:41 I've been waiting for you to ask me.
00:32:41 --> 00:32:42 Wow.
00:32:43 --> 00:32:44 So happy to have him.
00:32:44 --> 00:32:46 And then Sarah Piva,
00:32:47 --> 00:32:48 obviously a very
00:32:49 --> 00:32:51 established researcher with UPMC,
00:32:53 --> 00:32:54 And she is interesting.
00:32:54 --> 00:32:55 She does a lot of work with
00:32:55 --> 00:32:57 knee and knee OA right now,
00:32:57 --> 00:33:00 but she's kind of previous to knee.
00:33:00 --> 00:33:01 She worked a lot with low
00:33:01 --> 00:33:01 back pain and now she's
00:33:01 --> 00:33:03 kind of moving back toward low back pain.
00:33:04 --> 00:33:06 But in our conversation, she was like,
00:33:06 --> 00:33:08 I was once a manual therapy fellow,
00:33:08 --> 00:33:09 but I let it lapse.
00:33:09 --> 00:33:10 And then we were like, no, wait,
00:33:11 --> 00:33:11 you don't have to worry
00:33:11 --> 00:33:13 about that because we don't
00:33:13 --> 00:33:14 have the 10 year rule.
00:33:14 --> 00:33:15 And so I think we're even
00:33:15 --> 00:33:18 able to bring her back in to the fold,
00:33:18 --> 00:33:19 but she comes with a
00:33:20 --> 00:33:23 a surprising background in manual therapy.
00:33:23 --> 00:33:24 I didn't realize that when I
00:33:24 --> 00:33:25 started to reach out to her
00:33:25 --> 00:33:25 and then we started to have
00:33:25 --> 00:33:26 some conversations.
00:33:26 --> 00:33:27 So it goes to show how like
00:33:28 --> 00:33:30 Aon can jumpstart so many
00:33:30 --> 00:33:31 people's careers into so
00:33:31 --> 00:33:31 many different directions.
00:33:32 --> 00:33:32 Yeah.
00:33:33 --> 00:33:34 She'll bring a lot into that.
00:33:34 --> 00:33:36 And then Roger Chow, I mean,
00:33:37 --> 00:33:39 This is going to be an incredible, um,
00:33:40 --> 00:33:43 you know, distinguished lecturer, uh,
00:33:43 --> 00:33:44 ask for a better lecture.
00:33:44 --> 00:33:45 He's going to be our first
00:33:45 --> 00:33:48 non physical therapist as a, uh,
00:33:48 --> 00:33:49 distinguished lecturer,
00:33:49 --> 00:33:51 but he is somebody who probably,
00:33:51 --> 00:33:52 if you look at the research line,
00:33:53 --> 00:33:53 a lot of the things that
00:33:53 --> 00:33:55 come back to conservative
00:33:55 --> 00:33:57 management for low back pain is, you know,
00:33:57 --> 00:34:00 probably one of, if not the most arguable,
00:34:01 --> 00:34:01 um,
00:34:02 --> 00:34:03 persons who's really sort of
00:34:03 --> 00:34:07 shown how we're not doing a
00:34:07 --> 00:34:08 great job of managing low
00:34:08 --> 00:34:09 back pain from a
00:34:11 --> 00:34:13 and medicine and health care
00:34:13 --> 00:34:16 and health care, a part of that solution.
00:34:16 --> 00:34:16 So I'm excited to hear what
00:34:16 --> 00:34:18 he brings into the table.
00:34:18 --> 00:34:18 I've actually had a chance
00:34:18 --> 00:34:21 to hear him once before speak,
00:34:21 --> 00:34:23 and it was it was
00:34:23 --> 00:34:25 definitely a one of those
00:34:25 --> 00:34:28 crowd appealing events.
00:34:28 --> 00:34:30 It was it was exciting and speaker.
00:34:30 --> 00:34:32 So I think those are the exciting things.
00:34:32 --> 00:34:33 And then the last thing is,
00:34:33 --> 00:34:35 is we just finished reviewing the,
00:34:36 --> 00:34:37 you know, the proposals.
00:34:38 --> 00:34:39 And I was excited because
00:34:39 --> 00:34:41 the majority of these
00:34:41 --> 00:34:43 proposals are manual therapy.
00:34:43 --> 00:34:44 People love to present about
00:34:44 --> 00:34:45 manual therapy,
00:34:45 --> 00:34:46 and we're going to have a
00:34:46 --> 00:34:49 lot of really diverse
00:34:51 --> 00:34:54 types of presentations that
00:34:54 --> 00:34:57 will go along with our keynote presenters,
00:34:58 --> 00:35:01 everything from pelvic health, pediatrics,
00:35:01 --> 00:35:03 sports to the typical
00:35:03 --> 00:35:04 things that we would see
00:35:04 --> 00:35:06 with chronic pain management and so on.
00:35:06 --> 00:35:09 But the overall quality we
00:35:09 --> 00:35:10 actually we were saying on
00:35:10 --> 00:35:11 the other night when we
00:35:11 --> 00:35:12 were going through the
00:35:12 --> 00:35:14 conference proposals that
00:35:15 --> 00:35:16 this is hard because they
00:35:16 --> 00:35:17 were actually too good.
00:35:17 --> 00:35:18 So there was,
00:35:19 --> 00:35:20 there was not enough
00:35:20 --> 00:35:22 distinction in the scores.
00:35:22 --> 00:35:22 And so it was,
00:35:22 --> 00:35:23 it was a little bit of a
00:35:23 --> 00:35:25 challenge to get these to
00:35:25 --> 00:35:26 figure out what was going to be best,
00:35:26 --> 00:35:26 which is a,
00:35:27 --> 00:35:28 which is a good challenge to have.
00:35:28 --> 00:35:29 Yeah.
00:35:29 --> 00:35:29 That's awesome.
00:35:30 --> 00:35:30 That is awesome.
00:35:31 --> 00:35:31 Great.
00:35:31 --> 00:35:33 And I love that we, you know,
00:35:33 --> 00:35:34 we're bringing in a keynote
00:35:34 --> 00:35:36 that's not a physical therapist.
00:35:36 --> 00:35:37 I think the outside
00:35:37 --> 00:35:38 perspective from other
00:35:39 --> 00:35:40 professionals is so different.
00:35:41 --> 00:35:42 important you know because
00:35:42 --> 00:35:44 they have a lens I think
00:35:44 --> 00:35:45 sometimes we don't know
00:35:45 --> 00:35:46 what we don't know because
00:35:46 --> 00:35:48 we talk to pts we engage
00:35:48 --> 00:35:50 with pts we you know we
00:35:50 --> 00:35:51 collaborate we do research
00:35:51 --> 00:35:53 and and I think it's really
00:35:53 --> 00:35:54 cool to have someone you
00:35:54 --> 00:35:56 know who's who's not a pt
00:35:56 --> 00:35:57 provide their perspective
00:35:57 --> 00:35:59 and their experiences I
00:35:59 --> 00:36:00 mean I'm really excited
00:36:00 --> 00:36:01 personally that he's coming
00:36:01 --> 00:36:02 I've been reading his work
00:36:03 --> 00:36:04 ever since I kind of
00:36:04 --> 00:36:05 entered academics and I
00:36:05 --> 00:36:09 quote his stuff all the time and so I'm
00:36:10 --> 00:36:11 I'm, you know,
00:36:11 --> 00:36:12 I kind of feel like I have a
00:36:12 --> 00:36:14 little bit of like, I'm starstruck.
00:36:14 --> 00:36:16 I was going to say, she's starstruck,
00:36:16 --> 00:36:17 Derek.
00:36:17 --> 00:36:20 All right, so Amy, don't worry.
00:36:20 --> 00:36:21 I'll reserve a seat in the
00:36:21 --> 00:36:22 front row for you.
00:36:22 --> 00:36:23 I'll leave one there for you.
00:36:23 --> 00:36:27 We're going to get her a shirt, Derek.
00:36:27 --> 00:36:28 We're going to get her a
00:36:28 --> 00:36:30 shirt and that he can sign it for her.
00:36:31 --> 00:36:32 Oh, we have to do something.
00:36:32 --> 00:36:34 Oh, guys.
00:36:35 --> 00:36:36 WWRCD.
00:36:36 --> 00:36:38 What would Robert Chow do?
00:36:39 --> 00:36:40 Oh, my gosh.
00:36:40 --> 00:36:41 You're giving all the
00:36:41 --> 00:36:42 listeners all these ideas
00:36:42 --> 00:36:42 now that they're going to
00:36:43 --> 00:36:44 have to tell us what we're going to do.
00:36:45 --> 00:36:46 Yeah, that could be a fun competition.
00:36:46 --> 00:36:47 Whose idea do we take?
00:36:47 --> 00:36:48 I'm just saying, Derek,
00:36:48 --> 00:36:49 we might have to explore
00:36:49 --> 00:36:50 this a little bit.
00:36:50 --> 00:36:51 I'm trying to figure out if
00:36:51 --> 00:36:53 we save Amy a seat in the
00:36:53 --> 00:36:54 front row or we actually
00:36:54 --> 00:36:55 don't have Amy in the front row.
00:36:55 --> 00:36:55 Oh, Derek, no.
00:36:55 --> 00:36:57 Like, you and I are in the front row.
00:36:57 --> 00:36:58 Amy's going to be, like,
00:36:59 --> 00:37:00 trying to nudge up there.
00:37:00 --> 00:37:00 We'll be like... Is that the
00:37:00 --> 00:37:02 risk of embarrassment that
00:37:02 --> 00:37:05 you're trying to put me in the 10th row?
00:37:05 --> 00:37:07 That's a real risk, just so you know.
00:37:08 --> 00:37:09 I'm excited Roger Chow's coming.
00:37:09 --> 00:37:10 I think it's going to be fantastic.
00:37:10 --> 00:37:11 It's going to be great.
00:37:11 --> 00:37:11 And...
00:37:12 --> 00:37:13 But all the other, you know,
00:37:14 --> 00:37:15 people that you mentioned
00:37:15 --> 00:37:15 that are in the lineup,
00:37:15 --> 00:37:17 I think it's going to be I
00:37:17 --> 00:37:17 think it's going to be great.
00:37:17 --> 00:37:20 Yeah, well,
00:37:20 --> 00:37:22 I just have to say kudos to you, Derek,
00:37:22 --> 00:37:23 for putting the lineup together.
00:37:23 --> 00:37:27 It is hard to put such top
00:37:27 --> 00:37:29 notch people year in, year out.
00:37:29 --> 00:37:30 And, you know,
00:37:30 --> 00:37:31 bringing that to the AM
00:37:31 --> 00:37:33 group is such a it's a privilege.
00:37:33 --> 00:37:33 Right.
00:37:33 --> 00:37:34 I always think it's such a
00:37:34 --> 00:37:35 privilege to have that
00:37:35 --> 00:37:36 opportunity to do that work.
00:37:37 --> 00:37:38 but it's also hard work.
00:37:38 --> 00:37:39 And Derek,
00:37:39 --> 00:37:40 you're really going out and
00:37:40 --> 00:37:41 getting those speakers.
00:37:41 --> 00:37:41 And so again,
00:37:41 --> 00:37:42 thank you so much for all
00:37:42 --> 00:37:43 your work you're doing there.
00:37:43 --> 00:37:45 It's, I mean, we really, our,
00:37:45 --> 00:37:48 our organization is for the
00:37:48 --> 00:37:49 people by the people.
00:37:50 --> 00:37:50 Like that's it.
00:37:50 --> 00:37:53 Like we're doing this work for our people,
00:37:53 --> 00:37:55 but AOMT is, has just been such a,
00:37:55 --> 00:37:57 such a great organization
00:37:57 --> 00:38:00 to be a part of from, from very,
00:38:00 --> 00:38:01 very long time ago.
00:38:01 --> 00:38:02 So I love seeing that,
00:38:03 --> 00:38:04 people still have the
00:38:04 --> 00:38:05 passion to serve with such a big heart.
00:38:05 --> 00:38:06 So thanks, Derek, for that work.
00:38:06 --> 00:38:07 The other thing I'll say is,
00:38:07 --> 00:38:08 is that it's actually,
00:38:08 --> 00:38:10 it's a little bit of an
00:38:10 --> 00:38:11 easier job than I thought
00:38:11 --> 00:38:12 it was going to be.
00:38:12 --> 00:38:13 I know that doesn't sound right.
00:38:14 --> 00:38:15 But in that,
00:38:16 --> 00:38:17 and I say that because AOMT is
00:38:18 --> 00:38:19 a very respectable,
00:38:20 --> 00:38:22 very respectable organization.
00:38:22 --> 00:38:24 And so when I reach out to people,
00:38:24 --> 00:38:25 they are
00:38:26 --> 00:38:27 they want to be part of that
00:38:27 --> 00:38:28 they know who our
00:38:28 --> 00:38:30 membership is they know our
00:38:30 --> 00:38:32 members are some of the you
00:38:32 --> 00:38:34 know not just the great
00:38:34 --> 00:38:35 researchers and education
00:38:36 --> 00:38:38 and educators but they also
00:38:38 --> 00:38:39 know that they truly are
00:38:39 --> 00:38:40 like some of the best
00:38:40 --> 00:38:42 clinicians you know if you
00:38:42 --> 00:38:43 if you think about this
00:38:43 --> 00:38:44 like who would I send my
00:38:44 --> 00:38:46 who would I send my mom to
00:38:46 --> 00:38:47 go get care for and if I
00:38:47 --> 00:38:48 saw somebody that
00:38:48 --> 00:38:50 had you know some background
00:38:50 --> 00:38:51 in manual therapy and such
00:38:52 --> 00:38:53 um and so when we talk to
00:38:54 --> 00:38:55 folks that want to present
00:38:55 --> 00:38:56 they know that they're
00:38:56 --> 00:38:57 presenting to an audience
00:38:57 --> 00:39:00 that is uh has high
00:39:00 --> 00:39:02 standards and I think that
00:39:02 --> 00:39:05 makes it um a bit of an of
00:39:05 --> 00:39:07 a nice role because I think
00:39:07 --> 00:39:08 people actually feel um you
00:39:09 --> 00:39:10 know it is a privilege to
00:39:10 --> 00:39:11 stand up on the main stage
00:39:11 --> 00:39:13 and to present to this group of
00:39:14 --> 00:39:16 members, clinicians,
00:39:16 --> 00:39:17 other researchers and
00:39:17 --> 00:39:19 educators who have these
00:39:20 --> 00:39:21 standards of excellence that are,
00:39:21 --> 00:39:23 you know, quite high.
00:39:25 --> 00:39:26 Yeah.
00:39:26 --> 00:39:28 Well, I think we're also just, you know,
00:39:28 --> 00:39:30 it's a pretty fun group too, by the way.
00:39:30 --> 00:39:32 We have a party every year.
00:39:32 --> 00:39:32 Yeah.
00:39:33 --> 00:39:33 And they're, they're pretty,
00:39:34 --> 00:39:34 they're pretty
00:39:35 --> 00:39:36 pretty crazy people.
00:39:36 --> 00:39:37 We enjoy each other's talk.
00:39:37 --> 00:39:39 We just got to watch Amy and Roger,
00:39:39 --> 00:39:40 apparently, though, at the party.
00:39:41 --> 00:39:43 So make sure that we give
00:39:43 --> 00:39:47 security a little bit of a cue.
00:39:47 --> 00:39:48 I love it.
00:39:48 --> 00:39:50 Well, I mean, again,
00:39:50 --> 00:39:51 we have such awesome people
00:39:51 --> 00:39:52 who come to this conference.
00:39:52 --> 00:39:55 So I always say it is like a star event,
00:39:55 --> 00:39:55 right?
00:39:55 --> 00:39:56 You get these rock stars in
00:39:56 --> 00:39:58 the profession who totally
00:39:58 --> 00:39:59 make time for other people,
00:39:59 --> 00:40:00 have conversations.
00:40:00 --> 00:40:00 So
00:40:01 --> 00:40:01 Amy,
00:40:02 --> 00:40:03 you can be the first to have that
00:40:03 --> 00:40:04 conversation with Roger,
00:40:04 --> 00:40:06 and I'm sure it'll all work out great.
00:40:07 --> 00:40:08 But we'll have others.
00:40:08 --> 00:40:10 So we'll distribute all the
00:40:10 --> 00:40:13 rock star dust around the room,
00:40:13 --> 00:40:14 make sure everyone gets to spread around.
00:40:14 --> 00:40:15 So that'll be great.
00:40:16 --> 00:40:17 Awesome.
00:40:17 --> 00:40:18 I think this is pretty good
00:40:18 --> 00:40:19 for our first kickoff.
00:40:19 --> 00:40:21 I mean, we hit our vision,
00:40:22 --> 00:40:23 what we're trying to do.
00:40:23 --> 00:40:24 We totally talked about how
00:40:24 --> 00:40:26 it aligns with what, you know,
00:40:26 --> 00:40:27 what we're trying to do as
00:40:27 --> 00:40:28 an organization.
00:40:28 --> 00:40:29 You gave them a little
00:40:29 --> 00:40:31 history about the naming,
00:40:31 --> 00:40:33 which by the way, not an easy thing.
00:40:33 --> 00:40:35 And thank goodness for Derek
00:40:35 --> 00:40:36 saving the day.
00:40:36 --> 00:40:37 You know,
00:40:37 --> 00:40:38 now we're sitting here at a space
00:40:38 --> 00:40:39 where we get to talk about
00:40:39 --> 00:40:41 what our next steps are we're going.
00:40:41 --> 00:40:42 We've got a lineup.
00:40:42 --> 00:40:43 We've got a huge lineup.
00:40:43 --> 00:40:44 We're going international.
00:40:45 --> 00:40:45 And some of those same
00:40:45 --> 00:40:46 people are going to be on
00:40:46 --> 00:40:48 the main stage with you, Derek,
00:40:48 --> 00:40:49 as we're kicking off a big
00:40:49 --> 00:40:50 conference that we just talked about.
00:40:50 --> 00:40:52 So I think this is a pretty
00:40:52 --> 00:40:53 good wrap up for all the
00:40:53 --> 00:40:54 things that we've got going
00:40:54 --> 00:40:55 on that are going to come
00:40:55 --> 00:40:56 over the next five, six months.
00:40:57 --> 00:40:58 Yeah, I think it is.
00:40:58 --> 00:40:59 I think it is.
00:41:00 --> 00:41:00 Yes.
00:41:01 --> 00:41:02 Very excited to be a part of this.
00:41:02 --> 00:41:05 And, you know, and to our listeners,
00:41:05 --> 00:41:06 actually, I just, you know,
00:41:07 --> 00:41:08 When we said, hey,
00:41:08 --> 00:41:09 what's our first show that
00:41:09 --> 00:41:10 we should have?
00:41:10 --> 00:41:10 I'm like,
00:41:10 --> 00:41:12 let's bring Megan and Amy on the
00:41:12 --> 00:41:13 show and let's just have a
00:41:13 --> 00:41:14 conversation because it
00:41:14 --> 00:41:16 would be about the best thing.
00:41:16 --> 00:41:17 We didn't play around with
00:41:17 --> 00:41:18 any of the technology, though, did we?
00:41:18 --> 00:41:19 We could have had all kinds
00:41:19 --> 00:41:20 of fun with some of the
00:41:20 --> 00:41:22 sound bites from our listeners and things,
00:41:22 --> 00:41:25 but we'll do more in our time.
00:41:26 --> 00:41:26 We'll do more.
00:41:27 --> 00:41:28 You know, I can remove myself now.
00:41:28 --> 00:41:29 I can just go.
00:41:29 --> 00:41:30 I know.
00:41:30 --> 00:41:32 I ask goodbye, you all.
00:41:32 --> 00:41:32 You can,
00:41:33 --> 00:41:34 but I also have the same amount of
00:41:34 --> 00:41:35 control as you do.
00:41:35 --> 00:41:37 And I can bring you back on the stage.
00:41:37 --> 00:41:38 I don't think we're going to
00:41:38 --> 00:41:39 showcase all of our
00:41:39 --> 00:41:40 inadequacies this early
00:41:41 --> 00:41:42 into this endeavor.
00:41:42 --> 00:41:43 I agree with Amy.
00:41:43 --> 00:41:44 And two beats one.
00:41:48 --> 00:41:49 All right.
00:41:49 --> 00:41:50 Well, thanks, team.
00:41:50 --> 00:41:51 It's great.
00:41:51 --> 00:41:52 I really appreciate you guys
00:41:52 --> 00:41:53 going and doing this with us.
00:41:54 --> 00:41:54 That's awesome.
00:41:54 --> 00:41:55 Sounds like you have to wrap.
00:41:56 --> 00:41:57 Sounds like it's a wrap.
00:41:58 --> 00:41:59 I'm going to end recording here.
