Five Lessons in 50 Years

I turned 50 years old this week! Honestly, I woke up feeling the same.

Age is just a number

Five years ago I set out to hit an “impossible goal” for my body and fitness. I wanted to pass the strong first kettlebell certification. The goal was to do 100 24 kilogram snatches in 5 minutes by the time I was 50.

5 things i’ve learned

  1. Have fun
  2. People are mean
  3. Explore the world and opportunities
  4. There is more than what most people expect
  5. Family is your foundation

Life is hard but lemonade is still sweet.

[00:00:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to the Aaron LeBauer Show. This is the number one show for passionate physical therapy and healthcare entrepreneurs

[00:00:11] [SPEAKER_00]: looking to level up their income and impact on the world. If that's you, then you're in the right place.

[00:00:18] [SPEAKER_00]: So sit back, chill out, and let's get into the show.

[00:00:25] [SPEAKER_01]: Hey, what's up? Welcome back to the Aaron LeBauer Show.

[00:00:30] [SPEAKER_01]: Today is a special edition because it's my 50th birthday.

[00:00:33] [SPEAKER_01]: So this isn't coming out on my birthday. My birthday was probably last week or a week ago.

[00:00:39] [SPEAKER_01]: But today I woke up December 1st.

[00:00:43] [SPEAKER_01]: 50. So congratulations to me.

[00:00:47] [SPEAKER_01]: But you know what? I usually, here's the funny thing is I really, you know, I don't like celebrating my birthday.

[00:00:54] [SPEAKER_01]: There's a few reasons why. I don't like artificial celebrations like Valentine's Day.

[00:01:01] [SPEAKER_01]: You know, like I don't like, I don't want people, what I'm fine with my birthday.

[00:01:05] [SPEAKER_01]: I think the thing is, is 15 years ago when I went to PT school and everyone was like Aaron, are you on the Facebook?

[00:01:13] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, what do you mean the Facebook? You know, I was an adult student. I was 30 something years old and I got on Facebook.

[00:01:19] [SPEAKER_01]: So Facebook's fine. But then all of a sudden Facebook publishes your birthday and everyone who people you don't know

[00:01:25] [SPEAKER_01]: and don't care about you, generally Facebook's telling them to wish you happy birthday and I feel like that's ingenuous.

[00:01:31] [SPEAKER_01]: So I purposely don't publish my birthday on Facebook.

[00:01:34] [SPEAKER_01]: There's also another reason why birthdays have always been weird for me.

[00:01:38] [SPEAKER_01]: When I was racing bikes, I raced bikes from the time I was 17 to 34.

[00:01:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Not every year during that period but there was a good 7-year period where if you know me or you've heard any of this podcast

[00:01:53] [SPEAKER_01]: I was racing pretty seriously. I raced 50 to 80 days a year.

[00:01:58] [SPEAKER_01]: And so what that meant, so in bicycle racing they have different categories.

[00:02:03] [SPEAKER_01]: They have juniors, they have senior men or open senior men and then you've got what they're called 35 and older masters racers.

[00:02:12] [SPEAKER_01]: So 35 and older.

[00:02:13] [SPEAKER_01]: And so your racing age for the year is the age, not how old you are but it's the age you turn that year.

[00:02:21] [SPEAKER_01]: And bike racing seasons summer between February and September or January and September.

[00:02:28] [SPEAKER_01]: In California it starts in January.

[00:02:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Some stay to ends in October especially when you're mountain biking or gravel.

[00:02:35] [SPEAKER_01]: But my racing age, my birthday is in December.

[00:02:39] [SPEAKER_01]: So all year long I'm riding down on these handwritten forms because nowadays you have electronic forms.

[00:02:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Handwritten forms that I'm 27 but I was actually 26.

[00:02:49] [SPEAKER_01]: And there was a period of time where people would ask me how old are you.

[00:02:53] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, I don't know because for like 10 years, 50 times a year I'm riding down that I'm a year older than I actually was.

[00:03:03] [SPEAKER_01]: So that's another reason like birthdays.

[00:03:05] [SPEAKER_01]: Birthdays are fun and they're great and everything.

[00:03:09] [SPEAKER_01]: But I also have this weird 80, DHHD, dyslexia neurodivergent brain.

[00:03:16] [SPEAKER_01]: Those things don't matter to me, at least to other people they matter a whole lot and that gets me in trouble in ways.

[00:03:22] [SPEAKER_01]: But it's my 50th birthday.

[00:03:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Both of my kids called me this morning and my oldest daughter was like,

[00:03:29] [SPEAKER_01]: Hey dad, how you doing? Did you wake up feeling any different?

[00:03:32] [SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, no I actually feel pretty the same.

[00:03:34] [SPEAKER_01]: And she's like, did you wake up with arthritis?

[00:03:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Which is funny because I was like, no I didn't.

[00:03:40] [SPEAKER_01]: I was like age is just a number and I was like I should share that.

[00:03:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Because it's funny because like she's joking me because she knows I'm a physical therapist.

[00:03:46] [SPEAKER_01]: And we talk about that all the time but people out there, your patients, clients,

[00:03:51] [SPEAKER_01]: maybe you are like, oh now that I'm older, you know, oh now my body is going to hurt.

[00:03:55] [SPEAKER_01]: Now the reason I hurt and can't do things is because I'm older.

[00:03:58] [SPEAKER_01]: That's not really true.

[00:04:00] [SPEAKER_01]: And you know I feel better physically in my body in the last years than I did in my 20s.

[00:04:07] [SPEAKER_01]: Because I've been working on my movement quality and my strength,

[00:04:09] [SPEAKER_01]: I've been training with kettlebells and doing some CrossFit and some yoga here and there.

[00:04:14] [SPEAKER_01]: But not only yoga and not only weightlifting and not only cycling.

[00:04:19] [SPEAKER_01]: And there's some things about my health and body that haven't been great

[00:04:23] [SPEAKER_01]: and things that you know I'm like, oh like I can tell like through my skin and wrinkles and hair

[00:04:27] [SPEAKER_01]: like I'm getting old you know or I'm getting seasoned.

[00:04:33] [SPEAKER_01]: You know like a good steak or leather jacket getting patina.

[00:04:38] [SPEAKER_01]: I can see it and you know there's a part of me that likes it a lot.

[00:04:44] [SPEAKER_01]: And then there's a part of me that has to come to the terms with it's different

[00:04:47] [SPEAKER_01]: and you've probably experienced the same.

[00:04:49] [SPEAKER_01]: But no I did not wake up with arthritis.

[00:04:52] [SPEAKER_01]: And age is just a number.

[00:04:53] [SPEAKER_01]: Last year I rode 80 miles in the desert.

[00:04:57] [SPEAKER_01]: I was trying to get to 100.

[00:04:59] [SPEAKER_01]: This year my goal, when I had this goal, I set this about five years ago.

[00:05:08] [SPEAKER_01]: I think it was about five years ago.

[00:05:09] [SPEAKER_01]: It might have actually been in 2020 which feels like a long.

[00:05:13] [SPEAKER_01]: So five years ago, five or six years ago I started swinging kettlebells.

[00:05:18] [SPEAKER_01]: In, it was 2019 or 2020.

[00:05:21] [SPEAKER_01]: I can't remember because you know pandemic but somewhere around there I did

[00:05:25] [SPEAKER_01]: a wake up warrior program with Garrett J. White.

[00:05:29] [SPEAKER_01]: If you want to learn intense marketing, sales, persuasion strategies

[00:05:33] [SPEAKER_01]: just go listen to this guy.

[00:05:35] [SPEAKER_01]: He's got programs for married businessmen type of thing.

[00:05:40] [SPEAKER_01]: And like personal development help you improve your relationships and stuff.

[00:05:44] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean what?

[00:05:44] [SPEAKER_01]: That didn't save my marriage but it made me a better person.

[00:05:48] [SPEAKER_01]: Like I've grown tremendously through some of the things that I've done

[00:05:53] [SPEAKER_01]: and that was one of them.

[00:05:55] [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't fix the problem in my marriage because I wasn't the only

[00:06:00] [SPEAKER_01]: problem in the marriage.

[00:06:03] [SPEAKER_01]: But during that process what he does, we did like a goal planning.

[00:06:08] [SPEAKER_01]: He's a good coach.

[00:06:10] [SPEAKER_01]: And so we create these, I'm going to say, impossible goals.

[00:06:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Like what's the impossible goal for your relationships?

[00:06:17] [SPEAKER_01]: For your faith?

[00:06:18] [SPEAKER_01]: For your fitness?

[00:06:19] [SPEAKER_01]: For your business?

[00:06:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Etc.

[00:06:21] [SPEAKER_01]: But I actually now have better relationships, closer relationships

[00:06:24] [SPEAKER_01]: with my kids.

[00:06:25] [SPEAKER_01]: Partly they're older and partly I get to spend a lot of time with them.

[00:06:28] [SPEAKER_01]: But the thing that I set for my body was the impossible goal

[00:06:34] [SPEAKER_01]: was pass the strong first kettlebell certification.

[00:06:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Okay so just a couple things about that.

[00:06:41] [SPEAKER_01]: One, the certification is using it if you're under 50 it's

[00:06:46] [SPEAKER_01]: using a 24 kilogram kettlebell which is 53 pound kettlebell.

[00:06:50] [SPEAKER_01]: It's heavy.

[00:06:51] [SPEAKER_01]: You have to do like five cleans which you bring it from the floor

[00:06:56] [SPEAKER_01]: up into your chest.

[00:06:57] [SPEAKER_01]: You have to do five, like you have to demonstrate good form

[00:07:00] [SPEAKER_01]: with your squats.

[00:07:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Even I think it's a double kettlebell squat and a double

[00:07:05] [SPEAKER_01]: kettlebell deadlift maybe.

[00:07:07] [SPEAKER_01]: And then you have to do five strict presses which is a

[00:07:11] [SPEAKER_01]: limiter for me in strength and but that wasn't the big

[00:07:15] [SPEAKER_01]: limiter.

[00:07:16] [SPEAKER_01]: The big limiter for me was going to be the snatch.

[00:07:18] [SPEAKER_01]: So the snatch is where the kettlebell goes from the floor.

[00:07:21] [SPEAKER_01]: You're in a little bit of a squat hinge.

[00:07:23] [SPEAKER_01]: A kettlebell from the floor and it goes all the way over head

[00:07:25] [SPEAKER_01]: into a locked out position then back down.

[00:07:27] [SPEAKER_01]: It's not just doing five of them.

[00:07:29] [SPEAKER_01]: The test is you have to do 105 minutes which is a lot.

[00:07:34] [SPEAKER_01]: And it's a lot of weight.

[00:07:36] [SPEAKER_01]: 105 minutes and at the time I was like I can't even snatch

[00:07:39] [SPEAKER_01]: 20 kilograms which is the one below that 44 pounds

[00:07:42] [SPEAKER_01]: and then there's the 32 pound 16 kilogram.

[00:07:44] [SPEAKER_01]: At the time I could go in and I could do 16 kilograms

[00:07:48] [SPEAKER_01]: 100 times in five minutes.

[00:07:49] [SPEAKER_01]: I'd done it.

[00:07:50] [SPEAKER_01]: But when I started with kettlebell six years ago,

[00:07:53] [SPEAKER_01]: I started with the weight that was even lighter.

[00:07:56] [SPEAKER_01]: The I think it was 12 kilograms 25 pounds.

[00:07:59] [SPEAKER_01]: I started with that like that was hard to manage.

[00:08:02] [SPEAKER_01]: And part of this is you know I'm Paul skinny.

[00:08:06] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't have like a like a like a bro body.

[00:08:09] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not like a gym bro.

[00:08:11] [SPEAKER_01]: Like I had guys that I worked out on my cycling team

[00:08:13] [SPEAKER_01]: worked out with who we would go into the gym in the winter

[00:08:17] [SPEAKER_01]: to do workouts and like Aaron I can't do that work out

[00:08:19] [SPEAKER_01]: with you because I'll get too big and bulky.

[00:08:21] [SPEAKER_01]: They had to do you know because they because in cycling

[00:08:24] [SPEAKER_01]: you don't want to gain 15 pounds of muscle over the winter.

[00:08:27] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm trying to gain some like strength over the winter

[00:08:30] [SPEAKER_01]: but the max I would gain would be like five pounds

[00:08:33] [SPEAKER_01]: in two and a half to three months

[00:08:35] [SPEAKER_01]: because I wasn't taking steroids.

[00:08:37] [SPEAKER_01]: And then I'd lose it all in the endurance rides in January.

[00:08:43] [SPEAKER_01]: You know I'm just trying to get more power in my legs

[00:08:45] [SPEAKER_01]: and my teammates would have to do different exercises

[00:08:49] [SPEAKER_01]: because they couldn't they wouldn't push the same like

[00:08:53] [SPEAKER_01]: reps and weights that I would with my legs.

[00:08:56] [SPEAKER_01]: But again you know I was doing some squats

[00:09:00] [SPEAKER_01]: but mostly machines and that's different

[00:09:02] [SPEAKER_01]: when we're talking like a six foot three.

[00:09:04] [SPEAKER_01]: I have this kettlebell that's got to go from the ground

[00:09:06] [SPEAKER_01]: to about seven and a half feet in the air.

[00:09:09] [SPEAKER_01]: And if you're five five four the weight doesn't have

[00:09:12] [SPEAKER_01]: to travel as far and you can get a lot more reps.

[00:09:14] [SPEAKER_01]: It's like I can't do burpees as fast as some short

[00:09:17] [SPEAKER_01]: like guys who are like maybe gymnastics like sized right.

[00:09:22] [SPEAKER_01]: That's another challenge for me so I'm sitting here

[00:09:24] [SPEAKER_01]: thinking I can't snatch a 20 I'll never be able

[00:09:27] [SPEAKER_01]: to do the 24 kilograms like I'll never like

[00:09:29] [SPEAKER_01]: that's impossible and I was like I will never

[00:09:31] [SPEAKER_01]: be able to do that.

[00:09:33] [SPEAKER_01]: I was like I don't see a path that I could

[00:09:35] [SPEAKER_01]: that I can do this and so that was my impossible goal

[00:09:38] [SPEAKER_01]: for my fitness is to be strong first kettlebell certified.

[00:09:41] [SPEAKER_01]: It has nothing to do with strong first.

[00:09:43] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean there's drag and door as well but you know

[00:09:45] [SPEAKER_01]: strong first is like has a you know I don't know

[00:09:49] [SPEAKER_01]: I like their things better it could be it could

[00:09:51] [SPEAKER_01]: have been either right.

[00:09:52] [SPEAKER_01]: I actually have them drag and door kettlebells

[00:09:54] [SPEAKER_01]: I have do have one strong first kettlebell

[00:09:56] [SPEAKER_01]: but they only started making them

[00:09:58] [SPEAKER_01]: but it was just past that certification

[00:10:00] [SPEAKER_01]: whether it was through drag and door or not.

[00:10:02] [SPEAKER_01]: It was really not about the certification

[00:10:04] [SPEAKER_01]: saying Aaron is strong first certified

[00:10:06] [SPEAKER_01]: and as much as saying by time Aaron is 50

[00:10:09] [SPEAKER_01]: he's going to be in really good shape

[00:10:10] [SPEAKER_01]: know how to move really well and he's going to be able

[00:10:11] [SPEAKER_01]: to do something that most people can't do

[00:10:14] [SPEAKER_01]: and then he didn't even think he can do right.

[00:10:16] [SPEAKER_01]: I didn't think I would be able to do that

[00:10:19] [SPEAKER_01]: so that's been my goal and I worked with

[00:10:21] [SPEAKER_01]: a kettlebell coach her name was Alicia

[00:10:24] [SPEAKER_01]: her name is Alicia Angelini she's married now

[00:10:27] [SPEAKER_01]: and has a different last name I can't remember

[00:10:29] [SPEAKER_01]: off the top of my head

[00:10:31] [SPEAKER_01]: but I stopped training with her

[00:10:33] [SPEAKER_01]: because she went into PT school

[00:10:35] [SPEAKER_01]: she didn't have time to train me

[00:10:36] [SPEAKER_01]: and then so I started working with Brett Jones

[00:10:39] [SPEAKER_01]: about three years ago

[00:10:41] [SPEAKER_01]: maybe maybe it was two and a half years ago

[00:10:44] [SPEAKER_01]: I've been working with Brett for over two years

[00:10:47] [SPEAKER_01]: and Brett Jones is the program director

[00:10:49] [SPEAKER_01]: for strong first he's the instructor

[00:10:52] [SPEAKER_01]: at FMS at Functional Movement with Grey Cook

[00:10:56] [SPEAKER_01]: but

[00:10:56] [SPEAKER_01]: 100 snatches in five minutes is tough

[00:11:00] [SPEAKER_01]: even at like a lighter weight

[00:11:02] [SPEAKER_01]: because your heart rate just gets

[00:11:05] [SPEAKER_01]: gradually and gradually, quickly higher

[00:11:06] [SPEAKER_01]: and higher and higher

[00:11:07] [SPEAKER_01]: I did a little bit of a test this week

[00:11:10] [SPEAKER_01]: and got my heart rate over 160

[00:11:12] [SPEAKER_01]: and that was really tough for me

[00:11:16] [SPEAKER_01]: so here's what happened is I missed the goal

[00:11:18] [SPEAKER_01]: I was like okay because why 50 years old

[00:11:21] [SPEAKER_01]: well one it's a

[00:11:22] [SPEAKER_01]: half way through 100

[00:11:24] [SPEAKER_01]: but when I'm 50

[00:11:26] [SPEAKER_01]: as of today

[00:11:28] [SPEAKER_01]: past the certification I only need to be able

[00:11:30] [SPEAKER_01]: to snatch a 20 kilogram

[00:11:33] [SPEAKER_01]: because as you can't older

[00:11:34] [SPEAKER_01]: you know they think you're not as strong

[00:11:37] [SPEAKER_01]: but it's which is fair

[00:11:41] [SPEAKER_01]: I've done this more easily when I was in my 30s

[00:11:43] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know I didn't try

[00:11:44] [SPEAKER_01]: but when you're 50

[00:11:46] [SPEAKER_01]: the test weight for my body

[00:11:48] [SPEAKER_01]: like weight

[00:11:49] [SPEAKER_01]: you know so under

[00:11:51] [SPEAKER_01]: 225 pounds it's

[00:11:53] [SPEAKER_01]: 24 kilograms I think if you're a

[00:11:56] [SPEAKER_01]: 225 pound or 250 pound

[00:12:00] [SPEAKER_01]: dude it's 28 kilograms

[00:12:01] [SPEAKER_01]: but over 50 years old

[00:12:04] [SPEAKER_01]: it drops to 20 kilograms

[00:12:06] [SPEAKER_01]: it's still a tough test

[00:12:09] [SPEAKER_01]: but I didn't

[00:12:09] [SPEAKER_01]: make the 24 kilograms I was

[00:12:11] [SPEAKER_01]: decently on track to do it but I had a couple things

[00:12:13] [SPEAKER_01]: happened this year that took me off track

[00:12:16] [SPEAKER_01]: as you know

[00:12:19] [SPEAKER_01]: back in May

[00:12:19] [SPEAKER_01]: I was indoor wave surfing

[00:12:21] [SPEAKER_01]: and hit my head and fell and that

[00:12:23] [SPEAKER_01]: that put a damper on things

[00:12:25] [SPEAKER_01]: but then

[00:12:26] [SPEAKER_01]: but I got through the summer

[00:12:27] [SPEAKER_01]: I was too busy to go to a

[00:12:30] [SPEAKER_01]: course this summer anyways

[00:12:31] [SPEAKER_01]: but then I hit my head again at the end of the summer

[00:12:34] [SPEAKER_01]: and that one messed with my exercise tolerance

[00:12:37] [SPEAKER_01]: more than anything

[00:12:39] [SPEAKER_01]: I hit my head

[00:12:40] [SPEAKER_01]: in I think

[00:12:43] [SPEAKER_01]: I was in my late 20s racing bikes

[00:12:44] [SPEAKER_01]: in Iowa woke up in Iowa and didn't know why I was in Iowa

[00:12:46] [SPEAKER_01]: I had been it was in a bike crash

[00:12:48] [SPEAKER_01]: in a bike race

[00:12:50] [SPEAKER_01]: that time I just couldn't remember things at the end of the summer

[00:12:52] [SPEAKER_01]: this one is like more affected

[00:12:54] [SPEAKER_01]: vision balance and exercise tolerance

[00:12:56] [SPEAKER_01]: for me

[00:12:58] [SPEAKER_01]: and so I backed way off

[00:13:00] [SPEAKER_01]: and it was you know the exercises

[00:13:02] [SPEAKER_01]: were the killer

[00:13:04] [SPEAKER_01]: killer exercises keep it light and happy

[00:13:06] [SPEAKER_01]: and I've been doing that but that meant

[00:13:08] [SPEAKER_01]: I lost momentum which is okay

[00:13:10] [SPEAKER_01]: and it's one of those things where it's like I set a goal for myself

[00:13:12] [SPEAKER_01]: and I was really close to it

[00:13:15] [SPEAKER_01]: but I didn't quite hit it

[00:13:17] [SPEAKER_01]: but guess what

[00:13:18] [SPEAKER_01]: like this week Tuesday

[00:13:20] [SPEAKER_01]: I decided you know what

[00:13:22] [SPEAKER_01]: let me just see what I can do with the 20kg

[00:13:24] [SPEAKER_01]: and I did 80 reps in 4 minutes

[00:13:27] [SPEAKER_01]: and 5 seconds so I was on pace

[00:13:29] [SPEAKER_01]: to hit it

[00:13:30] [SPEAKER_01]: my heart rate got so high

[00:13:32] [SPEAKER_01]: like over 160

[00:13:33] [SPEAKER_01]: I went mountain monitoring at the time I was able to

[00:13:36] [SPEAKER_01]: see it afterwards and I can kind of feel it

[00:13:38] [SPEAKER_01]: I was just like you know what I could finish this

[00:13:40] [SPEAKER_01]: I could do it but I don't really need to push myself

[00:13:43] [SPEAKER_01]: to my ultimate limit

[00:13:44] [SPEAKER_01]: I've done that before in my life

[00:13:46] [SPEAKER_01]: no one else is counting on

[00:13:48] [SPEAKER_01]: me doing it this is a me goal

[00:13:50] [SPEAKER_01]: and I knew I just

[00:13:52] [SPEAKER_01]: haven't spiked my heart rate that high

[00:13:54] [SPEAKER_01]: in months

[00:13:55] [SPEAKER_01]: and I just need to do that

[00:13:57] [SPEAKER_01]: you know 3 or 4 more times and I'll have it

[00:14:00] [SPEAKER_01]: like I'm really confident

[00:14:02] [SPEAKER_01]: I've got the 20kg

[00:14:03] [SPEAKER_01]: I've been confident that I could do it

[00:14:05] [SPEAKER_01]: I tested the summer

[00:14:07] [SPEAKER_01]: and I didn't try to push it

[00:14:09] [SPEAKER_01]: and I was able to do it in like 6 minutes

[00:14:11] [SPEAKER_01]: at like 75%

[00:14:12] [SPEAKER_01]: effort

[00:14:14] [SPEAKER_01]: so I knew that was going to be something

[00:14:16] [SPEAKER_01]: I'd be able to do

[00:14:18] [SPEAKER_01]: but here's the thing is like I missed the goal

[00:14:20] [SPEAKER_01]: so what I have to do

[00:14:21] [SPEAKER_01]: reset the goal so sometimes in life

[00:14:24] [SPEAKER_01]: you crush your goals

[00:14:25] [SPEAKER_01]: and you get lost and you're like

[00:14:27] [SPEAKER_01]: what do I do?

[00:14:29] [SPEAKER_01]: I became a category 1 cyclist

[00:14:31] [SPEAKER_01]: I was like okay never thought I'd be here

[00:14:33] [SPEAKER_01]: I lost sight of my goals

[00:14:35] [SPEAKER_01]: I've got in business

[00:14:36] [SPEAKER_01]: I've got myself or clients

[00:14:38] [SPEAKER_01]: like you get way past something and you're like okay

[00:14:40] [SPEAKER_01]: what do I do now?

[00:14:41] [SPEAKER_01]: well like I'm done

[00:14:43] [SPEAKER_01]: you're not done and you just gotta set new goals

[00:14:45] [SPEAKER_01]: so yesterday my daughter, my youngest daughter

[00:14:47] [SPEAKER_01]: was like dad did you hit your kettlebell goal

[00:14:49] [SPEAKER_01]: and I was like no not yet

[00:14:50] [SPEAKER_01]: she was like oh well you at least need to try

[00:14:53] [SPEAKER_01]: she was like don't

[00:14:55] [SPEAKER_01]: she was like just do it

[00:14:56] [SPEAKER_01]: and don't worry about hitting

[00:14:58] [SPEAKER_01]: you know the 5 minute mark

[00:15:00] [SPEAKER_01]: this is my 12 year old

[00:15:01] [SPEAKER_01]: she's like just do it

[00:15:03] [SPEAKER_01]: and see how long it takes you

[00:15:05] [SPEAKER_01]: oh my gosh so anyways

[00:15:07] [SPEAKER_01]: that's going to be the workout today

[00:15:11] [SPEAKER_01]: we'll see

[00:15:11] [SPEAKER_01]: I snatched 24 kilograms a couple times yesterday

[00:15:14] [SPEAKER_01]: and I was like ooh this heavy weight

[00:15:16] [SPEAKER_01]: because I haven't snatched it in like 3 or 4 months

[00:15:18] [SPEAKER_01]: but I'm going to do it later today

[00:15:20] [SPEAKER_01]: and see where I get

[00:15:21] [SPEAKER_01]: so I missed the goal but I did 20 kilograms

[00:15:24] [SPEAKER_01]: 80 reps in 4 minutes

[00:15:25] [SPEAKER_01]: and 5 seconds which is on pace

[00:15:28] [SPEAKER_01]: so cool

[00:15:29] [SPEAKER_01]: but what was my goal initially

[00:15:31] [SPEAKER_01]: why? it was

[00:15:33] [SPEAKER_01]: to be wake up on my 50th birthday

[00:15:36] [SPEAKER_01]: be able to tie my shoes

[00:15:38] [SPEAKER_01]: not blame my age

[00:15:40] [SPEAKER_01]: for the pain in my body

[00:15:41] [SPEAKER_01]: and I mean I've got visible abs

[00:15:44] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't have like the big veins on my arms

[00:15:46] [SPEAKER_01]: but I got my forearm veins

[00:15:47] [SPEAKER_01]: you know I've always had those

[00:15:50] [SPEAKER_01]: you know I'm

[00:15:51] [SPEAKER_01]: mobile, I'm strong, I'm fit

[00:15:53] [SPEAKER_01]: I can do 5 pull ups yesterday

[00:15:55] [SPEAKER_01]: and most people can't do that

[00:15:58] [SPEAKER_01]: most people in America

[00:16:01] [SPEAKER_01]: don't

[00:16:01] [SPEAKER_01]: do it, most of the people listening

[00:16:03] [SPEAKER_01]: are probably

[00:16:05] [SPEAKER_01]: health conscious physical therapists

[00:16:07] [SPEAKER_01]: whoever

[00:16:09] [SPEAKER_01]: and most physical therapists

[00:16:11] [SPEAKER_01]: probably at 50 years old can't do 5 pull ups

[00:16:13] [SPEAKER_01]: and you know 100 snatches

[00:16:16] [SPEAKER_01]: and snatch 24 kilograms

[00:16:17] [SPEAKER_01]: like most people can't do that

[00:16:19] [SPEAKER_01]: so my goal was to be

[00:16:20] [SPEAKER_01]: in the best shape and fitness of my life

[00:16:24] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not in the absolute best health

[00:16:27] [SPEAKER_01]: of my life

[00:16:27] [SPEAKER_01]: this whole divorce thing

[00:16:31] [SPEAKER_01]: impacted my mental health

[00:16:33] [SPEAKER_01]: quite a bit

[00:16:33] [SPEAKER_01]: some days are a lot tougher than they used to be

[00:16:38] [SPEAKER_01]: but I got a good therapist

[00:16:39] [SPEAKER_01]: and it's like I'm saying

[00:16:42] [SPEAKER_01]: hey at 50 this is the

[00:16:44] [SPEAKER_01]: first day of the rest of my life

[00:16:46] [SPEAKER_01]: which is really cool

[00:16:47] [SPEAKER_01]: so there's a lot of opportunity out there

[00:16:50] [SPEAKER_01]: no matter how old you are

[00:16:52] [SPEAKER_01]: and it's my birthday

[00:16:53] [SPEAKER_01]: I just jotted down

[00:16:55] [SPEAKER_01]: like 5 things, actually it's 6

[00:16:57] [SPEAKER_01]: but 5 lessons that I've learned

[00:16:59] [SPEAKER_01]: these are really short

[00:17:00] [SPEAKER_01]: and I'm just thinking like what's each decade of my life

[00:17:03] [SPEAKER_01]: right?

[00:17:04] [SPEAKER_01]: so 5 things that I've learned in the last 50 years

[00:17:06] [SPEAKER_01]: number 1 have fun

[00:17:07] [SPEAKER_01]: when you're under 10 all I remember is just like

[00:17:10] [SPEAKER_01]: yeah this is about fun

[00:17:11] [SPEAKER_01]: so make sure your life is about fun

[00:17:13] [SPEAKER_01]: number 2 in my teens

[00:17:15] [SPEAKER_01]: I learned that people are mean

[00:17:18] [SPEAKER_01]: I was bullied in middle school

[00:17:22] [SPEAKER_01]: and I've learned this now with my teenagers

[00:17:25] [SPEAKER_01]: like kids don't have filters

[00:17:26] [SPEAKER_01]: they can be mean to each other without knowing it

[00:17:28] [SPEAKER_01]: they can be mean to each other and know it

[00:17:31] [SPEAKER_01]: and their brains are fully developed

[00:17:33] [SPEAKER_01]: but people are mean

[00:17:34] [SPEAKER_01]: people are rude

[00:17:36] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm still learning this

[00:17:37] [SPEAKER_01]: but people take things out on others

[00:17:41] [SPEAKER_01]: when they aren't able to process

[00:17:44] [SPEAKER_01]: that emotion themselves

[00:17:45] [SPEAKER_01]: a lot of times

[00:17:47] [SPEAKER_01]: they take things out

[00:17:49] [SPEAKER_01]: and they say things

[00:17:51] [SPEAKER_01]: and do things to other people

[00:17:52] [SPEAKER_01]: when they're unable to acknowledge that

[00:17:55] [SPEAKER_01]: they have a problem

[00:17:56] [SPEAKER_01]: it really is about them and not the other person

[00:17:58] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean I really learned that lesson in my teens

[00:18:01] [SPEAKER_01]: I think in my 20s

[00:18:03] [SPEAKER_01]: the lesson was explore the world

[00:18:06] [SPEAKER_01]: and explore your opportunities

[00:18:08] [SPEAKER_01]: don't stay in Greensboro for your whole life

[00:18:10] [SPEAKER_01]: so I lived in

[00:18:12] [SPEAKER_01]: California

[00:18:14] [SPEAKER_01]: Belgium

[00:18:16] [SPEAKER_01]: Israel

[00:18:18] [SPEAKER_01]: I was a bike messenger

[00:18:20] [SPEAKER_01]: I raced bikes all over the United States

[00:18:23] [SPEAKER_01]: I tried drugs

[00:18:25] [SPEAKER_01]: like pot

[00:18:28] [SPEAKER_01]: and ecstasy

[00:18:30] [SPEAKER_01]: boat parties

[00:18:31] [SPEAKER_01]: we did some mushrooms as well

[00:18:34] [SPEAKER_01]: went to music festivals

[00:18:35] [SPEAKER_01]: explore the world and your opportunities

[00:18:37] [SPEAKER_01]: because you don't know what you're going to find

[00:18:39] [SPEAKER_01]: but if you stay in a hole

[00:18:40] [SPEAKER_01]: you'll never find those things

[00:18:43] [SPEAKER_01]: right?

[00:18:45] [SPEAKER_01]: my 30s

[00:18:47] [SPEAKER_01]: what I realized was

[00:18:49] [SPEAKER_01]: there's more

[00:18:51] [SPEAKER_01]: there's more to life than what most people expect

[00:18:55] [SPEAKER_01]: so my 30s is when

[00:18:58] [SPEAKER_01]: most people get out of school

[00:18:59] [SPEAKER_01]: and they just get a job

[00:19:01] [SPEAKER_01]: and they're like oh I'm just going to stand this job forever

[00:19:03] [SPEAKER_01]: where I'm going to stand this job until I can get a better job

[00:19:05] [SPEAKER_01]: and I can get a job with a window

[00:19:07] [SPEAKER_01]: windows

[00:19:08] [SPEAKER_01]: a window cubicle doesn't mean you've made it

[00:19:11] [SPEAKER_01]: there's more to life than most people expect

[00:19:13] [SPEAKER_01]: and I set this expectation for myself

[00:19:16] [SPEAKER_01]: in my 20s

[00:19:17] [SPEAKER_01]: but really I learned this in my 30s

[00:19:18] [SPEAKER_01]: my 30s when this happened was

[00:19:20] [SPEAKER_01]: I will be upset with myself

[00:19:22] [SPEAKER_01]: I do the same thing for more than 10 years

[00:19:27] [SPEAKER_01]: I became a massage therapist

[00:19:29] [SPEAKER_01]: and then within 10 years

[00:19:30] [SPEAKER_01]: I was back into PT school

[00:19:32] [SPEAKER_01]: and within 10 years I started business coaching

[00:19:34] [SPEAKER_01]: and

[00:19:35] [SPEAKER_01]: now I've got

[00:19:37] [SPEAKER_01]: the opportunities are all opening for me

[00:19:39] [SPEAKER_01]: and I'm in that mark again

[00:19:42] [SPEAKER_01]: where there's other opportunities

[00:19:43] [SPEAKER_01]: and I'm waiting for them

[00:19:45] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to force it though

[00:19:47] [SPEAKER_01]: but there's more to life than what most people expect

[00:19:50] [SPEAKER_01]: because they're closed off

[00:19:52] [SPEAKER_01]: and they have

[00:19:55] [SPEAKER_01]: preconceived notions

[00:19:56] [SPEAKER_01]: it's kind of like a person with back pain

[00:19:57] [SPEAKER_01]: they're like well my cousin's got a rupture disc

[00:20:00] [SPEAKER_01]: and I can never go across it again

[00:20:02] [SPEAKER_01]: people are like oh this is all life has

[00:20:04] [SPEAKER_01]: there's so much more to life

[00:20:07] [SPEAKER_01]: in my 40s

[00:20:08] [SPEAKER_01]: it was about family as your foundation

[00:20:10] [SPEAKER_01]: family, kids

[00:20:12] [SPEAKER_01]: people in your life

[00:20:13] [SPEAKER_01]: those were my parents

[00:20:15] [SPEAKER_01]: there was a time when I didn't have

[00:20:17] [SPEAKER_01]: I had good relationships with my parents

[00:20:19] [SPEAKER_01]: but they would annoy me

[00:20:21] [SPEAKER_01]: you'd be like oh can't you leave me alone

[00:20:24] [SPEAKER_01]: but I realized that family

[00:20:26] [SPEAKER_01]: is key even though I don't live near a lot of them

[00:20:29] [SPEAKER_01]: and I realized

[00:20:31] [SPEAKER_01]: through divorce that rocked my foundation

[00:20:34] [SPEAKER_01]: that rocked my foundation

[00:20:36] [SPEAKER_01]: of the family that I had

[00:20:37] [SPEAKER_01]: but family is important

[00:20:39] [SPEAKER_01]: and it looks different for everybody

[00:20:41] [SPEAKER_01]: and it will change

[00:20:43] [SPEAKER_01]: so in my 50s

[00:20:45] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't have a lesson from my 50s

[00:20:47] [SPEAKER_01]: but this just came to me yesterday

[00:20:49] [SPEAKER_01]: about life

[00:20:51] [SPEAKER_01]: so this is like the

[00:20:53] [SPEAKER_01]: overall lesson is

[00:20:55] [SPEAKER_01]: everyone's got their own hard

[00:20:56] [SPEAKER_01]: life is hard, having a job is hard

[00:20:58] [SPEAKER_01]: owning a business is hard

[00:21:00] [SPEAKER_01]: but lemonade is still sweet

[00:21:02] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to say when you get lemons

[00:21:04] [SPEAKER_01]: make lemonade, no it's lemonade is still sweet

[00:21:07] [SPEAKER_01]: life is still sweet

[00:21:08] [SPEAKER_01]: there's so much good opportunity

[00:21:10] [SPEAKER_01]: it's just

[00:21:11] [SPEAKER_01]: the hard things are the things that make you better

[00:21:14] [SPEAKER_01]: and help you grow

[00:21:15] [SPEAKER_01]: and help you become

[00:21:17] [SPEAKER_01]: someone who helps other people

[00:21:20] [SPEAKER_01]: because if you're in this just to help yourself

[00:21:22] [SPEAKER_01]: like

[00:21:23] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know

[00:21:24] [SPEAKER_01]: there's a

[00:21:25] [SPEAKER_01]: I can't remember the Hebrew word for it

[00:21:27] [SPEAKER_01]: but the whole idea around Sadaka

[00:21:29] [SPEAKER_01]: which is not charity

[00:21:31] [SPEAKER_01]: but giving it's like leaving the world a better place

[00:21:34] [SPEAKER_01]: I should remember this

[00:21:35] [SPEAKER_01]: but the whole idea is

[00:21:37] [SPEAKER_01]: someone asked me the other day

[00:21:39] [SPEAKER_01]: what's your purpose in life

[00:21:40] [SPEAKER_01]: to leave a better path behind me

[00:21:44] [SPEAKER_01]: than the one that I went down

[00:21:46] [SPEAKER_01]: can I help my kids

[00:21:49] [SPEAKER_01]: get through life in a better way

[00:21:50] [SPEAKER_01]: not give them money but teach them how to

[00:21:52] [SPEAKER_01]: teach them how to make money

[00:21:54] [SPEAKER_01]: teach them how to build a career and a job that they

[00:21:56] [SPEAKER_01]: love, give them the things that I didn't

[00:21:58] [SPEAKER_01]: have can I do that for people

[00:22:00] [SPEAKER_01]: in my profession

[00:22:02] [SPEAKER_01]: so what I'm trying to do is leave the world a better place

[00:22:04] [SPEAKER_01]: like walk by some trash

[00:22:06] [SPEAKER_01]: occasionally I'll pick it up

[00:22:08] [SPEAKER_01]: you know like

[00:22:09] [SPEAKER_01]: that's the deal and so I think that

[00:22:13] [SPEAKER_01]: that's for me

[00:22:13] [SPEAKER_01]: that's what this is about

[00:22:15] [SPEAKER_01]: having fun, exploring, learning

[00:22:18] [SPEAKER_01]: leaving it a better place for the next person

[00:22:20] [SPEAKER_01]: helping the next person along so they can get through it

[00:22:22] [SPEAKER_01]: faster or more

[00:22:25] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to say better

[00:22:27] [SPEAKER_01]: they can get through it

[00:22:28] [SPEAKER_01]: in a way that they can

[00:22:30] [SPEAKER_01]: come behind me and take what I did

[00:22:32] [SPEAKER_01]: and make it even better

[00:22:33] [SPEAKER_01]: make it better for you, make it better for the next person

[00:22:36] [SPEAKER_01]: I think that's the birthday message

[00:22:38] [SPEAKER_01]: hey it's my birthday

[00:22:40] [SPEAKER_01]: you know what

[00:22:43] [SPEAKER_01]: if you want to do anything

[00:22:44] [SPEAKER_01]: make a donation

[00:22:45] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't need presents

[00:22:47] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't need birthday wishes

[00:22:49] [SPEAKER_01]: but if you want to do something

[00:22:51] [SPEAKER_01]: make a donation, I don't care where

[00:22:54] [SPEAKER_01]: but

[00:22:55] [SPEAKER_01]: I think the world needs more donations as well

[00:22:57] [SPEAKER_01]: so for my birthday party

[00:23:00] [SPEAKER_01]: we have a roller skating jam

[00:23:01] [SPEAKER_01]: and just had birthday donations

[00:23:04] [SPEAKER_01]: we've got this

[00:23:05] [SPEAKER_01]: charity here called the

[00:23:07] [SPEAKER_01]: Interactive Resource Center

[00:23:08] [SPEAKER_01]: they provide resources, clothes

[00:23:11] [SPEAKER_01]: job training, computers, internet

[00:23:13] [SPEAKER_01]: things like that for people that are homeless

[00:23:15] [SPEAKER_01]: or close to being homeless

[00:23:19] [SPEAKER_01]: and

[00:23:19] [SPEAKER_01]: so that's where we donate

[00:23:22] [SPEAKER_01]: that's where I donate money

[00:23:24] [SPEAKER_01]: pick one of your choice

[00:23:26] [SPEAKER_01]: and don't donate

[00:23:27] [SPEAKER_01]: don't do it for me, do it for the people in your community

[00:23:30] [SPEAKER_01]: and I'll see you on the next show

[00:23:31] [SPEAKER_01]: peace out

[00:23:50] [SPEAKER_01]: on this call we'll help you get clear on your goals

[00:23:54] [SPEAKER_01]: identify the obstacles in your way

[00:23:56] [SPEAKER_01]: uncover the hidden opportunities in your business

[00:23:58] [SPEAKER_01]: and then we'll map out a three step action plan

[00:24:01] [SPEAKER_01]: so that you have more fun

[00:24:02] [SPEAKER_01]: help even more people

[00:24:03] [SPEAKER_01]: make even more money much quicker

[00:24:05] [SPEAKER_01]: and you'll leave the session

[00:24:06] [SPEAKER_01]: feeling clear, confident and excited about taking your physical therapy business to the next level

[00:24:11] [SPEAKER_01]: sound good?

[00:24:12] [SPEAKER_01]: if that's a yes

[00:24:12] [SPEAKER_01]: just DM me the word call

[00:24:14] [SPEAKER_01]: over on instagram

[00:24:15] [SPEAKER_01]: and I'll see you on the next show

[00:24:15] [SPEAKER_01]: at Aaron LeBauer

[00:24:16] [SPEAKER_01]: and I'll get back to you with all the details

[00:24:18] [SPEAKER_01]: thanks so much and we'll see you next week on the show
