[00:01:36] [SPEAKER_00]: the third one I'll tell you as well. Number one mistake, marketing physicians. I'm going to tell

[00:01:42] [SPEAKER_00]: you number two mistake, not charging enough. And number three is not having a coach or someone who

[00:01:49] [SPEAKER_00]: what they were doing. And I'm going to tell you like that wasn't really an option in 2009. There

[00:01:56] [SPEAKER_00]: was no one else out there coaching people on how to build a physical therapy cash practice. So it

[00:02:01] [SPEAKER_00]: wasn't like I made that mistake, I just didn't have it. I was missing it. So if I had it, I could

[00:02:06] [SPEAKER_00]: have avoided a lot of these things. But let me tell you about this a little bit. So if you don't

[00:02:11] [SPEAKER_00]: know much about me, my name is Aaron LaBauer or Dr. Aaron LaBauer. I live in Greensboro, North Carolina.

[00:02:16] [SPEAKER_00]: I was born in 1973. So yeah, I'm 50 years old. I've been treating patients since 1999 when I

[00:02:24] [SPEAKER_00]: graduated massage school and I was making $75 for a massage in 1999. 75 bucks. And I'm going to say

[00:02:32] [SPEAKER_00]: this partly there's a lot of PTs these days right now charging 75 bucks for PT or less. And I was

[00:02:39] [SPEAKER_00]: doing that 25 years ago. So let me get back to that one. So number one, I started a massage

[00:02:48] [SPEAKER_00]: therapy practice in 1999. I went to and then later on, I moved back to the East Coast from California,

[00:02:57] [SPEAKER_00]: went back to Elon and got a doctor in physical therapy degree. And on that first clinical

[00:03:01] [SPEAKER_00]: rotation is when I saw 43 patients in one day. And I said I had to start my own cash practice.

[00:03:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Along the way, it was like, okay, you're starting a cash practice. I went through the

[00:03:13] [SPEAKER_00]: APTA's website, the PPS, I bought the $50 book on how to start a private practice. And

[00:03:17] [SPEAKER_00]: there was nothing in it that related me. It was like write up a business plan, get a loan,

[00:03:22] [SPEAKER_00]: you know, credential yourself with insurance companies and Medicare and all this stuff.

[00:03:25] [SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, I'm not doing any of those things. I've already kind of, you know, got a bootstrap

[00:03:30] [SPEAKER_00]: business up and running. I mean, I had a six month clinical rotation and my business basically died,

[00:03:36] [SPEAKER_00]: you know, my third year. I rebuilt it. I had a few patients come back doing massage while I was

[00:03:43] [SPEAKER_00]: waiting for my license, but I started a cash practice with a wife who was seven months pregnant.

[00:03:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, my father's a physician, he's retired and my uncle's and, you know, number one thing was go

[00:03:56] [SPEAKER_00]: market to physicians. So I go market to physicians, you know, to get referrals. And I was basically

[00:04:01] [SPEAKER_00]: relying on other people to send me patients. And while I had introductions, and I was able to get

[00:04:09] [SPEAKER_00]: introductions, no one referred me patients because I didn't take insurance. You know, like,

[00:04:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Aaron, we'd only send you more patients if you only took their insurance. Well, they don't

[00:04:20] [SPEAKER_00]: understand what physical therapy is. Everyone thinks it's, you know, the same. It's a modality,

[00:04:24] [SPEAKER_00]: like especially other healthcare providers, physicians with God complexes, chiropractors,

[00:04:29] [SPEAKER_00]: you know, the public, they think it's just hot packs, leg lifts and ultrasound or post surgical

[00:04:34] [SPEAKER_00]: rehab. And what we specialize in is something very different. Lots of manual therapy, hands on body

[00:04:40] [SPEAKER_00]: work, taking people who are good enough to great. We help people move from seeing practitioner,

[00:04:49] [SPEAKER_00]: practitioner and struggling with chronic pain for years to, you know, starting to make progress

[00:04:53] [SPEAKER_00]: because we look at the whole body, we look at the whole system. And we empower our patients to

[00:04:59] [SPEAKER_00]: treat themselves versus just do a modality or do a treatment to them. Because I'm not incentivized

[00:05:08] [SPEAKER_00]: to make money off of doing something to people, I can educate them, I can get them

[00:05:14] [SPEAKER_00]: empowered in position to take care of themselves. So I'm marketing physicians and no one's coming in.

[00:05:18] [SPEAKER_00]: And I even went so far as to spend a thousand bucks creating referral pads, eight by 11. I

[00:05:25] [SPEAKER_00]: would show them to you, but you don't need to go make these things. And you'll have the name and

[00:05:30] [SPEAKER_00]: the problem and what do they need, eval and treat and manual therapy and all these things for

[00:05:35] [SPEAKER_00]: physicians to pick. But yet I'm a doctor, it's my choice what patient treatments get. Well, I would

[00:05:43] [SPEAKER_00]: hand deliver evaluation notes. I spent about 30 minutes writing up an evaluation note

[00:05:48] [SPEAKER_00]: for all the providers and even their chiropractors. And I would hand deliver it and I hand deliver

[00:05:54] [SPEAKER_00]: their prescription pads with the note in an envelope. I actually had one chiropractor,

[00:06:00] [SPEAKER_00]: he was like, wow, no one's ever done that to me. And he sent me probably seven or eight people

[00:06:04] [SPEAKER_00]: that first summer that I was working. And that really made a big difference. And then he ended

[00:06:09] [SPEAKER_00]: up hiring someone else and didn't send me a referral. So he sent me a lot of people who

[00:06:12] [SPEAKER_00]: need more like soft tissue work and more exercise type of stuff, which was great. And I had one,

[00:06:19] [SPEAKER_00]: maybe two physicians send me people, but not really. And it wasn't the way I expected. And

[00:06:24] [SPEAKER_00]: those are the caveat. And I think I saw one of these referral pad things come back out of like

[00:06:30] [SPEAKER_00]: a thousand. So marketing physicians, it wasn't really the thing to do. Also, you know, the

[00:06:37] [SPEAKER_00]: office expected you to buy lunch for 60 people, which is $5,000. I'm like, I'm not Merck Pfizer.

[00:06:45] [SPEAKER_00]: So that didn't really work. And I realized I had to market directly to patients,

[00:06:50] [SPEAKER_00]: had to go out and learn direct response marketing. I had to go learn and learn from other professions

[00:06:56] [SPEAKER_00]: like fitness and real estate and adapt it to physical therapy. And that's what I've done.

[00:07:01] [SPEAKER_00]: And in that way, I've taught this to people through our CashBD blueprint program

[00:07:06] [SPEAKER_00]: in our CashBD Academy and Platinum Mastermind. So that now people, what took me, you know,

[00:07:12] [SPEAKER_00]: I think it took me probably three years to hit six figures, five years to hit 15K in a month.

[00:07:18] [SPEAKER_00]: And now our members are doing, you know, I've had people do 7,000 their first month,

[00:07:23] [SPEAKER_00]: 15,000 their third month, 20,000 in month number nine, 18,000, you know, in month number nine,

[00:07:30] [SPEAKER_00]: 30,000 in the first year. I even, one of our Platinum Mastermind members, I was talking to

[00:07:35] [SPEAKER_00]: yesterday from Ohio, Andy Trem and he's like, yeah, this is gonna be my best month. And he's

[00:07:40] [SPEAKER_00]: like, I'm on track to do about 18K or he's already done 18K. And I was like, how long ago did you

[00:07:45] [SPEAKER_00]: start your business? Like nine months ago. That's fucking dope, right? He's not the only one.

[00:07:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Just mistaken, but number two is not charging enough. Right? And if you're undercharging,

[00:07:55] [SPEAKER_00]: you'll never hit a realistic goal. And you're probably undercharging because

[00:08:00] [SPEAKER_00]: you've been conditioned that you're not valued, that you're not valuable. You've been conditioned

[00:08:05] [SPEAKER_00]: as an employee or as a physical therapist that there's no value more than the co-pay.

[00:08:10] [SPEAKER_00]: And there's no way that you can even foresee making six figures, much less, you know, 20K

[00:08:15] [SPEAKER_00]: in a month if you're only charging $75. This wasn't just a few years ago. I've heard from

[00:08:20] [SPEAKER_00]: people recently that that's all they're charging, or they're only charging that if they're doing,

[00:08:24] [SPEAKER_00]: you know, training Pilates, massage, body work, et cetera. They're charging less and or that much

[00:08:30] [SPEAKER_00]: where people are going out and doing, Hey, I'll do dry needling $25 a muscle. And when you do that,

[00:08:37] [SPEAKER_00]: and the CrossFit athletes like, yeah, work, put it here, put it there, put it there. And you're

[00:08:42] [SPEAKER_00]: charging per muscle. Now you're letting them direct treatment and you're no longer acting as

[00:08:45] [SPEAKER_00]: a doctor. You're acting as a technician. And, you know, we've been trained to do that, but we can't

[00:08:51] [SPEAKER_00]: do that. And there's no way you're going to be able to grow your business. I'm charging so little,

[00:08:58] [SPEAKER_00]: you know, it's a belief that people won't pay and they will pay. So not charging enough was

[00:09:03] [SPEAKER_00]: mistake number two, because if I look back at Derek Nielsen, who now works with me, helping

[00:09:11] [SPEAKER_00]: build out PT marketing machine accounts for our clients and doing some coaching for cash PT academy.

[00:09:18] [SPEAKER_00]: He was the first cash PT resident. And he worked with me for a year. We did a clinical and business

[00:09:24] [SPEAKER_00]: mentorship, and then he moved to Durham, North Carolina. We didn't know a single person there.

[00:09:28] [SPEAKER_00]: He moved there because his girlfriend was going enrolling at I think Chapel Hill to become a nurse

[00:09:32] [SPEAKER_00]: practitioner. He opened up a clinic there and he did 96,000, you know, $287 his first year. And the

[00:09:40] [SPEAKER_00]: reason he did not hit six figures is because he wasn't charging enough because he left like at

[00:09:45] [SPEAKER_00]: that time after hiring Derek for the year, I realized I had 150 bucks a visit. I wasn't charging

[00:09:50] [SPEAKER_00]: enough to be able to afford a full-time PT. And Derek came and part of the agreement as the

[00:09:56] [SPEAKER_00]: resident was he would take a reduced salary, like highly reduced salary. I think I paid him,

[00:10:00] [SPEAKER_00]: you know, $48,000 for the year or something like that. He essentially paid me $40,000 to learn all

[00:10:08] [SPEAKER_00]: this. And he went out and he started a brand new practice. He did, I think he still did like

[00:10:13] [SPEAKER_00]: $10,000 his first eight weeks. He, his eighth month, he did 15, he did a $15,000 a month his

[00:10:21] [SPEAKER_00]: eighth month. And that took me five years to do that. And when we were looking at that, we looked

[00:10:27] [SPEAKER_00]: and I looked back and said, hey, you know, in those first five, since I wasn't charging enough,

[00:10:32] [SPEAKER_00]: what was I missing out on? And it was over a million dollars in revenue. Derek's like, no,

[00:10:36] [SPEAKER_00]: don't calculate this. Like, no, I want to. And I lost over a million dollars in revenue by not

[00:10:41] [SPEAKER_00]: charging enough because I didn't have anyone saying, this is what you should be charging.

[00:10:46] [SPEAKER_00]: And this is how you're going to handle the objections of people saying, you don't take

[00:10:49] [SPEAKER_00]: my insurance and it costs too much. And this is how you're going to enroll people in a plan of care

[00:10:53] [SPEAKER_00]: because not everyone's your customer, but certain people are. And for the right person with the

[00:10:58] [SPEAKER_00]: right conversation, asking the right questions, they will pay whatever it takes to get the result

[00:11:03] [SPEAKER_00]: because they know that you're the one that can help them. And that's why I've had thousands of

[00:11:08] [SPEAKER_00]: people come through my programs, launch practices, making six figures and many,

[00:11:13] [SPEAKER_00]: many making seven figures. There's so many people that enrolled in our CashBT blueprint

[00:11:17] [SPEAKER_00]: program early on there now own clinics that have multiple therapists, multiple locations,

[00:11:22] [SPEAKER_00]: and doing over seven figures. Seven figures isn't a zero to, you know, zero to seven figures in one

[00:11:29] [SPEAKER_00]: year kind of thing. It's a long game, but not charging enough was also one of the big mistakes,

[00:11:34] [SPEAKER_00]: but I didn't know better. I mean, I thought I should be charging more, but so many people told

[00:11:38] [SPEAKER_00]: me no one's going to pay more than their co-pay for PT, just like my clinical instructor that

[00:11:43] [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't really have that belief. And so mistake number three wasn't really my mistake. I didn't

[00:11:48] [SPEAKER_00]: have a coach or a mentor or there was no one available who knew or had, you know, who, who

[00:11:56] [SPEAKER_00]: there are people available that had experience running a cash practice, but they weren't helping

[00:12:02] [SPEAKER_00]: others. They weren't coaching, they weren't helping me set rates and enroll people. And I just didn't

[00:12:07] [SPEAKER_00]: have anyone. So now that's available and look, there's not only me out there, but I've been doing

[00:12:12] [SPEAKER_00]: this forever a decade for 12 years since I've been coaching people since 2012, maybe even a little

[00:12:19] [SPEAKER_00]: earlier. I can't even remember. I know I sold my first online download in 2013 and I launched the

[00:12:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Cash PT Blueprint in 2014. And how we got there was by 2014, you know, I had helped. There's some,

[00:12:38] [SPEAKER_00]: there are people out there that you know, that are like people in PT who have cash practices,

[00:12:46] [SPEAKER_00]: who have come through my programs or had personal help from me even before I was coaching people.

[00:12:51] [SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's like, Hey Aaron, can you help me with this? I'll be like, yeah. There are people

[00:12:54] [SPEAKER_00]: out there. If I listed all their names, you'd know them. And there's some people out there

[00:12:57] [SPEAKER_00]: who've copied my stuff and said it's theirs or created similar programs based on mine or come

[00:13:01] [SPEAKER_00]: through my programs, et cetera. You know, so, but I'm not the only one. And I've put 1,583 people

[00:13:10] [SPEAKER_00]: and counting through our Cash PT Blueprint program. I've helped hundreds of people in our

[00:13:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Platinum Mastermind and I've sold over 7,850 copies of my book. So it's out there. And if

[00:13:21] [SPEAKER_00]: you're like, well, I don't know who to trust. Let me see if I can help you because my only goal here

[00:14:23] [SPEAKER_00]: up with the Cash PT Toolkit and I started selling that. I think the first thing I sold was a,

[00:14:28] [SPEAKER_00]: an ebook on creating a blog and building a website for physical therapists.

[00:14:32] [SPEAKER_00]: And then I sold the Cash PT Toolkit and those were in 2013. And I knew,

[00:14:37] [SPEAKER_00]: I knew these, these were bonuses for something bigger, but I didn't want to write a book.

[00:14:41] [SPEAKER_00]: And there was like a lot of pressure on my time. And I was like, well, you know what?

[00:14:46] [SPEAKER_00]: I think I need to create a course. Cause I'm better at speaking and talking and presenting.

[00:14:50] [SPEAKER_00]: And I'd already presented in front of a bunch of groups at CSM, PPS, WebPTs event, clinician,

[00:14:56] [SPEAKER_00]: clinician. I'd been to the Florida private practice section and a couple other places.

[00:15:01] [SPEAKER_00]: I'd done, you know, webinars for APTA, et cetera. I was like, I'm going to create a course.

[00:15:05] [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't really know how to go about doing it. And I had met this other guy, John Schumacher,

[00:15:11] [SPEAKER_00]: who was a physical therapist who had like hundreds of thousands of views from his flip phone.

[00:15:17] [SPEAKER_00]: And, and what I did was I was telling him, I was like, Hey, I'm sitting on my, in the garage.

[00:15:23] [SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, Hey, you know, John, I found these other guys. They're going to help me

[00:15:26] [SPEAKER_00]: launch a course, but they want like $20,000. I was like, that's crazy. I was like, I don't

[00:15:30] [SPEAKER_00]: even know if people are going to buy this or other people want to start. How many people,

[00:15:34] [SPEAKER_00]: other people want to start a cash practice? And he's sitting there going, Aaron,

[00:15:36] [SPEAKER_00]: you've got a six figure business. It's like, no way. No, I don't. And he was like, yes, you do.

[00:15:42] [SPEAKER_00]: He's like, let me hear it for, you know, I don't know. I think I paid him 5,000 bucks. He's like,

[00:15:46] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna help you. I'll give you, I'll help you with the webinars. I'll help you with a sales

[00:15:50] [SPEAKER_00]: page and we'll, I'll give you the sales sequence, et cetera. Just about 10 years ago, exactly.

[00:15:55] [SPEAKER_00]: I started promoting and launching the cash PD blueprint. I built a sales page, but guess what?

[00:16:00] [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't even have the modules built. I just had it outlined. I knew what the bonuses were

[00:16:05] [SPEAKER_00]: and I had the price and the price went up. So there's the first weekend price went up.

[00:16:11] [SPEAKER_00]: So it started at one 97 and it was going to go up at midnight on Sunday. And everyone after that

[00:16:16] [SPEAKER_00]: price is going to go up and had 25 people enrolled in five days and made $5,000. And I was like,

[00:16:21] [SPEAKER_00]: shoot, I'm going to go build this course. And they built the course out over the next eight weeks.

[00:16:25] [SPEAKER_00]: And I think then it was two 97 to get into the course until the course was done. And it was 497.

[00:16:31] [SPEAKER_00]: And then over time it went to nine 97. I enrolled in the Lewis house program and I sold it for

[00:16:37] [SPEAKER_00]: $2,000 on a webinar. And I think I made, uh, I sold, I sell, um,

[00:16:44] [SPEAKER_00]: 18 of them one time. That was one of the biggest webinars back in 20, uh,

[00:16:49] [SPEAKER_00]: 17 or something that when I could get 500 people on a webinar, webinars are kind of new. Um,

[00:16:55] [SPEAKER_00]: it's amazing. I've sold this course for as much as, uh, 20, $2,497 right off my website.

[00:17:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Um, and even in the last 12 months, um, because it's that valuable because all you got to do

[00:17:06] [SPEAKER_00]: is utilize one thing in there and you go get three people to pay you a thousand bucks a piece

[00:17:12] [SPEAKER_00]: for a 10 visit plan of care that's charging a hundred dollars a visit. And the thing is paid

[00:17:16] [SPEAKER_00]: for, I started this because it was going to save me time. Um, and then it, you know, I mean, I'd

[00:17:23] [SPEAKER_00]: done a ton of things to do. Uh, and I taught a ton of stuff in here. I taught exactly what we did.

[00:17:28] [SPEAKER_00]: And the main thing it does is it gives you an overview of what kind of practice you can build,

[00:17:32] [SPEAKER_00]: whether it's a brick and mortar, mobile, a telehealth, you want to practice in a clinic,

[00:17:37] [SPEAKER_00]: in a gym, you want to transition from one to the next. It gives you the step-by-step process of

[00:17:41] [SPEAKER_00]: exactly what to do to create the business entity, whether it's S-Corp sole proprietorship, et cetera,

[00:17:46] [SPEAKER_00]: maintain your compliance with HIPAA, Medicare, you know, your state. It helps you build a really

[00:17:50] [SPEAKER_00]: simple EMR. It helps you build low cost website. And the main thing is designed to get your

[00:17:55] [SPEAKER_00]: business off the ground. So you're legal to treat patients, focus on getting your first five people

[00:18:00] [SPEAKER_00]: to come in and pay you money and really get you to $5,000 in 30 days. And, um, that's the main

[00:18:07] [SPEAKER_00]: thing that that's the main goal. And you can use this and just kind of wrench and repeat and be

[00:18:10] [SPEAKER_00]: like, dude, that thing was great. And then if you want some more help or you want to grow faster,

[00:18:14] [SPEAKER_00]: you know, you want a personalized game plan, then, um, we can talk about what does it look
