I had been a treating Speech Language Pathologist for over 25 years. I had treated or taught in all settings other than acute care. I was burned out. I changed careers and it just didn't work out for me. I am a therapist at heart and missed the relationships I had formed in my previous SLP positions. A friend and COO of a local school district asked me to contract with them for an SLP on bereavement leave and another on medical leave. Jumping in with both feet, I did both full time positions. Whew!

As the contract was ending, I was undecided what I wanted to do. The COO I mentioned, encouraged me to start a contract business. I did! During the first 6 months of contracting, I helped another friend to add speech therapy. She encouraged me to start a private practice. Nine months later, and three months before Covid in December 2019, the first clinic opened - The SpOT Clinic just outside of Huntsville, AL. In June 2021, we opened the second clinic in Gulf Shores, AL. The third clinic opened in June 2022. This was a far cry from being burned out and changing careers, but with the support of my family and staff, we grew the company to what it is today - 3 clinics and 66 staff members and plans to open 2 more in 2025.

I was able to connect with other clinic owners who helped me know how to kickstart my business and how to evolve my business. I am thankful for those who coached and supported me through the process. I have an amazing executive team who I have trained to think as I do and are fully capable of running my company in my absence. I trust them to do just that!

I have the work/life balance I have dreamed of for 30+ years. Don't get me wrong, it was HARD work, but it is paying off and it can for you too! I have been in your shoes.
