Bang for buck isometrics are the easiest and fastest way to modulate pain with almost any technique you are using to treat a patient. Too much tone for needling? Contract the muscle quickly and with post isometric relaxation will have decreased tone (you probably won’t need to needle anymore🤣). Pain during the motion or at end range? Try light resistance toward the pain and load the motion again. Pain during closed kinetic chain exercise? Try a quick isometric contraction just short of the painful arc and then light resistance in and out of the arc. While I have many theories as to why they work so well - it’s not muscle energy technique, nothing magical about it. For whatever reason, they modulate pain, are very easy to replicate by the patient and often provide instant relief. Turn those yellow lights into green lights! Hope this helps!
