Manual Therapy gets a lot of flack, rightfully so, for making patients think there is a quick fix to their issues. I often tell patients, the quicker the fix, the more rapidly it will wear off. Any rapid improvement is a change in perception of threat, and tone, but not mechanical changes. The nervous system is easily tricked, but not easily convinced. Manual therapy for me, and in this case IASTM, is to make the patient's cervical retraction and SB with overpressure as pain free as possible. This will make him more likely to dose at an effective frequency and intensity to continue treatment effects away from the clinic. Hope this helps! Are you a patient in need of my help?
