😎Quadruped Hip Drop - Great Alternative to a Prone Press Up😎
Prone Press Ups are great for low back pain, radiating sciatic complaints and many lower quarter complaints. Sometimes, patients are afraid to do it, whether it was from a bad experience, misconceptions, or bad information from another provider. One of my favorite alternatives is a quadruped hip drop.
🔵start on all fours, and do light lumbar flexion/extension (cat-camel) to prime the extension movement
🔵then have them lock their elbows and slowly and controlled drop their hips down to the table
🔵they can control the extension and gradually make to end range
🔵at end range they should fully relax the abdomen, extend the head/neck back and exhale fully to get to end range
🔵by changing the pattern, the perception of threat from a prone press up often isn't felt
🔵they can then load up this 10 times hourly or as needed
Progress to repeated extension in standing so it's more practical to do it WB periodically throughout the day. Hope this helps!
