MMT Q&A: Can a Patient with Unilateral TMJ Pain Have 2 Dysfunctional Sides?

Question from a blog reader:

I have a patient that when opening 1) jaw shoots over to the left and then back to the center at the end range 2) pain on the left 3) clicking on the right

My questions:
1) what is the side of dysfunction? Can she have 2?
2) what would you address 1st- soft tissue restriction or motor control? I did both with some isometrics at midrange to keep tracking in the center (Kinda making this stuff up)- am I on target?

THANKS!
