The Prone Press Up is very effective for centralization of radiating complaints and to relieve low back pain. It often improves toe touch as well. However, a patient has to be able to dose highly enough and get to end range to get rapid relief. If it hurts, pinches, or is limited, they won't get the desired results or be willing to dose repeatedly. Using an extension isometric pattern a few times on each contralateral upper and lower limb is a quick and easy strategy to improve motion and decrease feelings of compression or pinching at end range. Try it! You will be surprised how well it works. It's also great for those who are too sensitized locally in the lumbar area for traditional manual therapy and soft tissue techniques.
