Improve Frozen Shoulder Mobility Without Stretching

Do you aggressively stretch frozen shoulders? It's like beating a dead horse, only the horse is alive and it hurts a lot, but you'll still get no where fast 🤣

The best thing we can do are modulatory techniques to improve pain and reduce perception of threat/stretch so the patient can move regularly. After slacking the joint and muscles doing the opposite of your standard distraction, I like to show patients how to lightly circumduct their humeral head in the glenoid without scapular compensation. This along with lots of isometrics seems to manage well.

I also posted earlier that these conditions often come with other health issues so there are other educational/lifestyle pieces to talk about as well.

Next time you see a painful or very limited frozen shoulder try slacking it for minute then recheck motion and lmk how it works for you. It's not magic but you'll often gain a small amount of motion, but it will often feel much better, giving them the confidence to move/load again.
