About Rani:
Rani is a Research Fellow in Philosophy and founder of NMBU CAPS - Centre for Applied Philosophy of Science, where we work to engage students and staff in critical reflections on the philosophical foundations of science. Her specialization is causation, probability, risk, and complexity, and I'm particularly interested in the relationship between philosophy and science.
She first came to NMBU to lead the āCausation in Scienceā FRIPRO research project from 2011-2014, followed by the CauseHealth FRIPRO project, āCausation,Complexity, and Evidence in Health Sciencesā, from 2015-2019. Together with Dr Elena Rocca, she led āCauseHealth Risk and Safetyā from 2019-2021, funded by WHO Uppsala Monitoring Centre. She is a co-author of Getting Causes from Powers (Oxford University Press 2011), Causation ā A Very Short Introduction (OUP 2013), Causation in Science and the Methods of Scientific Discovery (OUP 2018), What Tends to Be (Routledge 2020) and Causality, Complexity and Evidence for the Unique Patient (Springer 2020).
She served as member of the Norwegian National Research Ethics Committees since 2017, and the NMBU Ethics Committee since 2014. She has course responsible for MINA300 and MINA301 Interdisciplinarity and Expert Disagreement on Sustainability' and PHI102 Examen Philosophicum (English).
