Finding the most painful "Hard End Feel" and mashing away is pretty much what we are taught in traditional manual therapy. Since you cannot be specific, and causing pain to improve mobility and decrease pain does not really make sense, why not just do a general and simple mobilization and get the same results. The effects (and technique) are non-specific as well as neurophysiologic for ALL techniques. No, your technique "x" is not excluded from that description.
