EP110: “3 BIG Mistakes PTs Make With Acute Injuries” | Dr. Chris Garcia

“Verbal and vague”…this is the way most PTs outline care to patients with acute injuries. Instead, patients should have a full outline of care written down with expected week-by-week healing timelines so they have a plan. However, managing patient care with the “verbal and vague” framework delays healing, decreases patient buy-in, and leads to poor outcomes.

This is no different than a patient going to an urgent care and sent home to rest for 4-6 weeks with crutches and anti-inflammatories without a plan. Both are very similar scenarios.

In this episode, I share the 3 mistakes physical therapists should avoid when managing injuries in the early healing phases. If you’re a sports PT and want to make sure you’re maximizing patient outcomes…especially with acute injuries, you need to tune into this episode. Enjoy!
